The video showed you can hide the cables in the rubber trim, really part of the door, not the windscreen. With this knowledge I have done a “soft” install. Which is very easy, as you don’t take things apart, and is very quick. I also think the cables are hidden much better than the method shown. From the camera take the wires to the top of the windscreen on the driver’s side, Hide the wires as you go towards the door. Hide the wire in the rubber trim we have talked about all the way to the driver’s seat. In the plastic trim by the side of the driver’s seat there is a small valley. Push the wire in this, securing it with a small piece of Sellotape. From here take the wire under the seat, under the rear mat, and then plug it into the USB C connection on the rear of the tunnel console. Job done. I already had a USB-to-USB C adaptor. You can also buy USB type C splitter which would enable you to power the dashcam and would also give you another type C socket, to power or charge anything else you wished. I used a 5 meter long lead for the dashcam.
Thanks! For the 2 secound clip which shows you running the wire down the rubber trim of the A piller. I new it was not possible running the wire next to the screen (as you do on the top) without using clips.
I’m doing similar but will be making a short bridging loom between 12v socket and original loom with T out to camera loom so no need to cut into original loom
Thanks for the heads up I'm just about to fit one in mine xc40 I've had the kit for about a month now I was holding of the installation but my new ec40 is taken ages to arrive will I have to do anything different with that with it been fully electric?
No, these cams are not surveillance cameras. Although they state they can run on constant power the reality is to many cars with flat batteries. The camera is supposed to shut down if power starts to drop but is not the case.
I have just purchased a front and rear dash cam for my Citroën C4 Grand Picasso. But I need to connect to the brake light wire. I can't find any videos/forums etc, on how to do this. Can you help please?
@@stephaniefield1863 Easy way is to find the reverse bulb in the rear cluster and follow the contact path from its centre connection to the wiring loom plug, you will then know which colour wire to splice in to for reverse.
Can you still use the 12v plug to charge a laptop while on the road? OR will that cause problems if you are charging a laptop and running your dash cam from the same 12v source?
@@PJsprojects Thanks! I was just concerned that running the dash cam and charging a laptop would be too much voltage to be used from one source. But if it were, I guess no one would be using this method.
Good video PJ. It helped enormously with with V40 2017. Thank you. Just one question: as you’re tapping into the live on your lighter/acc connection, couldn’t you also tap into the lighter earth wire instead of grounding it elsewhere? It’s what I did so as to keep the two connections in the same place to make later removal a bit easier.
