It is a fun coaster, but it suffers what Kingda Ka suffers. Sure it is great, but you have a much better Intamin a few hundred feet away. Also night rides on this thing are fantastic due to the lack of lighting in the area behind Volcano, it's pitch black back there.
Nice review, Taylor! My boys were longing to ride it, but we had to bail out of line because it went down. We are sad that we didn’t get to ride it, but the ride looked very cool.
Spot on review. I remember when the ride first opened and rollbacks were common. It's a very intense launch which I simply can't endure as I'm getting older. I can ride flight of fear all day long, but that flat track launch is wicked awesome!
I always went to busch gardens for many years but when I got more into roller coasters I started going to kings dominion, this was the time when they closed volcano and never reopened it. I wish they would have kept it open longer so I could have gotten at least one ride on it.
I remember the year it opened. If it wasn't opening opening day for Volcano, it was close to it. My friend and I worked at the park, and heard it was open. After our shifts, we got in line. 1 train running, and they only had every other seat attached to the train! We waited 5 hours to ride - was it worth the wait then? YES! That was the longest I ever waited for a ride.
2:45 no, I totally get that. The sound of these Intamin LIMs/LSMs is just amazing. The second launch on Taron can be heard from all over the area. I was thoroughly shocked the first time I heard that: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IsDcHwDmbys.html
In my opinion it looks like a 6/10 or 7/10. The launches look fun and so do the inversions but it's to short, has bad capacity and doesn't do to much. It still looks like a great ride and I love the Volcano theme. Can you parody I305 and Levi when you go to Canada's Wonderland. That way you would have parodied all N.America gigas
I would never rate it so low. It's not the most thrilling roller coaster out there, nor the longest, but if you take it at dusk, the viewer coming out of the coaster is not only breathtaking but you have a second to enjoy it more than anywhere else in the park, all while spinning upside down.
I highly recommend riding the Volcano near sunset. The lines are often shorter and because of the leisurely pace of the second inversion, you have a moment to think, "Ah! Pretty."
Ugh the capacity really is terrible on this ride. It's mind boggling that I'm usually able to walk right onto I305 but for volcano I'm looking at at least a 45 minute to an hour wait on a GOOD day.
Every time i think about Volcano, I think about that voice doing the ride spiel "Please secure all loose aaahhticles. Loose aaahhticles are not permitted on dis ride"
Capacity was worse. In it's opening year didn't it run with only every other row installed, so there were only 4 rows? There are pictures of it online.
when i went to kd, it was very rainy and every single roller coaster was a walk on. easily the lowest park attendance ive ever had. i had a great experience. the rain stung on intmidator but what eves
I've asked this before but don't remember getting an answer (apologies if I've forgotten): can Kings Dominion be comfortably done in one day (all the coasters and major rides)? Tx.
+TheGamingHub Thanks for the reply! I actually just went last Wednesday. It was the least crowded major park I have ever experienced. I got there before it opened, and they let you into the park as far as the Eiffel Tower. Then at opening time I headed to Volcano first, where there was no line. There was then no line on rides for the rest of the day (Backlot had a 15 minute wait and the log ride 30 min), so we hit everything going at a comfortable pace, and even got in some repeat rides. It was amazing.
They should do two things one have a timer because you can't see how long the line is and two they should add a third train but do the loading and unloading like flight of fear also hope to see you at kd I live 45 minutes away so it is my home park too
The coaster used to load and unload like flight of fear. I don't think its possible to add a third train to the coaster cause it was never designed to have 3 trains, so its my understanding that they can't just add a third train.
Man this coaster was so underwhelming for me, the beginning had me really hyped but then as soon as you come out the top it's just boring. The beginning was cool, but not cool enough to make it a good one truck pony like a dive coaster or an intamin launch.
It's a 3/10 for me It's incredibly rough has terrible capacity the second half sucks the durations sucks the first launch is okay the second launch is good the turn into the second launch is awful. The inversions suck the theming sucks and worse of all the operators suck. This coaster isn't good in my opinion. The second half is equivalent to a kiddie coaster in intensity. The first half is a 6/10 the second half is a 2/10 overall I hate this ride
Stokes The Red Panda how does the theming suck? It isn't a bad headbanger, the first and second launch are great, the inversions aren't meant to be great, and the operators weren't bad for me. You must be a negative person
Funny Moments and Videos firstly the capacity sucks and you couldn't debate that. And what do you mean by the inversions "aren't meant to be good?"Why are they there if they aren't good? And the theming isn't good becuase it try's and fails miserably the volcano looks like a construction site the supports make the volcano look incredibly ugly. Further more every single time I've ridden it I get bad headbanging. I'm not blinded by Intamin fanboyism and I can see when a ride is bad. And that's not me being negative that's me saying my opinion.
Stokes The Red Panda I'm not even an intamin fanboy lmao. The headbanging wasn't bad for me and of course the volcano has supports in it. The inversions are just there for an element while going around the volcano.
Funny Moments and Videos but couldn't there be elements that are better? And then many times I've ridden it in multiple days it has bad headbanging and the supports could look better but no paramount had to butcher it
