I like the discussions on vitamin D and preventing inflammation (including a recent video on importance of walking after eating). I download and watch virtually every video you put out. Thank you for doing all you do! I try to hit like each video too, as a small first step in giving thanks back for your content! Your philosophy emphasizes personal responsibility and I think out culture desperately needs that (and there is a peer reviewed paper on external locus of control sadly drastically increasing over the last several decades!)

Anecdote on D and inflammation and perhaps histamine response: I was a runner for 36 years and spent much time outdoors. I suddenly stopped running and nearly 100% of my outdoor light exposure stopped. I then noticed higher “allergic” responses to foods, mosquito bites and bee stings. While I am not overweight and still maintain my 6’2” 165. I suspect I should get back outside and boost my bit D as it seems that bit D is critical to improving immunity.

Wow! About 6 months I started taking vitamin D because I learned it can help in the fight against Covid. I also started a cardio program to burn fat, I weighed around 169 and was hoping to burn off 10 pounds if I was lucky. I have tried many times to lose weight which is what kept me around 165-170. At present I'm at 154 and have been losing weight at a steady pace even after I stopped the cardio program 6 weeks ago. I couldn't understand why this time I lost so much but was of course over the moon. This explains or could explain why such a drastic weight loss. For reference I'm 49 so weight loss isn't easy

I just had my labs drawn earlier this month and my vitamin d was 67 ng/dL. I was surprised. I have been seeing a functional medicine practitioner for over 6 years and my levels have always ranged between 29-41. I have been walking outside daily for almost 2 years and supplementing for ~ 6 years (increasing from 5000 to 10000 IU in the past 4 months). I guess my gut is finally healing and I’m absorbing better.

The result was 149.5 nmol/litre, at the top of the recommended range. Fast forward to jan 2022 when I was retested. My level now is in exess of 250nmol/litre and I have hypervitaminosis D. 250 nmol/litre equates to an American reading of 100 ng/ml. My testing lab reference range for NORMAL is 30 to 100 ng/ml. Some labs have a 30-80 ng/ml reference range. When you were at 150 nmol/l, you were only at 60 ng ml. I wouldn't stop taking your Vitamin D altogether. Who wants to be deficient when Covid is still with us. You need to have a minimum level of 50 ng/ml to protect against serious Covid consequences. That would be a minimum level of 125 nmol/litre for you. Just reduce your dose proportionally. I guess your doc hasn't "gotten the memo." You might want to take Vitamin K2-MK4 to make sure your calcium goes into your bones instead of your arteries or kidneys. I do. Do some more reading on Vitamin D. I understand that many of the researchers think that levels up to 150 ng/ml are safe, and possibly higher. Just get tested. Hope you do well!

Anecdotal: In 2019 I had climbed up to 500 lbs after breaking my leg, tearing both my meniscus, and then the next year breaking my back. Now I supplement with D3 twice daily, as well as a bone density supplement with calcium, zinc, and magnesium, I eat red meat, dairy, and eggs relatively regularly, and I do a ketogenic diet, and I am unvaccinated for SARS-COV2. Never got COVID, haven't even had as much as a head cold outside of allergies in the last 5 years. I am a 40 yr old male with a BMI of around 45%, morbidly obese would be accurate. Hypertension has been a problem for me and I regulate it with 20mg of Lisinopril each morning. I began an exercise program and ketogenic diet in 2020, and lost about 100 lbs, to get where I am now which is about 395 lbs. I could not lose the weight until I started taking Vitamin D3 supplements twice daily consistently. I just had bariatric two weeks ago to combat the metabolic syndrome, and the only vitamin they give you is a multivitamin, so I started today taking my D3 again. I grind it up and mix it in some Greek yogurt. Whole diet right now is yogurt, bone broth, soup, soft cheeses. I am dropping weight like crazy because of the caloric restriction, the attention to micronutrients and gut biome. Even though its only about two weeks out from surgery I feel amazing and I wish I had done this right after I broke my leg, but the insurance wouldn't cover it. Moral of the story is, my wounds from surgery healed in like four days. I was up and walking ten laps around the hospital ward every two hours starting four hours after surgery. The nurses couldn't slow me down. Good nutrition is everything. Don't poison yourselves with garbage pretending to be food, and make sure you get you D3 and Calcium and the rest of your essential vitamins and minerals through any way you can, weather its raw foods or supplements. I will be back in the gym in a week and I cant wait to get to it. Also your videos are amazing! Thank you for the content and excellent explanations. I have taken lots of health courses at college and university including mid-tier chemistry, biology, and human physiology so I understand everything you are talking about most of the time. I remember having a cold one year back when I was a sunbather and it was the first warm day of the year and I got my cold sick self in the sun and I could FEEL the sun working and my cold just evaporated. It was the most powerful medical intervention for a cold I have ever experienced. This all inspires me to get my old body in the sun again this year to help protect me from covid. Sun bathing also helped fight the arthrtis from vaccine damage 20 years ago when I got Hep B vaccinated. Sun light is more potent than supplement forms, but I can do both. I had a neighbor whose was a crazy old sunbather, wrinkled weathered deeply suntanned skinny (drinker) who died suddenly of total organ failure in his late-mid sixties, the year before covid broke out, so you do need to take care of other things and it doesn't take THAT much time in the sun. Bare minimums are best.

