Literally came here to ask the same question lol, will test myself but believe Parallels to be faster since they were the first product and made more improvements
Wow, the product has come full circle. Back in the 90s when VMWare came to the industry, it was free. It was free for many years, even in corporate environments. I liked using for test rigs and also low cpu, 24x7 environments. It was a great tool for IT admins. Thanks for the headsup. I don't think I'll need it anymore, but good information and great episode.👍🏽
Wait what? Maybe I'm biased being a software engineer but this mindset doesn't make any sense to me. The cost to run and maintain a server is usually way lower than the cost to develop and maintain software. So why would it be reasonable to pay for an active server but unreasonable to pay for active development?
@@TheSaltCrackathat’s fine, but offer it as perpetual and price it accordingly, like they used to. They have an existing market and they’re not developing a new product. There’s no excuse for existing companies moving to subscriptions.
I believe in you, I trust you. Your videos are great. Keep going and believe in yourself. I understand that and am writing you this comment on purpose. Keep going.
I found a way to download the software like 3 days ago, I was looking for that page for hours until I got it, this video would have been really helpful. Thank you for helping the community
How did you find it? Every time I make an account I get redirected to the home page, but I'm not signed in. And I need a username to sign in, but making a username wasn’t an option when registering.
Thank you for this. In your last video _(and Twitter)_ a few days ago I asked if you could do a video on VMware going Broadcom and the complication of getting the software. I know it's just coincidence but its great to see.
@@itjustcrashed I don't think Apple cares either way, and if they do, they'd lean toward allowing bootcamp. I think if MS told them they wanted to bring Bootcamp over, Apple would be onboard.
I am a fusion player user. I cand download pro, because Broadcom said my account is pending. I went through all the steps for porting, but I can’t use it.. any help?
I've been trying for days and still have this pop up when trying to download. No verification email or anything. "Account verification is Pending. Please try after some time."
How would you use it for professional use? Game development? Because if you use it as a RU-vidr, how would they know unless you put it in the description?
VMWare Fusion Pro seems to me to perform much more slowly than Parallels, running either Windows 11 or Fedora. I am curious to see whether other folks have successfully optimized performance.
Hi, I have an M3 Mac and Im trying to use Lumion a 3D software i check the 3D acceleration box but the bench mark says its does not use 3D graphics. Do I have to do something else so the graphics can be used?
I run them both, Parallels has a bit better for gaming performance and overall features on Apple Silicon. VMware fell behind Parallels when Apple moved to ARM. The main reason for this was that Parallels was willing to ignore the fact that technically Windows for ARM was only allowed on Qualcomm chips, due to a licensing agreement between MS and Qualcomm. VMware decide it was going to wait util MS revised the license. Ultimate Parallel made the better bet, as neither MS or Qualcomm cared, though. don't fault VMware for wanting to keep things legal. Anyway, I haven't updated VMware in a few months, so I'm going to see if they've made any major changes, but given the really slow pace of their development, I really doubt I'll see any major changes (Ive been using VMware on ARM since the beta first opened).
Does everyone here using it have a Windows license? Or you all used it without it? How did that go? Did you get locked out of windows a short period later?
To download the VMware click the icon next to name ( default is mainframe software) and select VMware Cloud foundation. There you can select Fusion in my downloads etc. .. the design is horrible :D .
I still need the license that you refer to around 2:55 in the other video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f9TUIVDUjto.html) where you explain the rest of the steps in the middle. But the VMware page does not exist in this form anymore, so where do I get the licence key? Somewhere on broadcom? I tried it without the key. Doesn't work.
Can someone help me with this issue: This virtual machine cannot be powered on because it requires the X86 machine architecture, which is incompatible with this Arm machine architecture host. Im trying to run VM ware Fusion 13.6 on my new MacBook Pro Sonoma 14.6
Microsoft annonce new Prism translation layer (x86 to arm) for Windows and says that it 20 percent faster then existing translation layer. Maybe, it also increase performance of x86 apps in Parallels/VMware for Macs?
It looks like VMWare Fusion won't let you run macOS (Apple Silicon version) where as Parallels will. But I just let my Parallels subscription lapse and just use an Intel machine if I need to virtualize macOS.
'Account verification is Pending. Please try after some time.' What do I do???? Edit: it's now 7 days later and still the exact same message shows up. Anyone any help??
@@graceiphk thanks! i did what you said, i went to "My downloads", searched for VMware Fusion, and then i was able to get to the website where it is Andrew
Click on the icon at top right corner next to your name, in the dropdown menu, select "VMware cloud foundation" VMware clound fundation > VMware Fusion
hey any idea how to connect xbox controller to windows 11? able to connect it to Mac but controller is not being detected inside Vision Pro ... Another question, is there a way to lock windows 11 inside fusion to lock so that I am not accidentally switching to Mac functions ?
Which games work best on vmware fusion pro? I downloaded it yesterday after seeing this but I only have macbook pro 13 M1 with 16GB of RAM and 2TB SSD. I tried a few Steam games and it either didn't run because of AVX requirement or it ran really bad. I gave the VM 8GB and 256GB Harddisk. Is there anyway to make the games more playable?
You don’t need a license key. During the install just choose the second bubble for I will be using this for personal use instead of filling in the box for a license key
Looks like Parallels is going to see a massive decline in users subscribing now that there's a free option. Parallels is still better, but I think for most people, the subscription won't be worth it vs VMware Fusion Pro considering it's free!
I got it installed and up and running easily enough and it recognizes all of my USB devices except for the two I would need the most. I scoured their tech-support pages and just can't come up with a way for it to recognize these two devices. Any ideas?
Hey Andrew by chance do you know if the VMware fusion pro supports egpu? I was able to use boot camp on my 2019 MacBook Pro 16” that was still Intel based and was able to use my razer core plug and play. Just wanted to see if I can do the same now that I have to use arm based on the silicon Mac. Currently using my 2021 MacBook Pro M1 Pro 16”
It does not support an eGPU. It only uses the Apple Silicon graphics, and doesn't offer any graphics hardware passthrough. I wanted to get VR working within Parallels and VMware, but ran into hardware and virtualization limitations.
You cannot use a VR headset with any VM on your Mac. I tried extensively about a year ago, then someone made a video talking to a developer, and he talked about how it was impossible giving the way virtualization works, so I gave up. I really hope/wish Meta would bring back VM support.
@@rickkarrer8370 Have you tried Shadow PC? That's how I originally played Alyx. It was pretty good that way actually. I want something native to MacOS now tho.
@@brianres No, I haven't heard of that service before, thanks! It looks like they promise you can run VR games, though I'm thinking the $20 tier may be needed for VR. I guess that's cheeper than a gaming PC in the short term, though at the 5 year mark, you will have paid $1,200.
@@rickkarrer8370 hm, I tried an Xbox controller and a Stadia controller wired. The Stadia controller won't show up. I see the Xbox controller in Device Manager, but i am unable to get steam to see it or use it to input controls in a game
@@HRM2010 Odd, mine popped up right away. You may have a dialog pop up and disappear asking you if you want. the controller to connect to Windows or Mac. This was happening to me a lot. If you go up to the Virtual Machine menu, then "USB & Bluetooth", do you see it listed there? Mine shows as "Microsoft Controller". If so, you should be able to connect it that way.
