@@Tarasimonstudios Tonight We Ride is the song that introduced me to UTA. I'd also strongly recommend "Dreamcrusher". There's a live video from Dr. Light that's just fantastic. Really shows off the whole band's range and versatility, and that they can do it live.
I am so glad you reacted to this because the skill and range Brittney and other metal vocal artists have goes under appreciated. If you want to critique unleash the archers when she is working higher in her range, react to tonight we ride!
J U His drumming is amazing, but nobody gives props to the real power of the band, which is his mustache. It wouldn’t be the same without that majestic lip curtain.
What I really like is that you immediately recognize and respect the unbelievable skill and stamina of Scott Buchanan, the drummer. I’ve seen Unleash the Archers live twice, and the dude can keep on tempo, on beat, barely sweating for a two hour concert. Also, Brittany Slayes can and does hit the high notes and vibratos love as well. They are an incredible group, and I’m so proud that they are Canadian because they are world class
Also, Scott’s double kick is different that about 98% of drummers, who will either use and alternating step double kick (left right left right) or use a single bass drum with a double action pedal (push all the way down for one hit, release fully for the second). Scott does something that is known by a variety of names, but I love the one name I read a few years back called a “flicked gallop.” He flicks the first hit then pedals the second on one foot, then flicks the first and pedals the second on the right foot as his left foot lifts off the pedal to start the flick again. Stupidly hard to do.
I think metal singers are overlooked a lot of the time. Especially for this genre of metal. They're often classically trained and are very technically sound because they have to be to produce that kind of singing consistently (and do it live in concert). Their set up as a band is pretty simple, but they're all super talented. Love it.
Hey Tara! Tatiana from Jinjer just released a "One Take Vocal Performance" of their song Judgement (& Punishment) a couple days ago. Would be a great opportunity to get on that when its new and/or maybe do a Double Feature reaction video. You'd be in a unique spot where you could react to the official music video and also what Tatiana just put out. Since this channel focuses on vocalists breakdowns and analysis, her One Take Vocal Performance would be the best choice if you had to choose one. That video really gives you a rare face to face with her in the booth the entire time and really showcases what she does best along with a great platform for you to react to. I know you've done Pisces in the past, but the world needs more Jinjer reactions. Hope you revisit the band in the future. Love what you're doing, and wish you all the success in your continued RU-vid journey. You deserve every bit of it. =o) JINJER - Judgement (& Punishment) - Tatiana Shmayluk - One Take Vocal Performance ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q5rg_63Shqg.html JINJER - Judgement (& Punishment) (Official Video) | Napalm Records ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zt3hEznbuuM.html There's also a great live show of this song too if you're interested. Ooooh yes, it's insanely good. Tara, you already appreciated Tatianas talent and skills at the "Pisces" Video, but that One Take Vocal Performance of Judgement (& Punishment) shows it even to perfection !
@@MaxArch yes! :D not the biggest fan of her in general tbh, but definitely gotta give her props for the headbanging. A bit awkward (normal for a beginner in anything), but the timing was totally on point! She even totaly nailed the finish as well. Didn't expect it at all. Most of the other reaction channels have the hardest time to properly headbang, so this was definitely a pleasant surprise :)
This! I love this song also, but Tonight We Ride is a better representation of Brittney's incredible vocal range. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UOvZKJlrtk8.html Also, Cleanse the Bloodlines ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PfSL-6YExzk.html
She's amazing!!! This isn't even the top of her range. If you react to "Tonight We Ride" you'll really see how clear and intense her high notes are. I'm still so glad you reacted to them though!!!
I adore the production value and the sound quality of this album. Whoever mixed it did a great job. It's one of the best albums I've discovered in a long time.
