What little I've heard of him playing Rachmaninoff makes me wish he would do more. Some of the best interpretations I've come across.

Absolutely astonishing! I thought no one would ever play Op. 32, No. 10 better than Richter, but of course, one should never bet against Volodos. Every time he plays a long chord, it continues ringing as if the strings in the piano never slow down their vibrations. The way he brings out the F#'s in the LH starting at 12:20 and then G's and then D's just constantly reminding us of the gravitational pull of those Russian bells, the echo of the chords in the melodic line. Also, this is the best rendition of Op. 3, No. 2 I've heard. Every group of three eight note chords has so much longing, and of course, the FFF passage of alternating chords that brings us out of the middle sections sounds like he's playing single notes. His ability to bring out inner voices while never sacrificing attention to the melodic line is on full display. Bravo, Maestro! Thank you so much for uploading these and so soon into this season, masterofsynapsis. Your work is much appreciated!

You’re welcome. Used my outdated IPhone to record so the quality isn’t great but I hope people can still get an idea of how he played. Oh and that first Rachmaninov prelude, I have never heard anyone play it like this. Absolutely stunning.

"Richter" perhaps, but you won't say "better than Weissenberg's" cold uncompromising unemotional power and precision. Volodos here achieves sonorities previously attained only by Horowitz (is it the piano's 'voicing'?) Of course, Volodos takes huge artistic license with tempi, rubati….yet pulls it all off effortlessly, yes, the finale of Op 3, No 2 is just off the charts! Only Katsaris rivals in exposing hidden buried notes and phrases usually overlooked. This recording is a great achievement, Synapsis....BRAVO!

@@nestorar -- Truly, and thanks for the introduction to Maestro Nelson Freire! His performance has many stunning moments and his ferocious energy recalls Jorge Prats....Greetings from México!

Tompiano999 You’re welcome. Now I’m angry with myself that I didn’t record the Schubert. But I still got the best part of the concert. I was also happy that he didn’t play virtuosic pieces as encores because that would be totally out of place. Can’t wait to hear his next cd.

ive seen him live 3 times, will be my fourth time next year, but its astonishing he finds new things in fairly familiar repertoire which even the masters of the past did not discover in their interpretations. its kind of hard to put into words. but what a sound volodos has, so rich and colourful, the touch is heavenly, pianissimos has so much depth. who else can do this? volodos has that unique true rachmaninoff sound like no other.

@@Tompiano999 I am a great fan Volodos, he is my fav pianist for many ears and as time goes on, he remains my fav pianist. But, where did you get that with "true unique rach sound"? Based upon what, do you judge that? Did you had breakfest with Rach or how?

hey relax mate, its only my opinion kinda hard to explain tbh, just ive seen volodos live 4 times and he has such a rich deep sound when playing rachmaninoff which i think you need when playing him thats all. theres enough recordings of rachmaninoff and others playing his music to compare interpretations and compare sound quality etc of different players, volodos has the best sound of anyone ive heard.