My father, a man of good shape, had issues for years with a bleeding rectum/anus. I started having a similar issue in my forties during Winter bathroom pauses. I figured it was due to the 20 or 30 lbs weight fluctuation between Summer activities and sedentary Winter. I will also point out that prior to this, I was a monster consumer of milk. However, due to some other joint issues and such, I stopped with the milk consumption. After years of experiencing a bleeding rectum/anus figuring it was an inherited due to my father's experience, I just thought it a getting older issue. My seasonal weight increase/decrease tickled my brain since my Winter appetite is ravenous compared to Summer. So, I figured I'd try a Winter season with vitamin D supplements. And let me tell you, the vitamin D supplements stopped the bleeding rectum/anus issue and my Winter appetite, although is higher than Summer, is far less than it was under no vitamin D supplement regiment. I'm not telling anyone what to do. I'm just relaying my experience.

@@phileas1984 Hey, it helped after about 7 days since I've started, it cleaned up my skin a bit but after about a month and a half it was the same as it was before, so it didn't really help my case longterm. I've went to the hospital dermatologist and I'm on my way to start Methotrexate one of these days.

It seems like IU 5.000-10.000 D3, 200 mcg Vitamin K2 and 400 til 800 mg good quality magnesium daily, is a good combo. But, ask your GP or get your levels checked. Also a 50 vitamin B complex each day is good.

I think people dismiss the actual degree of importance D3 has. The key is taking Alot to get your levels way up for optimal performance. 1 a day does nothing

I just recently got my vitamin D levels from the myoxience test. 32.2; on the low side of what is considered normal. That is with using a Sperti D lamp 3x/week. I’m now doing high D loading per Jeff Bowles with cofactors (k2, magnesium, boron, zinc, beta carotene.). I’ll check it again next year

So interesting! What is weird is that I have been supplementing our 5 kids (ages 10, 8, 7, 6, 3) with 1,000 IU vitamin D3 each every single day for the past 2 years since the beginning of the pandemic (we are in Northern California, so can’t get from sun year round) and just this month had all our vitamin D levels tested. My 8 year old daughter is the only one who is overweight and pre-diabetic, but only her levels were over 50 ng/mL, all the other kids were between 41 and 46 ng/mL. Doesn’t that go against the data, since I remember learning that obese people have more Vit D deficiency? I myself was low at 31 ng/mL, and after 2 years of 5,000 IU daily supplementation, plus K2, I am still only around 49 ng/mL. Upping to 7,000 IU as I want to get above 50/60.
@VagabondAnne
@VagabondAnne 2 года назад
I wonder if your other kids get more sun exposure during the summer? An 8 year old girl who is a Bit overweight might shy away from swimsuit season. Or perhaps she is bookish and stays inside reading during the sunnier hours?
@AN-jw2oe
@AN-jw2oe 2 года назад
@@VagabondAnne good hypothesis but our kids spend about the same amount of time outdoors… very strange to me. Maybe something about her body genetically makes her both have these health issues but also makes her be able to absorb the Vit D3 better? 🤷🏻‍♀️

