I'll tell you what, I used a lot of fancy vitamin C in my life but ascorbic acid was beyond powerful and the first thing it attacked was my cravings, next it went for my lower tummy and reduced it, then it obliterated my inflammation that would send me to sleep after a meal... Listen, ascorbic acid is powerful. Granted, please take other vitamins...but don't be decieved it is extremely powerful. It even stopped my irregular heartbeat that would happen early mornings... I know because I took it.

I think he uses assumptions very wildly. I'm not convinced of several of these premises. For example how does his identification of antioxidants with oxygen deprevation square with the benefits of intravenous sodium ascorbate. And what about Ascorbate: he didn't mention what piece of the clock that might be. And what about the clock: do we know that vitamin c is a kind of clock, or could it be like a magazine cover, or a bullet proof vest? He didn't anchor those assumptions.

The best vitamin C supplement should come from natural sources, such as Camu Camu berries, acerola cherries, Strawberries, etc.. There are companies that now provide the freeze dried form of fruits like camu camu and acerola cherry in powdered forms. These are readily absorbed and utilized by the body because of the presence of other nutrients. I now look for vitamin C that says FROM, and list the source/s, which should be something from nature.

I honestly don't see how anyone middle class and lower can NOT need to supplement in the USA. It's absolutely shocking how little nutrients on in most of our food. Berries are usually prohibitively expensive for the working class, unless you have the space to grow them your self and that's only seasonal. Most people would agree winter is the time you need the most vitamin C, so I don't see how you could likely avoid supplements.

Thank you Dr Ekberg. I absolutely love your videos. Yes I agree with what you say regarding having whole foods from natural sources as the best source of whole nutrients. Please however do for us a video to clarify the mechanism of how high doses of ascorbic acid given by iv shows beneficial results for Cancer, severe burns, viral infections, etc. Also if you could clarify for me further the concept of antioxidants as my understanding of antioxidants is that it binds with and neutralises the by products of oxidation and not absorbs oxygen to stop energy production. Thank you for enlightening me on the above confusing issues.

I'm sorry that the "content" here is in Swedish, but a friend of mine wrote this, and I would like Your comment on it: Vitamin C skapar när doserna är tillräckligt höga, en molekyl som var helt okänd för mig, nämligen AQP.

Hi Dr Stein, great video, and the clock metaphor helped sink it in really well. When u said beware of anything that has been fractioned does that include extracts which have not been standardised ? Eg would a 10:1 extract of something like Rhodiola or ashwagandah still have its ratios of the working components largely in order (assuming it was "best practice" extracting) or would even the best extraction techniques ruin most of the vitamin and co factor clocks ?

@zogzog1063
@zogzog1063 4 года назад
I disagree. It depends on your definition of nutrient. A nutrient is typically in a solid form. It can also be liquid. But why not as a gas? Does the fact that it enters the system as gas (via the nose or mouth) change its status? Does the fact it goes into the lungs rather than the stomach make it a non-nutrient. Actually all elements can exist in all three states. I suppose you could say oxygen is a 'special case' or even an 'only case'. But hey - ok it is a special case, so what? Dude, great question. I am speculating above but I am inclined to accept what the Dr says.

I think he is confused about what oxidation really is... it’s when there there is a positively charged chemical that is ready to take an electron from another chemical and an antioxidant is a chemical that is meant to give its electron before it takes electrons from our own DNA or proteins which could cause mutations and aging. And we don’t get energy by adding oxygen to our food, oxygen comes at the end of cellular respiration in the ETC to stabilize (oxidize) H+ ions by converting them into H2O molecules.

Hey there! When it comes to dosing, it's less about mg and more about bioavailability. If you're taking vitamin C as a supplement, a liposomal formula offers the best absorbency no matter what the dose. There are benefits to megadosing vitamin C (up to 5000mg) but everyone should consult their healthcare professional in order to determine what dose is right for them. However, don't exceed the amount recommended on the bottle!

