Excellent! She's one of the smartest and most creative self-taught Makers out there, not just within China. Her cyborg enhancements tend to befuddle Western males, which is precisely the point.

It's such a shame that she has to put up with so much rubbish. I don't know how she has the energy and focus to keep going: it must be so hard on her. Women in general are subjected to terrible behaviour in the tech industry, but Naomi in particular just seems to have it heaped on her.

It's actually her choice, part of her mission. She intentionally picked this path (and her implants) after one too many "only a girl" comments and similar rejections, exclusions and worse. Anyone willing to take this much personal abuse to blaze the path to a better day deserves our support. Specifically, our Patreon support, to give her the resources to devote more time to her Maker efforts and reduce her need for her day job as a coder (also self-taught). The current wave of sexual harassment and abuse claims in the US, along with the #MeToo hashtag, are clear signs that not only have women become more willing to call out powerful people on their terrible behavior, but also that the American public, men and women both, are willing to listen and act. Hopefully, this will become the standard at all levels of society, including within the Maker community. The global Maker community is dominated by misogynistic white males, and it seems way too many other Makers all over the world take their attitudes from these leaders. There are many great exceptions, of course, who encourage and foster equal participation for all, especially women. But the attitudes within local Makerspaces are too often failing follow their lead. Naomi is willing to show up and willfully trigger men's worst misogynistic behavior, then kick ass with her terrific projects. I love her project tag-line: "If I can do it, anyone can!" If Makers want to rally behind a "warrior princess", we'd have trouble doing better than Naomi Wu, SexyCyborg.
