I did an online search for how to fix failing retractor. Before attempting to repair I found this useful info on removing the belt on Mathews Volvo Website:
www.matthewsvo...
however the all important information about winding the clock spring retractor unit was a bit confusing hopefully my video will help you load the spring.
Try to avoid letting the spring jump right out of the seat and get loose! It will be very hard to get it back in if this happens. I used my left thumb to hold the spring down while I wound the counter clock wise - you should see 5/6 winds before you push the white part down into lock position. You can only wind the spring one way - if you look carefully and try to understand how the end of the spring has a wee tab that locks into the white plastic piece - you can only wind it one direction!
Good luck. Remember disconnect battery first! before unplugging the tensioner. You may not need to remove the back seat to get the belt out.
Playing with seat belts is serious business your health and the health and safety of others depends on correct installation - be careful in removing and reinstalling correctly and if you have any doubts or hit complications please seek professional advice.