My 8 year old son was taking 1000 IU daily but still below 50ng. I upped his intake to 2000iu a day now. He always get cold and runny nose but gets better fast too. So hopefully increasing it will help him not get runny nose often
@AN-jw2oe
@AN-jw2oe 2 года назад
@@Jhadyspeaks that is great! It is sad how mainstream medicine is so slow to respond to newer data about health and medicine. When I told my Stanford-trained pediatrician that I was trying to get my kids’ vitamin D levels up, she was concerned that over 50 would be too high! 🤦🏻‍♀️ and she was concerned that my supplementing them with 100mcg K2 three times a week could lead to blood thinning. Glad we have other more reliable sources of health info, I think we should ban the phrase, “ask your doctor.”

@@AN-jw2oe I rarely take my kids to the Doctor. Probably once every 2 years just to stablish relationship because the school needs me to write down Primary care Physician. But every time I take them, the doctor said the kids are very healthy and well taken care off. But since covid, I have the doctor do blood work now to check vit d level and iron since anemia run in our family. Other that than, I was blessed with healthy kids but I spent a lot of time in the kitchen making healthy meals. Our Primacy physician is not a fan of supplementing with vitamins but after the blood work result, he recommend i would up my son's iron and vit d lol. I think he does not like me spending money on vitamins but wants us to get vitamins through food. SOmetimes, we just have to supplement esp on D.

Interesting that fat accumulation (eating fruits in the summer) might require excess/plentiful vitamin D (from the sun). Perhaps we are understanding all the detailed mechanisms that bring us full circle to appreciated evolutionary/paleo principles. My guess is that not only vitamin D sufficiency is required, but other sunshine metabolites as well.

I’d love for you to cover the active form of Vit D (125) rather than the Vit D stores. I’ve recently heard that vitamin d levels typically measured are not necessarily indicative of overall Vit D levels depending on how much the body is calling for at any given time and many different factors. I’m trying to learn all I can because I have just learned that vitamins D3 is a trigger for rosacea and also has an affect on androgens. So, my rosacea is out of control and my acne is too. I recently stopped Vit D due to forgetting to bring it with me on a trip and my face peeled and cleared up in a week’s time. I get home, resume the vit D, and within 2 days my skin is back into an acne and rosacea flare. On the 3rd night of taking my Vit D again I held it in my hand and thought… “i wasn’t taking this for a week and my face was clear” So again I cut out my D3 and my skin calming down again.

Additional info: I am not overweight, I exercise daily, I eat a healthy diet with minimal processed foods, no fast foods, very little alcohol. I eat mostly wild game and Alaska salmon, but of course fruits and veggies are commercially bought. I live in Alaska where I would expect to vit D deficient so I was taking 5000IU D3 with K2.

Vitamin D is not a vitamin. It is a hormone. Every cell in the body has a receptor for it. My DNA SNP results indicated I had defective receptors. Although I live in Hawaii, I am at a disadvantage making my own D. However, the angle of the sun anywhere must be correct for skin to manufacture. Easiest way to know time of day is if my shadow is SHORTER than my height. Also, sunlight must hit large amounts of skin directly. Not through clothing or glass (windows).

I love your channel and especially your stance regarding the vaccine and mandates. You stood your ground and I very much respect that given the current environment. However just a gentle point that when you say please consult your doctor, understand that 43 million Americans don’t have any healthcare at all. This means access to a doctor isn’t the most obvious thing for them. I would love for you to address that in your videos and what should people do when they’re faced with minimal or no healthcare.

I did everything to lose weight but nothing helped i never dropped any weight with diet exercise and what so ever so i got disappointed and stopped exercise as i had always been very achy and extremely tired after exercise. My dad told me to get my vitamin D levels check as i was over weight and not losing any fat. I found out i am extremely deficient so i took vitamin D and didnt do any exercise or physical activity specially to lose weight as i never dropped any weight with that and was disappointed. 3 months of taking vitamin D someone mentioned that i looked alot lean and suggested me to check my weight. I checked and was 8 kgs down without even trying first time in life i am just amazed to see the benefits of taking vitamin D in improving sleep , energy levels and good mood.
