During December our local land mark went missing, no normal landmark was a beautiful carters siren which stood proudly on its pole for nearly 80s, after the war it saw life again during the cold war era.
Always believing someday the council would have it restored and used perhaps for remembrance day etc. Just wasn't to be, so I searched and searched for nearby test days this fuel depot in Essex finally came to my attention, so me and the lad took a drive to hear it,
A worker spotted us and came over had a chat for quite sometime about all things siren related and then finally the sound of past came alive, ok maybe not for the locals as they hear it still in 2019 for completely different reasons, essentially the same meaning a warning to people in the depot that a potential hazard is unfolding and action is required and safety procedures need to be followed
