Very Helpful video I pulled mine over the weekend took just over 2 hours, the floor jack trick was the way to go for getting it out of the frame. I don't remember if it was in the video or not but to anyone getting ready to tackle this, there are 3 wires that run from the bottom of the motor, up the center frame and connect to the bike harness near where the rear of the fuel tank would be, make sure and disconnect these, fish them down and zip tie so they are out of the way while you pull motor. How did that go? Any advise? I want to remove my 1100 vstar engine to clean and paint it. I've wanted to do it for years but have been a bit nervous about it. (Have done cams, starter clutch, fourth set of pipes, carbs out 20 times)

Im rather scared of removing my rear wheel, afraid it will never get to ride again, it looked so simple here.. is there any guides around for removing the rear wheel?
I am trying to size this job up, I think I can Remove the Engine, But The Wiring Harness Scares The Hell Out Of me, In fact I'm Replacing It As Well Because I have a Short or Bad Wire In the Turn Signals and It's Pissing Me Off, How Many Connectors Will I have To Face From The Harness Will I have To Face? Oh and I think I will Remove The Swing Arm.
All is doable and not to complicated. What you have to do is use painters tape to Mark what connector is what in both sides of the connection...if you don’t know what is the connection for, just use numbers (create your own code) Swing arm is a simple one bolt deal Good luck !
maustarman,, The time has come. I noticed when you removed the engine, I didn't see any wiring harness on the frame, talk to me! When I get all the harness disconnected from the engine, it can be removed (wiring harness)?

Hey! thanks for the video, amazing stuff... I've got a question for you, on my Dragstar (V-Star) 650 there's a little leak which seems to come from the top of the second cylinder (the back one). Could it be the valves or cylinder head? Is this something that I can check without removing the engine? It's a very small leak to be honest, but it drops into the exhaust and it smells a bit sometimes. Thanks again!
Hey Ramiro Where you are describing the leak it can be one of 2 things...or maybe 3 :) 1- the exhaust valve cover o-ring 2-the Cam cover o-ring 3- the crankcase breather hose might have disconnected from its plug and it leaks a bid from under the chrome head cover. All of them easy to fix and no need to remove the engine

PS: I will have to remove the carbs in order to remove the valve covers and check those suggestions, correct? (haven't looked at the bike yet, I'm at work)
+Ramiro Tarrico Villafañe These bikes are pretty simple to work on...and working on your own bike gives you a sense of pride it makes you feel good :) No need to remove the carbs for any of the procedures posted... The valve cover you will be checking is the *exhaust not the intake and that one immediately on top of the header pipe
Absolutely, I have always worked on my cars. This is my first bike, the principles are kind of the same, just getting used to the smaller spaces and clearances. That's why I was wondering if I needed to remove the carbs or not. As I said, I need to go home and check the bike. I will follow the recommendations.. thanks!
Obviously.. lol. But if it's just a minor oil leak, the engine will still run. Just a tip for anyone out there trying to D.Y.I. When using a torch to heat bolts, use a small flame and concentrate it on the nut.
When I need just a bit of heat I use those refillable butane pencil torches. They don't last long some times so I have 3 of them in the toolbox just in case. They're not really very hot but the flame is smaller than a regular torch snf less apt to burn something you don't want burnt. LOL
