Nice work Thomas and probably a good idea to separate the drive axle as it looked like the engine went up quite a bit. Very good shot of the rear mount at timeline 4:50. Sure not easy working on that VR6. Take care Thomas...
This is an awesome vid. Was wondering if a bad water pump makes a terrible sound, as my VR6 is making this loud almost grinding sound? Not sure what symptoms come with a bad water pump.
A bad pump will make a growling sound (bearing) and the pulley might wobble a bit. The other symptom of a bad pump can be a coolant leak. If the pump impeller is broken, then there will be no heat inside the car and the engine will run hot / overheat.
Loctite is always a good idea, but should be ok without it. Bolts don't usually come loose if they were tightened correctly... I've been known to use anti-seize instead of loctite, to make removal easier in the future.
I have reduced the water mark in my newest videos, can you confirm that it is now "better / more acceptable"? Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
I'll find out tomorrow whether or not the CV axle has to be disconnected! The B4 platform is nowhere near as friendly about it as the A3 seems to be, so if I can avoid it, I will. ;)
i did the job yesterday without removing the axle - its a non issue power steering flex hose into the pump caught on the front rad frame and drip leaked out a bit, but thats my fault probably cause the clamp was loose from previous work i was doing (just rebuilt my entire front suspension 4lug -5lug) so just keep an eye on PS hoses/AC hoses. and you're good to go regardless the video helped me, thx dude!!
+Thomas EXOVCDS Thanks they are pretty price for bolts and they don't look like stead bolts. I'm in the process of replacing my motor don't want any rework.
Jamie Mosteller Sorry... no timing chain video yet. If you have a Bentley service manual... all the info should be in there. Also great DIY articles on vwvortex.
Although it has 2 camshafts in the cylinder head... it is not a DOHC system. One camshaft is for cylinders 1, 3 & 5 and the other camshaft is for cylinder 2, 4 & 6. Each camshaft controls the intake & exhaust valves for its cylinders. A DOHC engine has separate camshafts for intake & exhaust.
Thomas EXOVCDS awesome vids man I appreciate the effort 🖒just one question I got my motor mounts off but the motor isn't lifting I've even tried prying the mounts apart and it won't budge 😕any info would be greatly appreciated
