In this video, we take you along with us as we visit Smithsonian National Zoo in our nation's capitol, Washington DC. While we loved seeing all the animals on exhibit, we were there in particular hoping to catch sight of an animal we had never seen before in person, a giant panda. Very few US zoos have giant pandas but this is one of them. We will tell you the details you need to visit the National Zoo and share with you cute animal footage (the most important part of any zoo video). And you'll see whether or not we finally got to see a panda in person.
CORRECTION: In this video, we mention that there are only three zoos in United States that currently have giant pandas. We say that in addition to the Smithsonian Zoo, the other two US zoos with giant pandas are in Atlanta and Nashville. This was only half right. We misspoke on which zoo in Tennessee has giant pandas. The correct location to see giant pandas in Tennessee is Memphis Zoo - not Nashville Zoo. Sorry for the error.

It does cost a lot to rent a panda. Then you have to care for it for ten years before you give it back. It is a difficult business proposition. But we are glad we got to see some pandas in person finally. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Oh man, we have never gone to this zoo. Didn’t realize China owns all the Pandas. Rosalie would love that petting zoo. When we were in DC we went to Georgetown Cupcakes because Addison loved that show. That was Melissa and my first roadtrip there. The lions are one of my favorite exhibits where ever we go. We have been recognized a couple times while vlogging. Anyone ever recognize your voices 😀. Auntie Ann Pretzel is my favorite! Great storytelling as you guys search for a Panda! Zoos amd museums are the hardest to edit because there is just so much to show. Still trying to find the magic sauce on those. Great tour. My oldest is obsessed with sloths.

LOL. We have never had anyone recognize our voices. We have recognized other RU-vidrs and gone up to say "hi" to them. So there are a couple people on this platform who know what we look like. Don't build it up to much in your mind though. It will end up being a let down if you ever do meet us. We just look like normal humans. You are right - zoos and museums are hard to edit because there is so much to show and because they don't really have a story thread other than "Here we are at a museum." But it was nice that we actually had a purpose on this zoo trip to build the video around... seeing a giant panda in person. It wouldn't have been as cool if the pandas were off exhibit that day. @@trvlnthru We were at Zoo Tampa and the whole storyline was seeing the sloth. We had the wrong time, the. We waited, had to find it, and the sloth and zoo keepers were no shows. So I feel you about getting your story across.

It is rare to find a free zoo. This is run by the Smithsonian Institution. They also run a number of museums and galleries in Washington DC. All of them are free and open to the public. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment!

1 million dollars a year for Pandas. That's crazy. We love zoos, and by we I mean me. I'd really love to see this zoo. That tiger was like, Mom, come on. I've played and entertained the crowds enough already. I hope he and his stuffed animal are off with others of his own kind. You went all that way for Pandas and only saw his back. That is just not right. But you did get some great shots of most of the other animals at the zoo. Thank goodness you went back later and finally saw the Pandas.

Smithsonian zoo.. I've never been there and I've gone to several zoos! Looks great guys, plenty of animals to see. My niece and nephew would enjoy this. Our lions also sleep when we go to them lol.. dunno why. Sbarro's look good for snacking. Red pandas look cool, too bad you didn't get to see the full Giant panda.. looks easy enough to get too..

We did get to see a great variety of animals on our visit to the National Zoo. Lions are lazy. LOL. One of the keepers told us they sleep 18 to 20 hours a day. Must be nice. Thanks for watching our video and for leaving a comment!

It was a bit sad to see the little monkey whose only friend is a stuffed animal. All the animals were up to mischief the day we visited. Except for the lions. Lions are lazy. But we had a fun day watching them do their thing.

We enjoyed your trip to the zoo, Jack and Alice. Loved see the mother and child orangutans wrestling around and finally some great shot's of the Giant Panda! Yes, Washington is not a good place to drive around. They have a wonderful Metro system there that we use when visiting. We actually stay at a hotel in Bethesda only a block from the subway. Oh Alice, you wouldn't like riding the tube in London then! The escalators there are even longer than the one you showed here. We've never been to this zoo, and I'm somewhat surprised to see that it actually does not look as nice as our Minnesota Zoo, but I'd still like to visit it sometime. Getting there sounds a little tricky for me. Any idea if they have ECVs for rent?

Yeah, I had my eyes closed all the way up that escalator. I don't know what it is... I didn't have any problems at all with escalators when I was young. But now I just start to feel unbalanced on them. Does the tube in London have elevators? Otherwise, I might stay away from London. I agree that I expected the Smithsonian Zoo to be a little nicer than it was. But it was still a cool experience. They do rent ECVs on a first come, first served basis each day for $30. They have free wheelchairs but that might not work traveling with your kids. Plus, there are so many hills at that zoo, that anyone who has to push someone else in a wheelchair there has quite a workout in front of them. Thanks so much for watching and commenting, Heather!

I never knew pandas were rented from China. That's a cool fact I'm sure few are aware of. I'm always excited about any zoo. The asian elephants are so small. Poor monkey without a companion. Do they have one mate for life? I love the red pandas. Too bad the giant panda was sleeping when you were there. We are in Florida right now and Gary suggested we go to a local zoo down here but not sure we will get an opportunity.

Hope you are having/had a great time in Florida. We still have weather in the 30s and 40s here so I would love to be down in Florida. We do love a good zoo. It was great that this one was free. I am not sure if that type of monkey mates for life. But the keeper did say they are usually social staying with family groups so it was sad to see one all alone even though he did have a stuffed animal. Thanks for watching and commenting!

We are so lucky to have two giant pandas at the Edinburgh Zoo (Scotland) for at least for a couple more years but we've never seen them active! I'm jealous! We didn't go to this zoo when we were in DC....we'll have to rectify that! It looks like a great zoo. Those lions were a mood!! zzzz Looks like good food choices. Love the sloth and the monkeys!

I haven't been to the zoo since I was in 9th grade! None of it looked familiar to me! I guess it is time for another visit. When I went there the pandas were Ling Ling and Hsing Hsing. So cute about the animal friendships. Crystal's grandfather had a miniature horse and its best friend was a tuxedo cat.

I felt sorry for the Marmoset and least they could try and find it a new companion. The Ape at 5:14 didn't look too happy 😁8:34 are they not skunks? Loved the playful Orang-utans.
