SoHyang is UNBELIEVABLE to me, she's the best singer out there. I hope to see you react & analyse her perfomances more. I'd recommend Lean on Me, Fate, Where Are You and Bridge Over Troubled Water. She has messed up before but it's because she had many many many sick moments where she wasn't supposed to be even singing, she's a cancer survivor and till now her immunity is pretty weak so she gets sick often, for example her "Raise Me Up' performance she had pneumonia and her doctor said she shouldn't even speak that day but she still chose to sing, also would love to see you react to that and see what's she capable off even with pneumonia.
Totally agree, she has an amazingly beautiful talent. Not just her voice and technique but the emotion she evokes from you when watching. it's always a journey watching her performances.
@@ChristianJaramillo10 At the upper range Sohyang has better control for sure and has a higher range. I would say mid and lower range Son Seung-yon is better; the fact that she broke Sohyang's record on King of Masked Singer shows her skill level. That's why I consider them to be on the same level - but I certainly have no problem with people putting one above the other
@@jamesrawlins735 Oh yes, she's good, I can't deny that, but technically SoHyang is ranked higher in everything, despite her lack of chest in low and mid notes, she can support low and mid notes without any problem. She broke her record just because SoHyang at that time sang something really different and she had a concert in the USA, she had to leave the show, oh and she was sick.
Btw! The “uh” sound you hear a lot with korean singers is actually the korean “eo” vowel. Its very similar but it’s round like the “oh” sound, but not quite there either.
Ace of Maya honestly uh and eo are the same lmao i just think uh is better when explaining to foreigners and people who know less about korean language because its easier to picture in the head contrary to eo which is used more in romaji / romanization , many people are probably unfamiliar with
오유림 😓 no not rlly? agree that “uh” is the easiest way to teach the “ㅓ” vowel, but the western “uh” is rlly not the same as “eo” in krn. It’s one of the less obvious sounds that can give you an “accent” in English or in Korean (with l/r sounds being a more obvious tell). Try doing a stereotypical valley girl line while replacing all the “uh”s w/ korean ㅓs. Or just listen to a krn who doesn’t speak eng pronounce “sun” or “nun” - or ask a foreigner to pronounce “sunhee” or “벌”. “Eo” is also usually classified as back, while “uh” is central. Sohyang is an ideal vocalist. When watching her in majority of performances, her singing sounds so natural as if she's simply speaking, Even when belting she doesn't sound stressed or taking much effort. Its natural. Which I think is important when being a performer. Your voice has to tell the story. While a lot of other singers are just singing a song and it ends up sounding too karaoke.
I was lucky to be in her concert a few days ago and men, she was outstanding. I swear that I’ve listened to Arirang alone for like a thousand times but I still got tears on my eyes and goosebumps when she sang it at the concert. So Hyang is by far the most humble yet talented artist that I’ve ever known. So happy that you react to her. Looking forward more of ur future vids.
So hyang is my favorite female vocalist ever. She amazed me every time and sometimes even left me crying. On top of that she’s really kind and down to earth. I’ve seen an interview of her where she said it’s hard for her to sing now because of her stomach is weak or something like that. She even considered to stop singing 😭
SoHyang is an amazing vocalist . She takes my breath away every time i listen to her. I literally tear up and get goose bumps listening to her performances. Not many singers have that effect on me and none quite like her. Please react to more of her stuff like Lean On Me which she sang in front of Michael Bolton on a show- he asked her to perform at his concerts over in Korea as he was so impressed by her. Also Bridge Over Troubled water is another great performance.
Holy, that's the first time I've seen you get goosebumps hahah. Your reactions are awesome man, even though I don't really know much about singing, it's quite easy to understand some concepts because you explain it in such a simple way! Keep it on =D, and please check more immortal songs, they're really awesome! Also, Take a look at "Fantastic Duo". It's a similar show, where they take people with no proper training to sing with their idols, I'd suggest the one with Taeyang - Eyes, Nose and Lips to start with =]
Today I learned that what I thought SoHyang did was already amazing but when you described technically all of the conscious thought and work put into sounding like she does I'm just stunned at the artistry and mechanics of it all. She is most definitely a master! Thank you for your informative and entertaining video - keep up the good work! : )
I love this performance, it's one of my favorites from her along with Breathe. Your videos are so educational I love them so much, I learned so much about vowel choices and which ones are easier to use while watching them. Sohyang is also a vocal teacher (at a Korean university I believe). She's a gospel singer, has been one for more than 20 years.