There are many myths about ascorbic acid. Ekberg doesn't mention the fact that virtually all animals make ascorbic acid in large quantities and humans don't make it. This is typical telltale of someone telling you a story to dissuade you from using ascorbic acid correctly. Animals make ascorbate by converting glucose (a simple sugar molecule) to ascorbate, which is the molecule l-C6H8O6. When it was discovered that this single molecule cured scurvy, it was named ascorbic (anti-scurvy) acid and later was named "vitamin C". Irwin Stone said that calling it a vitamin was misleading. There is no other "vitamin" that has to be taken in widely varying quantities to address the need from day to day. It is more like a missing anti-stress hormone. No one claims that melatonin (which our body does make, and plants and animals all make, and it is a true antioxidant) is a "complex". Melatonin is just a molecule which has an important role in the body. Dr. Suzanne Humphries video titled "vitamin C basics" starts out talking about other animals and contrasting them with humans. This is the right approach to describing ascorbic acid. The video titled "Dr. Robert Cathcart, vitamin C pioneer" contains accurate information and is well worth the 30 min watch because you can prove for yourself how high dose ascorbic acid shuts down disease. His paper called VITAMIN C, TITRATING TO BOWEL TOLERANCE, ANASCORBEMIA, AND ACUTE INDUCED SCURVY is available with a quick search. It is information key to your understanding of vitamin C and to avoiding the misinformation that is rampant. I have a children's book titled "Buttercup, Me, and Vitamin C" that explains the biochemistry to children. Very simple. The idea that a vitamin is best in its "whole food" form is an emotionally appealing argument. I like to get nutrients from food. But there is no science behind anything in his video about ascorbic acid. And there's also nothing in that video that can be proven by an individual. I tell people like this guy that a great source of "whole food" vitamin C would be cow or goat urine, since they make it and excrete it all day long. Go drink some of that. It is very misleading for people to talk about vitamin C without mentioning that all mammals make ascorbic acid and humans don't because of a missing enzyme.

I have been recommended a vitamin C supplement labeled triple vitamin C by Eladiet. Described as “coated” vitamin C it is made up of acerola extract (malpighia glabra L and “vitamin C” + liposomal vitamin C (phosphatidicoline complex, palmitic acid and oleic acid). 500 mg per capsule. Would love to see a video looking into the true origins/how liposome / coated vitamin C is produced. These guys state it is “natural” although the natural part is just an extract of acerola... and the label seems to suggest it makes up 50% but I think it’s deliberately misleading as it’s all bunched up together on the label description. Any one else come across this?

im not sure of what the percentages are but absorbic just gives you a fraction in the synthetic pill form of say 1000 to 2000mg ....but...best look at Guava, Red Pepper, Kale, Broccoli....much much more Vit C than oranges and other fruit...eat it 2 or 3 times a day, but if anything once a day

Do the animals produce in their liver bioflavonoids?? No , they they produce only ascorbic acid,, of course the extra ingredients that we consume with the foods , act synergistic with ascorbic acid, but ascorbic acid is the vitamin c. From what i have read.

Just watched Your video about liposomalnic vitamin C. Im trying to find stomach easy vitamin C for some time and that is how I know about liposomalnic vitamin C. Asked in local farmacy. After watching Your video, I think I did make a mistake to buy it. Take it just once today. Please, can You have any suggestion about some version of vitamin C that can be easy to consume. My problem is that I have heavy anemia after several operation of stomach. Subtotal Gastronomy Roux Y. Because of Acute Ulcer with bleeding. For many years. Using liquid Iron, but I need some way to take a vitamin C with Iron. Thank You. Best regards from Croatia.

I have been unable to find a study that shows the vit C complex that you describe here. I've only been able to find Ascorbic acid. Do you have a source for natural vit C complex? I was told by another doctor that all vit C, even in nature, is ascorbic acid. I couldn't find any info about vit C complex other than ascorbic acid.

How much vitamin "c" is in these oranges in grocery stores? Oranges now a days come from Mexico and Brazil and Florida. They pick them before they're ripe and then they ripen later. I doubt that there is much vitamin "c" or much of any of the other nutrients that he discussed in our oranges. It's like are vegetables, which lack much of any nutrients thanks to modern systems of agriculture and GMOs. You better be taking supplements because there isn't much of anything in our fruits and vegetables these days. I take vitamin "c" caps that also contain other ingredients added to them. I eat a half of a grapefruit in the morning, but that is not enough.