"Awakening" To look up into the night's sky, to see the stars they are changed To know a thousand years or more have passed, and I am the same This mountain hollow that keeps me in a suffocating embrace A prison and a safe haven, it's always been this way Lo, a new master calls me to awakening, I know this one brings the end Far out beyond the darkness I've been living in it's true, a whole new world awaits Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night Once again revitalized, to roam; to never die My path begins with the new dawn; a voice is calling my name It always starts as whispering then manifests to a scream I'm drawn to the creature that wakes me, bound to them by the curse My soul exists only to serve, a covenant of birth Fear not the task ahead there's no escaping it, there's no good nor evil here Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night Once again revitalized, to roam; to never die Come to me, awakening Follow my voice, come to me Fear not the task ahead there's no escaping it, there's no good nor evil here Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night Once again revitalized, to roam; to never die Stellar constellations rise, lighting my way in the night Once again revitalized, to roam; to never die
I think a Simone Simons react would be nice, one of the following 1) Epica - Cry for the moon 2) Epica - Unleashed 3) Epica - Essence of Silence 4) Kamelot ft Simone Simons - The Haunting 5) Epica - Sensorium
Regarding the drumming: the technique he's using for his double bass is rarely seen in metal, as most prefer to use single kicks on each foot to get the speed required. What he's doing has a lot of names, ie stutter kicking, double pedaling, clutch kicking, etc. The basic idea is that when your knee apexes, you kick down with the ball of your foot, then lift the ball while dropping the heel and letting the foot come down naturally. It is IN-CRE-DI-BLY technical, and shows the skill he has to keep it exactly on the eight notes every beat. The only two other drummers I know of that use this style are Kai Hahto of Nightwish/Wintersun when he does his speed fills and very rarely, Nicko McBrain of Iron Maiden.
Hello from Edmonton, Canada 🇨🇦, Tara!! 😊. I loved your reaction to one of my all time favourite Canadian metal bands! 😊. UTA is from Victoria, BC and I had the pleasure of seeing them live 5 times already and I can’t wait for their next album and tour! I also had the great pleasure of meeting their lead singer, Brittney Slayes(Hayes)and she’s one of the nicest people I’ve ever met! 😊. Please react to more UTA, thank you so much! 😊. Take care, Tara and have a great week! 😊
Epica - Sancta Terra (feat Floor Jansen) Live Retrospect show Symphonic metal featuring Nightwish's singer Floor Jansen. I believe this was the 2nd to last song of a super long set. It's an amazing duet
Your reaction is great. Great thanks from this video. I love Unleash The Archers. Great musicians and great singer. One of the best metal bands nowadays. Keep up the great work :-).
I'd be interested in hearing her reaction to a fast drummer... I love unleash, don't get me wrong, but i giggled when she said great drummer. Just the dude from leprous sprang to mind cos I've been listening to ihsahn and, yeah, he's a solid drummer with damned good chops, nothing overly showy, but he just sits in that pocket and nails it from start to finish. But, let's face it, there are a million better metal drummers...
Fun fact: Brittney (the singer) and Scott (the drummer) founded the band back in 2007 and have been a couple for many years. Overall a great band. Probably one of the best Power Metal bands out there today.
The growler for Unleash the Archers impresses me to no end because of how restrained he can be. He never goes forte in this song, not even at his last burst near the end. A metal growler who can remain piano or even pianissimo while still delivering that solid harmonic growl is at the top of their vocal game.
Heavy Metal is a complex musical genre, you find a lot of musical elements inside it, isn´t just roaring singers and yet you have to have the talent to sing growl vocals, I love the power and complexity of Heavy metal.
These are some SERIOUS musicians, every single one of them, not a single one is slipping and Brittany is a BEAST, I love her You should do some Band Maid, they’re awesome, look up any of their live stuff
I did like that she addressed the amount of music theory that went into this its often overlooked in the metal genre by people that are not familiar with it. Especially power metal
I would not have listened to this song on my own, but I did enjoy the quality of music making. I never realized how much skill goes into making this type of music.
“Tonight We Ride” or “Time Stands Still” shows off her range better. Also I love that you talked about the music theory. I love this band for all of the layers they put in their songs. The subtle tempo shift towards the end and then the punch back to full speed. So good.
I enjoyed the fact that you touched on the overlooked talent with metal singers! I love to wig my friends out by playing them so many things they aren't familiar with, and really putting on display what metal vocalists are capable of! ;) Great reaction... Always enjoy the channel!!
