This is a nice car, but you don't actually gain all of the kilometers you claim by looking at the "guess-o-meter", rather it makes new estimates as you go, based on your recent driving style. You have to look at the power meter to get a fair understanding of how much electricity you have regenerated downhill and by applying the brakes.

I like this E-Golf the only problem I have with it in the UK is price in the USA they are cheaper to buy.

Nobby I’ve been there done it Pros,drive is fabulous,fuel economy speaks for itself Cons depreciation huge, winter time terrible range, price tag huge, infrastructure terrible in Eire, To much time thinking and gauging the limits of the car. Boot a bit smaller than average golf I’ve swapped back to a diesel a6 Quattro and drive free as a bird and the extra fuel cost is worth the freedom and head space of not worrying about anything and every little thing on in the car

I’m ordering one of these for delivery in May. If anybody is considering doing the same you can upgrade those awful stock alloys to a more aesthetically pleasing 17 inch alloy which look much much better

Lengthen it to the Sportwagen size, which would allow for more room for a larger battery capacity, and you really have something. Raise it a bit and add dual motor AWD and call it the Alltrack EV, and then you're really talking. But then again, I own an Alltrack - so I'm biased.

VW makes great cars, I truly like my e-Golf but I don't like the fact it's been at the dealership for over a week waiting to be towed 4 states away to be serviced because there are not technicians who are certified to work on electric VWs. VW has to get it together on this especially with ID.3's coming out.

tris7 assuming you’re in Ireland, get an ESB charger at your home and you can drive any of them!

It’s simply untrue for you to suggest that braking doesn’t regen. How many kilometres have you covered in an EV?

Nobby On Cars he didn’t say it doesn’t Regen. It just doesn’t Regen as much. The remaining range estimate is based on several factors. One is remaining charge, which will increase slightly as you roll downhill. The other factor, which is probably the biggest in this case, is energy consumption over the last miles driven. When you are rolling downhill this average will obviously drop significantly and the range estimate will increase. This also happens in my Volvo diesel. I once saw an estimated range of over 1500 miles on a single tank after topping up the tank at very high altitude and basically coasting down to sea level.

E Golf will solved the unreliable Vw TSI engine and also the lousy DSG transmission.....which caused a lot of trouble to Vw owners globally.

This car looks like an ancient relic compared to Teslas. Tiny inside, incredibly small storage room, ancient technology in the front, bad range/efficiency, looks like a half car half grandma van? I just don't get why people think this is a good car? Is it fun to drive?

It's a Golf. Simple! It also costs nearly half the price of even the cheapest Tesla in Ireland so that's another factor.

short range, no battery thermal management, slow charging, expensive. bad car. look at kia e-niro or hyundai kona instead.

You're comparing cars that are much newer. My iMac is quicker than my Macbook because it's older technology and that's the way it will keep going with EVs for quite some time yet.

@@NobbyOnCars the e-golf you can buy in 2019: 36kwh battery, 125miles range, $32k vs the kia e-niro you can buy in 2019: 64kwh battery, 235 miles range, $33k, and the kia is more spacious, has proper battery management and can charge at 80kw dc.

@@user-ch8dz5dl6e It's the same argument for older tech versus newer though. Totally agree that the Golf is expensive, in Ireland a Kona is going to cost you nearly €39,000 also.

@@NobbyOnCars in a nutshell i'm saying the e-golf is a bit crap compared to its current competition. the way i see it is it was handicapped by poor design choices even in 2017 and i consider it hopeless in 2019.

Lots of electric cars being sold these days. I understand that they don’t make sense for *all* buyers at this point but many of us just take small trips and electric cars make a lot of sense. So yea...it’s not a novelty.
