Somehow...Marvelous Videos has tapped into the recesses of my brain and used it to make their channel. I say this because they seem to cover almost every pop culture niche that I personally have enjoyed over the course of my life. From martial arts movies, to comics, to horror anthologies...it's scary how spot on they are with my interests lol
I feel that. I guess that's why I subscribed. It's a crime that their thumbs-ups are so low compared to other channels. I suspect that it's because they might just be relatively new compared to them.
In the later books . It's speculated that the baron gains weight intentionally as a ding of power and to inspire disgust . , and he pleasure in disturbing people. Also a sign of his greed . He is like jabba the hut , he is do powerful he doesn't need to move. , he also got a kick out of . Forcing beautiful people to be with his grotesque. ( beauty and the beast)
If you go with the books by the original author, you are correct. If you go by the bastardization novels that Herbert's son wrote and that this channel seems to love, then he was infected by a Reverend Mother....
Thank you both, for I thought my memory was slipping, lol! I was thinking, "Were they BOTH, though?", but the original, it was a VERY deliberate thing.
Yes but in the old books / encyclopedia. Reverend mother mohiam is Jessica's mother as well . But its a dark family secret. Leto mentioned the name of Jessica's mother in god emporer. But it was an assumed name . .
In the prequel novels he is made sick after assaulting Mohiam and that's why he starts putting on weight. Once he realizes that he won't find a cure he starts acting like a glutton to create an image that he decided to be fat because he didn't want anyone to know it was inflicted upon him. He was very vain before he was infected, that was why Mohiam chose that disease to give him, she knew it would strike at the heart of his vanity. The Bene Gesserit keep a few diseases latent through their control over thier bodies so that they can infect people if they need to. Biological weapons and atomics were strictly taboo but by carrying the sicknesses in their systems the Sisterhood could get around it because no one knew they had such control over their bodies they could cure themselves of pretty much any illness
Yes, Piter and the baron are sadistic. Rabban . Yes, it is bloodthirsty or a brute. Although I suspect he enjoys the pain of others, he oversaw all the slaves owed by house harkonen, I believe. And enjoys whipping people.
Rabban was a brute, maybe lesser of a threat for it. Piter if i remember was already addicted to some substance before meeting the Harkonnens. however Feyd scared me the most, he had the potential to be worse than the baron even if not exactly blood related
The 1984 one is good because it a had good scene of the navigator which they failed twice now to portrait in the new movies, there is little way to understand any of the movies without studying the lore, the universe is too complex for movies to explain much of whats going on politicaly, Its like trying to make game of thrones as 2.5 hour movies. They also dont explain well the secret fighting style of paul except kinda when he fights feyd, he does like a horizontal spin. In 1984 they adapted his special style into a secret sonic weapon that wasnt part of the books- they shout maudib into a microphone thar causes explosions, but the true style is used in melee combat- the fremen are impressed by. Look up dune weirding way.
He didn't just molest slaves; he preferred young boys/teens. It is also mentioned he found Paul attractive. He was almost assassinated by a male sex slave, that's why he had his nephew Feyd Rutha kill his harem for the plot. Of course this isn't PC so shouldn't be mentioned in a 30+ min about the Baron.
He is a central character but only made it through one book before being killed. The fact he was Alia's Grandfather and took her over is not him being around. The Fremen destroyed the Harkonans by the time Alia went insane.
Yeah, he was on the fence about killing Paul because he wanted him sexually ….he conveyed his disappointment but he realized that he needed to destroy the entire house so that the landsradt wouldn’t find out and rally behind Paul
It was definitely implied in Lynch’s film and definitely shown in the SciFi miniseries, albeit in a PG sort of way. The cultural climate being what it is right now, I doubt it will be included in part 2 of Villeneuve’s film.
Great video, thanks.... I love the Dune story since reading the books..... I hope that the second film this year investigates the place that women cannot go the key to Paul's ultimate power.
He was blackmailed into conceiving a child with Helen. He was disguised by being a gay man. When Helen returned to conceive another child he assaulted her as payback. She retaliated by giving him an incurable disease.
It's hard for me to hear you pronounce his name without the hard O in it. Not this right or wrong, it's just it's already been ingrained in my head that way. LOL
Baron Harkonnen in the Dune 2021 movie almost resembles Reverend Sullivan Knoth, the sadistic and zealous cult leader of the Testament of the New Ezekiel, the fanatical tyrant of Temple Gate in the rural Arizona desert, and one of the main villains of Outlast 2.
I always believed the line of logic of “I’m gonna destroy my enemy with this plan” plan doesn’t work, lots of people die “eeerrrrrgggg our plan failed, now we must get revenge” is so stupid but also hilarious, like Mfer you started this shit lmao
You would think the emperor would go against the Harkenen but I guess he was betting against their incompetence compared to Latos competence and following of all other families
The Emeperor wasn't scared of the Baron, he could deal with him. Duke Leto was getting too popular within the Landsraad and had been building up his military.
Not ONE mention of the battle of Corinn! Thats where the true hatred comes from. An a Atreides banished a Harkonnen at the battle for cowardice I think, I forget the reason but that's where the feud comes from. Fuck
Man the 80s version gave him these gross oozing pustules on a skin I would have liked to see some of that for this film version other than that love it
From your description you made it sound like the baron hated the Atreides because they were asked to oversee the spice duties on arrakis, that’s not the case, the Atreides family ruled over caladan and the dude began before that.
A long ago Duke Atreides public showed a Baron as a total coward publicly, and humiliating the Harkonan clan. The hatred of the Atredies long precedes the move to Dune. The Emperor was scared of Duke Leto because he was afraid he'd take his throne from him with his popularity, so supported the Baron Vladmir secretly to get rid of Leto. Dune was a "trap" for the Duke, and was used to destroy House Attredies. That didn't work our so well for the Emperor of course.
Why you use footage from the movie? To this date, the miniseries version is the most accurate version that is ever portrayed, and most of the Dune fans had become wary of the movie, because is devoid of any world building and context, as barren as the Star Wars sequels.
“Signature death stare?” Lord almighty do you need a copy editor. I’m 5 minutes in and already I’ve heard at least 10 grammatical errors and countless unnecessary words and mispronunciations. And he’s floating not standing 9 foot tall.
@@tessierashpoolmg7776 I don't think he did a good job sticking with the source material. You are right. All the good shots were basically stolen from the Lynch Dune. Then there's the Keynes gender swap that was pointless and only done to insert modern day ideologies of women. Which ruins the Fremen culture as well as the Fishspeakers of Leto II.