Daniel Heiman -> probably the best technical singer in metal, you should definitely check him out. I suggest Lost Horizon-Highlander (The One), Lost Horizon-Cry of a Restless Soul, or from his newest band, Dimhav-Flame Transcendent
Glad you got to witness this band! Another band with phenomenal musicians is Leprous. Einar’s voice can heal your soul. There are so many good songs, but I guess I’d recommend “Distant Bells” to a first time listener. The man has the voice of an angel. I just want him to sing to me. Just once. Haha Loved this reaction, by the way. 😊
Come on, -Tarja´s and Marco´s version off the Nightwish - End Of An Era dvd 2008 is still a better version,- and I´m a Floor kinda guy, but Tarja is more in command and more powerful when doing Leider style / Bel Canto than Floor and compared to Marco Henk just lacks any kind of masculine power and prescense and just comes off as what he actually is,- an old man. Tarja´s and Marco´s version is in another galaxy in comparison.
@@umbriel84 Fair enough,- I´m just thinking why not go for the cherry on top of the cake right away,- and if Tara doesn´t know this version she could have no better introduction to what Tarja and Marco could actually do together vocally,- I simply find the version with Floor and Henk tame and uninteresting in comparison.
Freaking LOVE Unleash the Archers!!! I love that she uses such great, healthy technique, and someone else does the screaming for her. Plus who doesn’t love a badass girl singer???
your headbang at the end of the song made my day haha. Thanks for your videos. This is a very all around talented band I have not seen enough of them I think. As a drummer I kept having to put my hands on my knees to stop concentrating on the awesome drumming to appreciate the whole experience.
Kudos for being the first reactor I've seen pick up on the standout drum performance here. Always confuses me when people are so drum-apathetic that they don't react to the awesome fill he uses throughout this song.
I agree. The drummer is a beast and does a whole lot out of a modest kit. Also his double bass technique is fantastic. Usually you see drummers do single taps... very seldom you see double taps.
The drummer is using heel/toe technique. It is like the equivalent of alternate picking on guitar. Played with a drummer that do 16ths at over 300 bpm on double bass. Amazing!!! These guys are killer. I've checked out some of there other tunes but this one is still my favorite from them.
Tara, three suggestions for you, that are Unleash the Archers: 1) Tonight We Ride 2) Heartless World 3) Northwest Passage And I don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but Brittney Slayes and Unleash the Archers is the best thing to come out of Canada since maple syrup and hockey. And yes, Brittney's voice is ridiculously amazing. I love hearing her sing Northwest Passage, in particular.
Fantastic reaction! I've seen a lot of folks rock out to this one, but I really appreciate how much you dug into the technique behind it. I highly recommend you react to "Test Your Metal" by these guys in the future!
They are one of the best bands out there Brittany has a voice I'd describe as a female Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden her vocal pipes are insane tonight we ride by unleash the archers is amazing
Brittany Slayes is one of the best rock vocalists on earth male or female. OP the album this song is off of is barn burning vocal mastery from start to finish. I cannot recommend it enough.
Thank you Tara, you´ve just witnessed one of the best female singers around. Awesome stuff, you never get tired of. For further enjoyment, try Floor Jansen & Henk Poort - Phantom Of The Opera (Beste Zangers 2019). I bet you like it !
This is what happens when a non-metalhead hears metal and it’s actually good, lol. They have a blast and then later probably reconsider everything they thought was technically masterful music. Really enjoyed the reaction as a metal fan and musician. It’s always nice to see metal getting some attention from vocal coaches, but I appreciate how Tara reacts to songs from a musical perspective and not just like “wow, that was so good” or something like that. We’ll done, I hope to see more metal reactions!🤘🏻🔥
Fun insight into this performance - Her vocals represent the male hero protagonist of the story, "The Immortal", while the male guitarist doing the harsh vocals represents the story's *female* evil antagonist, The Matriarch. Their albums Apex and its sequel Abyss are tracked such that each song is a piece of the story following The Immortal and his enslavement by The Matriarch, and his quest to free himself and defeat her.
I love your reactions. I love your analysis and the way you break everything down for us! I would like to see what you think about a fellow named Pellek here on RU-vid singing Highlander. I am curious to see if his singing is healthy and how you feel about it. Every time I hear him do a cover he gives me goosebumps. Honestly I also believe for how great he sounds that he should be more well known. Thank you again and keep being amazing! ❤️
love this video, specially your comentari about rock/metal music, there it's definitely a lot of talent in musicians and singer in that world! Also, love the headbangin \m/. Another great metal band its "Epica", I would recomend you the song/video "Cry For The Moon"
Unleash The Archers- "Tonight We Ride" is awesome and also their cover of "Heartless World" is pretty dope. "Test your metal" has a fun 80's metal vibe.
