saw a hack and it said to open a little in hole as close to the throttle body and spray carburetor cleaner using the straw that comes with the can while the car running, when finished with the can put a screw on the hole and take the car for a spin. It worked great for me and saved me 6 hours of my life. The car now runs smooth as when new
You can also put the key and just switch. Then place a weight on the gas pedal and it will open the throttle body, with no need to put anything inside it.
I just did this and, because the screw on the hose to the throttle body was orientated in such a way I could access it, I didn't have to remove any pipes. So just one screw and it popped off. 10 min job.
I’m looking to buy an ‘04 XC90 awd with 230k miles...for 3,000. The biggest problem when I test drove it was a rough idle at a red light. The idle did get a bit rougher but not too much rougher. Also, the test drive was about 20 minutes behind the wheel. When I drive it, I noticed the acceleration was really smooth, tranny really smooth, braking was decent for a heavy car...I’m watching videos to get a clear understanding of this is a smart purchase or not. Any further info on my situation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks & much love from Texas.
This are fairly solid cars, just make sure the cambelt and water pump have been changed and if the idling is rough then it could be a problem with the throttle body that needs cleaning but could also be something else considering the km in the car.. The one in the video also had a noisy drive shaft.
I'm having to replace mine. Do you happen to know how many bolts hold the throttle body to the manifold? I've removed 4 bolts, but either there are more bolts or it is sticking to it.
Hey! So our 04 volvo xc90 2.5 went into limp mode last summer. We took the throttle off and cleaned it. It worked greaf after but over the winter we put it in storage. Took it out last week and everhtbing was fine. Then this mornjng after stopping at a store got back in and started it up and it was in limp mode with engine light on. Let it sit awhile and then it started back up fine. I ran my obd2 and the code is the same as last year. Theottle body actuater stuck open. Im thinking the throttle is bad or the computer... any suggestions? Have you replaced theottles amd reset the comp? If so whats the process like? The vehicle has been great to us and only has 165k on it. Since it starts up again after sitting thats where im confused.
To be honest I haven’t change a throttle body on one of this. But usually once you change it you can just clear fault codes and should be ok. Some need adaptation but it’s usually newer models. I don’t think the computer is faulty. It’s more likely that the throttle body needs cleaning again or replacing.