Enjoyed your video very much and glad you took the time to react to Sohyang's Arirang Alone. Appreciate how you offer your observation from the perspective of instructive feedback on vocal techniques. It gives laymen like me some technical confirmation of this performance. People always remember Sohyang's iconic BB5 in this stage but I was glad to hear you talk about her control so much, including her use of crescendo, light mix, and how connected her voices are for transition. Sohyang may be the finest technician when it comes to vocal skills I will ever know. The only time people comments on her misses (maybe too strong a word here - some imperfections perhaps) happens due to fatigue or health condition. She is a cancer survivor and continues to work hard to protect her health and voice. I hope you will get to react to more of her amazing performances. Not necessarily a technical aspect but Sohyang is unique in the way she convey emotion with her voice, I recommend you take a look of her iconic cover of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C6iHh4yBxCo.html
Thank you for reacting to So Hyang :) I love her voice so much, she always gives me the chills when she sings. I love your explanations, they are easy to follow/understand and really interesting. I hope you check out more of her songs :D
My daughter graduated with a degree in musical theater. They hammered theory into her. Now she doesn't enjoy music because she hears math. I wonder if you have the same experience focusing on mouth and vocal chords vowels etc. No matter. I love what you do and learn so much.
Wow~ Soo fantastic, emotional and beautiful ! She must be came from heaven ! She is an angel. So Hyang is the best singer in this world ! Now early in the morning. Thanks.
I. Love. You! You are the greatest person out there critiquing her right now! Very detailed and your reaction explains a lot about what SoHyang is capable of!
I keep coming back to this video cause A) I love the song so much B) I love her version of it C) and I love you analyzing it. I'm "only" a foreigner living in Korea, so I can't say I've lived with the song my whole life, but back in 2015, I practiced dancing to it and performed at the different palaces in Seoul. This song is deep to my heart and being a history fanatic, the story behind it makes it even more worthy of goosebumps, when listening. Once again, I cried while hearing her sing. Thank you for this video and giving me the chance to come back and re-watch it as many times as I want to!
New subbie~ i really love sohyang and I'm so glad you enjoyed her performance. It's so cool to hear you analyze the performance and I thought the mouse in cathedral comparison was really interesting.
I don't know much about vocal techniques, so the fact the vowel "uh" being easier was new to me! I'm such in awe of Sohyang's voice, I just love watching other people reacting the same way too, I really hope you'll do more reactions to her in the future!! thanks :D
Love the reaction! Please react to more SoHyang covers! Here's a few suggestions to start: Bridge Over Troubled Water Dear Love Mona Lisa You Raise Me Up Fate Everyone Where Are You Breathe
thank you for posting these videos. it's always an incredible experience to have someone talk about something with such expertise and passion for the craft. this made my night.
I really love watching reaction Videos by vocal coaches because you can really see their happiness en excitement when they reacted too videos with a person who truly is an amazing Singer.
Yeeeees she's a queen! And I love watching you explain a lot of things that she does, really interesting! I'm going to repeat myself but her performances at King of Masked Singer are BOM she singed different types of songs and all of them gave me chills like "dear love" "breath" "mona lisa" "hug me" Keep the good work, I'm actually learning a lot!
I love how everyone who reacts to her gets goosebumps and is really surprised. What I like more of this reaction is the explaining. It's my first time watching your reaction and I gotta say I like it.
PLEASE REACT TO EXO Chen and Baekhyun REALLY DIDN'T KNOW stage. You'll be amazed. And also the song you're asking for in your last reaction of them is 'DROP THAT' in their EXOluXiOn Concert in Tokyo Dome. Please react to their songs in that concert. You'll be amazeeed~ Good job with the reaction tho. I learned a loooot
I love that you reviewed Sohyang's vocals because her voice is beautiful. The Bb5 never fails to amaze me, her breath control and resonance is very prominent feature of hers. I'm glad you analyzed the small details in her voice that really shine out. The fact that she hit a note that high in her mixed voice with clear control is amazing.
Wow. Your breaking down her techniques are so helpful. I especially liked the part where you said the ‘AH’ is much easier to go high. Just for pleasure, you should try the ‘Mona Lisa’ also by Sohyang. You’ll probably be astonished ‘cuz people usually do when listening to Sohyang. Thanks for such wonderful video.
I really love how you reacted to this song, because you are constantly smiling. I think it just makes it beautiful, how much you are moved by it. Thank you.
👍🏻👍🏻 Great! I really really love your reaction. You don’t miss anything. 👍🏻😄 I highly recommend you to analyze “Everyone - So Hyang” in Immortal song 2 show. It is the song that show what she able to do with her voice. For me, It was the most impressive performance of her in this show.
I loved the technical education you gave, giving concise detail and analogy without talking in a manner too technical for majority of non-musician based people. Learned to use more "uhs" in place of "ah's" in points of struggle from your analysis you gave as a tip as well as "understanding" that good spot right "above the first bridge" that is a person's sweet spot. Totally using these tips
I enjoy listening to and marveling at your ability to instruct and explain, your knowledge of musicality and anatomy is insane. I'm fascinated by your videos, and your compassion. I don't know if I should thank your mama or what, but somebody raised a kind soul. I'm sharing your video link...others who I know need this/your talents in their lives.
I almost cry luckily your comment got me suck it up and hold my tears. But this songs is so beautiful plus her voice omg,i cant express it enough. Its so wonderful ❤
Ok so far your video is miles better than the other vocal teacher videos on sohyang I've watched. You actually explained shit and the others talk like you should already know certain things about singing.
