recently, my team and i hit the road for a social tournament of wheelchair basketball in Palmerston North. along the way, we saw mountain ranges, lakes, and yes, had an impromptu snowball fight.
wheelchair basketball is a really engaging sport, that can be played at a competitive level as well. it is more logistical than normal basketball in my opinion, because you can't get in and out of the key as easily and you can block people with your chair. currently there aren't enough players in Auckland for a women's team so teams are often mixed. anyone of nearly any ability can take part. i think it is particularly good for people with a chronic illness, disability, visible or not, but able-bodied people can learn how to use a sports wheelchair and take part as well. the club is always eager to meet people that would be interested in playing.
