Should be a healthy chop! Haha will have to get some insight on what is safe for the bottom end, these cams could make power well above the factory 6500 rpms limit. I would guess we bump it up to 7300-7500.
I'm still playing catch up on your vk vids but plan on building one myself, I've got a non vvt from my old 07 armada that spun 4 rod bearings, having a hell of a time finding a crank for it but plan on full internals, couldn't find cams but thanks to you I now know bout the nz ones... do you think it would be worth swapping to the vvt style heads?
Yeah not a ton of aftermarket stuff for these engines. I ended up getting another motor due to spun bearings as well, it was cheapier in the long run. You could swap to the vvt heads. However some people delete the cam phasers all together with high lift cams, I guess thats up to you or your tuner with how you advance the timing. I like the idea of using the vvt for power curve, but it really isnt necessary
Hows it going man. Nice build progress! Definitely following as im doing the similar swap. Make the oil pan and ill pay you! Lol. Ill send you my stock one 😅
Haha it could be done if you send me the pan! The swap is 95% done now and ill post an update video here real soon. Should be up and running in the coming week or so!
The VQ is a nice light engine. How much heavier is the VK in comparison. In trying to decide between these two engines but lean more towards the VQ just because of weight alone. I'm also curious as to why you just didn't just turbo the VQ if you wanted more Hp.
I had a turbo vq in the past and it didnt work out for me, its always ran hot, had way more piping in the way of basic maintenance/repairs on track, blowing intercooler boots mid drift etc. Im sure I could have refined it more and had good results but after the 2nd engine blew up I went back to NA vq. And honestly liked it so much more with the cams and more rpms. I went VK because of the massive increase in torque compared to the VQ, i figured I could hit around 400 ft/lbs of torque without forced induction and low in the power band at 3000rpm. Where the vq really lacked the torque NA. Also im stubborn and just wanted to go something not many people have done haha
@titanfabinc I agree with you 100 per cent. I'm big fan of your swap but bro you had to put the VD in there and not the DE. Would of gave you over 400 hp and torque.
Great info man! Wanted to ask, all the info I’ve found, many have said they swapped a 350z trans and they always failed ? Any tips or info on that and also man where u think I could source one of these ? Junkyards ?
It would be my opinion that the "CD" gearbox in any of its variations, (001,003,009) have been very robust. They will hold good power and can be found in G35/350Z/370Z they have been a go to for alot of swaps 2jz,Rb,Sr,Ls,13b driving the price up alot in the recent years. To answer your question. I am doubtful it will fail, specifically if clutched properly for the power level im at. Same exact drivetrain ive had on turbo Vq and NA Vq the last 6 years. Yes! Wreckers or junkyards. These are found in Titans, Armadas,Qx56, NV2500 vans, and M56 to name a few!
@@titanfabinc you are the man my friend I appreciate the help! Also I see you do fabrication? Could u do fabrication for Datsun Zs? There’s nothing really in the market as far as kits go?
@puertoropelu2257 No problem, glad to help. Yes of course, anything is possible really. Hardest thing would be not having a vehicle/chassis to mock up test fit on.
@@titanfabinc damn yeah I really didn’t think that through ? Are you close to Pennsylvania at all? I wouldn’t mind when the time comes I ship the car over to your garage to get them done if I do go with this swap ?
@@titanfabincNice. I’ll have to sub and watch some more of the videos. I’m in the process of doing a Ford Y block and a Man O War 302 based build too. I’ll have to keep an eye out for a 5.6L for the van in the future!
