Like someone said a while ago..."...you ain't seen nuthin' yet!" This was a charity event so she performed even though she was not feeling well. It's sometimes difficult to accurately date the performances as many weren't uploaded immediately. She caught a very bad cold performing barefoot, as always, at the Nov2014 Noble Peace Prize Concert. If you want to be completely blown away, watch her cover of Screamin' Jay Hawkins "I Put a Spell on You". Of the many covers, hers is the only one I've heard that is based on the showman's 1956 original rather than Nina Simone's 1963 cover, and Angelina does her own arranging, even at the tender age of 9. Hi guys. Thanks for reacting to Angelina again. There's LOTS of things to discover about her (which I'm not going to tell you right now, some others might). But regarding this performance in particular and jazz in general, she grew up listening to that music. It's like she absorbed it as a sponge through the years. So, yes, Lala it's absolutely natural to her to sing this way. Her timing, her musicality, her grasp of the genre, it's embedded in her. Not to mention that she has a wide range of vocal tools, even from that young age, that she uses ever so intelligently and genuinely. If you've got the time, go back to her audition and other songs from when she won Norway's got Talent at age 8. THEN you'll begin to understand ;) Two more things. This was a charity event as you can see from some of the pictures and the PLAN Organization sponsorship sign in the video. Also, she had a cold but wanted to perform anyway. Childrens' causes are very close to her heart. ♥
Welcome to Angelina's world where ALL are invited. Angelina is a music prodigy specializing in vocals. She seemingly had her own style from birth. Angelina has the natural ability to listen to a song then know how she wants to sing it. She is now 14 and recently signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. Angelina has the most beautiful soulful voice bringing more emotion IMO than any other vocalist of my lifetime. She is an even better human being as she has helped to raise millions of dollars for children's charities and environmental causes. Nice reaction. You should check out her Etta James cover I'd Rather Go Blind to see what she can do with vocal fry. She has gospel in her wheelhouse as well. Her low register is on full display in How Great Thou Art. Call and response in Something's Got a Hold On Me is great. But all her early jazz classics are exceptional, as well. Hope you stay with her.
It's great to see you checking out more Angelina! She does "At Last" so well at only 8 years old. She takes her time with every word and puts so much character into it. It's incredible all the little details that she puts into a vocal, and still somehow make it sound so natural. You have now seen a couple things from Angelina, but there is so much more to check out. I look forward to you digging into her huge library a little more. She has so many different styles of singing, and covers so many genres. She will keep impressing you in different ways with each new thing you see from her.

Very bluesy and jazzy in her young years, never loses that though even as she gets older. Check out some more and you will see that she is WELL aware of what she can do....on purpose.

I have listened to Angelina singing at a young age many, many, times, and and just when her performances start to lose their brilliance, I am dazzled yet again, as if hearing her for the first time. What a Difference a Day Makes (age 8, I think) always renews my belief that she is the greatest child singer ever. It seems almost impossible that a kid her age could express so much heart and soul, and with such composure, style, and grace, yet she does it every time.
She studied Etta James, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, and others of that jazz era, but Ella is the primary influence which mellows everything out. She is a prodigy in every sense of the word, she even arranges all her own performances and directs the musical accompaniment. She is the real deal!
She was already making her own arrangements of these songs, and yes, her underpinnings are jazz/blues, and we're talking from the 1940's - 1950's. She won Norway's Got Talent at age 7/8 with JAZZ----Billie Holiday for the first 2 audition songs. Did Bang-Bang, then won with Gershwin's "Summertime" sung like Etta James.
You two are such a good match. You both have incredible voices but when you sign together it is so beautiful. Angelina can sing any style she wants and she always makes the song her own. You should watch her live performance of "It's a man's world" and "I'm feeling good" to really appreciate her amazing vocal range. Angelina started singing at 1.5 yrs.old. Jazz was her favorite musical form. As she has grown she listens voraciously to music, she has periods where she will try on a singers affect and will sound remarkably like who she is listening to. You both should watch Angelina's first public appearance on Norway's Got Talent which she entered and won at age 7-8. If you watch her 5-7 songs you will hear her ability to alter her vibrato to match the song she is singing. Her first two songs on NGT were both Billie Holiday songs. The first was 'Gloomy Sunday' that had an studio audience as well as the judges. Her next was another B.H. song, 'I'm A Fool To Want You.' this she does A capella form a cold start, meaning she steps up to the mic and starts singing this difficult song, without even a start note or tone. And she is flawless. If you go back to watch those and read the comments to get some background on this wonder child. Angelina is a musical savant and she is a quick study. She absorbs what she is listening to and it is eerie to start hearing that artist she listening to start to come out in her performances. Listen to her omage' to Amy Winehouse. P.S. I cannot remember if you have ever reacted to Daneliya Tuleshova from Kazakhstan. She has just put out a cover of the Birdy song, 'Not About Angels' that is sublime. I have been following both Angelina and Daneliya for 3-4 years. I have a chronic disease that involves pain and mind-numbing fatigue. So in the middle of the night I will cruise the 'Net' to find new singers. Daneliya and Angelina are "My Twins', both born in 2006, Angelina is 6 months older, both started singing young, though Daneliya was on a track to be an Olympic gymnast until a career-ending leg injury made her shift future asperations. Daneliya then was very involved with ballroom dancing as well as street dance. When she was around 7-8 her Dad noticed a big change in her singing. Her voice had gotten bigger and had developed a very clear vibrato. The parents decide to explore Daneliya's obvious talents and enrolled her in a Performing Arts school. Soon after she was there one of her instructors at the school entered Daneliya in a regional singing contest, which she won by a lot. One of the judges said of her, " How do children compete against one who sings like an adult. She has been 'kissed on the forehead by God' who will stand stand successfully against her." It was after this show that one of the pre-eminant vocal teachers in all of Kazakhstan came to her parents and offered her services. She and Daneliya hit it off immediately, and the rest is history. What we get from Angelina is a pure, honest, organic and a highly sensitive and intuitive interpretation of the covers she sings. She is hyper aware of how to express the subtle nuances of her voice, the inflections, her use if vibrato, her perfect pitch and her incredible range is almost unbelievable for such a young child. The she tops it off with her uncanny maturity and professionalism. This outstanding young lady was born to sing and play music. She is a once in a generation talent. I have never been more profoundly affected by a young child singing than I have with Angelina. Listening to her sing is addictive. I find myself wanting more.
When I see you both singing your new song, what comes to mind is: the joy of singing. Listening again and again to Angelina singing that version of her cover of Aretha Franklin, I feel a rush each time to send piles of money for that foreign charity fundraising. "You smiled and then the spell was cast And here we are in Heaven For you are mine at last" The way she sings the song is the way angels flutter their wings and glide around us.

Angelina has been silent for the last year since she recorded AGT. Yesterday she has released her 1st professionally produced original song, Million Miles, under her new label, Republic Records. It's a song about losing a loved one in your life & specifically for Angelina it's a song to her maternal Grandfather who died 2 years ago. Angelina has never embodied any of the songs she sings, but for hearing those songs, and other than being an Old Soul, more importantly, Angelina, has ever since I 1st saw her at 1 1/2 years young, I noticed Angelina was and remains an Empath along with being an Old Soul and as such, an Empath (with a singing voice) will automatically be able to sing all the high or low notes of any song ....
