Visiting a siren on test day "Essex" 3/1/19 "air raid, cold war sound"

During December our local land mark went missing, no normal landmark was a beautiful carters siren which stood proudly on its pole for nearly 80s, after the war it saw life again during the cold war era.
Always believing someday the council would have it restored and used perhaps for remembrance day etc. Just wasn't to be, so I searched and searched for nearby test days this fuel depot in Essex finally came to my attention, so me and the lad took a drive to hear it,
A worker spotted us and came over had a chat for quite sometime about all things siren related and then finally the sound of past came alive, ok maybe not for the locals as they hear it still in 2019 for completely different reasons, essentially the same meaning a warning to people in the depot that a potential hazard is unfolding and action is required and safety procedures need to be followed
Anyway I hope you like the video, If you liked the clip smash the thumbs up button. Add a comment. and subscribe as more content of our fun in and round the south of England is added all the time

There’s a few left for warning sounds with in certain industry’s and flood warning alerts. There are some still standing from the Cold War warning system. @mintysgt
@mintysgt 5 лет назад
Well the cold war era is now a thing of the past they say And were not at war etc, In honest you need to check the Broadmoor siren story out and not just exclusive to Broadmoor. Story short we live in a time if disaster was imminent they have decided doing away with these things is best and texting and social media is more efficient, yh because while we sleep were clearing checking social media somehow and most people don't even hear phones in the night let alone a bleep of text. I'm afraid it comes down to penny pinching at the end of the day
@The_Last_Post
@The_Last_Post 5 лет назад
Funny you should mention Broadmoor, I’ve heard those sirens go off in the past. A friend of mine is a postman who delivers over that way. They were tested every Monday at 10am but have only this year (2019) fallen silent. Think there’s a guy and his son on here who recorded them a few years back, quite distinctive having a two-tone sound, it gets your attention pretty quickly. Unlike this flimsy, nondescript social media and texting rubbish. There’s something very real about hearing a Carter siren, it’s almost in our DNA to act when we hear it, these should still be around to this day IMO. I would really like to know if social media and a text really is the way we’ll be informed of impending doom? Surely it can’t be, can it?
@mintysgt
@mintysgt 5 лет назад
TheLastPost its all on the website mate. And yes in flood areas where they were used. They removed them in favour of twitter and text. Where broadmoor is concerned. Ok years since someone escaped. But moving site and with the Unkown in store ie no knowledge if escape is possible. As let’s be fair until people try they can’t say security is better. It will only take 1 escape and someone killed in the process of this poor new system before questions are asked. I know what I think works better loud sound that you can’t avoid or a discreet warning system that people can blissfully carry on like nothing is wrong
@ShottaIbby
@ShottaIbby 5 лет назад
Judging by the current state of the UK, these Carter Air Raid sirens should still be up, from an economic perspective, anything could happen with all the politics and Brexit going on... At least we'd have a chance to brace for impact, if a country were to launch an attack(s) on the UK whilst our economy is in turmoil... Texting and Twitter really isn't the best way, these sirens just have a much more natural way of alerting everyone, and the sound of them alone is haunting.
@mintysgt
@mintysgt 5 лет назад
Well a loud sound doesn't discriminate anyone who is not sat on social media and has a life etc that's for sure, but hey ho as long as the government are safe that's all that counts right lol

@@mintysgt The 2T22/3T22 would actually be a higher pitch. Those and Carter's have the same 10/12 port ratio but since we use 60hz power, the standard motor speed is 3450rpm while in places where the standard is 50hz like in England, the standard motor speed is 2880rpm. As a result of this, British 10/12 sirens are naturally lower pitched than American 10/12 sirens.
