VW A4: Power Windows not working 

You my friend are a lifesaver! I've been chasing wiring and checking voltages all day long! I checked that circuit breaker for continuity and it was there but replacing it with a fuse was the trick. I put a new breaker in and walla, FIXED! After checking all voltages and connections to CCM it boiled down to this Breaker. Thanks for the information, I hope others can find this video with the same problem.

I held my positive and negative cable together for 20 mins ,carefully slid back on poles at same time and BINGO-all went to reset.Everything works great!!!!! This method saved me a pile of money.Club members should try this if you suffer from same problems after battery disconnect.It is safe and it works Anytime any system on these cars is acting confused, do a capacitive discharge. It works very well lol. We do it quite a bit at the dealer for when a car just doesnt seem right.

You seem to be the most informed person I've read. I bought the $100 manual and that hasn't helped , so I am now reaching out to you. I just bought a 2002 VW Passat Wagon 2.8. No windows will roll up or down. Let me re-phrase that. I can try and every once and a while the drivers front or passengers may move an 1/8" up or down. But that is it. No sun roof or rear hatch release. All lights light up so I can see power going to the switches. I tested the main switch control unit in the drivers door, and four separate wires had over 13 volts DC. I Pulled the carpet up under the drivers floor and it looks like brand new. So didn't the CCM. No broken or frayed wires anywhere. No sign of water having ever been in there. I pulled the cover off the CCM and didn't notice anything burnt on the circuit board. I also checked to see if there was a ground to chassis, and it did Ohm out as to getting a good connection. Also, the door locks work with no issues. But is the light beside the drivers door lock supposed to flash all the time? So I do not know where to look next. I have an OBDii tool, but I don't think that will help me here. Any, any help would be much appreciated....

2021 and this helped me save a couple hundreds of dollars. I checked every fuse on the side of the panel, checked the wires that go through the door, I was loosing my mind, when I checked for this fuse it wasn’t there, didn’t even knew it existed. Thank you!

I know this is an older video, but this still helped me. I know this was for an mk4. However, this was still applicable to me and my b5.5 passat! Very same conditions. Pulled the breaker and found a boat load of rust and corrosion. So I bought a lilse fuse slot cleaner and breaker. Sure enough! I've got windows again! Thanks for what you do for everyone!

Thanks very much for this video, I've been having problems with my windows not working for weeks had checked all the wiring, and the ccm and could not find a solution I did not know that there was another hidden fuse windows working fine now thanks.

You are the man thank you so much I just bought a 2008 Volkswagen Beetle with 63000 Miles for $500 that has been sitting for over 4 years due to a death in a friends family they wanted it gone there was a definite moisture problem inside the car that they knew about because the driver side window was left down about 1/16th of a inch not enough to get rain in the car but it did build up a lot of moisture basically nothing was working in the car after I put a battery in it because it blew all the fuses and I had to dry the car out completely them replaced damn near every fuse but the power windows did not work after everything else started working I've been trying to hunt down the problem for the last 3 days i was thinking it was the Comfort Control Module because it can cause the windows not to work but I was hearing the clicking in both doors and that's when I started to search the problem and I found your video it was the exact problem the circuit breaker I did like you did and put a fuse in it and it worked and I looked through all my bug guts/parts box and I found a good circuit breaker and I put it in there and everything works perfectly thank you so much for your video it's saved me a lot of time 😉

Nice video! The large fuse was the issue on my 2009 Beetle. I unplugged the fuse, found no continuity problem, but plugging it in the Windows now work. Perhaps it was not fully seated, perhaps it is a harness issue. Regardless I know where the issue is now. Thanks for saving me lots of $$$!

Hello Thomas, I have a 2005 Golf GTI 1.8T, my widows, locks and interior light are not working. Checked the fuse/f38 is good, so do you think is the circuit breaker?

I have the same problem on audi a4 b5 1998.. only in my case not workink only left side windows (both) and also relay is clicking in all doors.. but in the right side (passenger side) windows are working fine... aaand alsoo... after a few weeks that central door locking button on door panel also stoped working... sunroof is working, side mirror adjustment is working too, interior lights is working too.. central lock via remote are working good..

I have a 98 beetle. Switches dont roll down either window. Power wires in driver's side door have power and switches are illuminated. Driver's side window rolls up and down when key is turned in the door lock.

My Mk4 passenger side window will roll up but not down. I swapped out the regulator but it seems do the same thing. I haven't replaced the circuit breaker you changed. Any suggestions to what my issue may be? Thanks for your help...🙏🙏🙏

Hey Thomas, I have a 1999 Passat and my front passenger side window is not working. I have took the door panel apart 3 times now and I have purchased 2 different motors for the window , although when I try to roll the window down I do hear the click you comment about in this video. although with or without the motor being connected to the window I did not see any spinning take place. Please do help, I myself thought it would have been some sort of relay but I read comments you made that there is no separate relay for the right window. I've got an interesting one for you. 98 Passat, aftermarket stereo. Can't read obd2 codes but power is there. The customer had attempted to charge the battery, but swapped positive and negative. Lights flashing on instrument cluster. Pulled radio, still can't scan. Pulled ABS module(it was flashing). Still no scan. All fuses are good. Where should I look next?

I have a 05 Volkswagen convertible the doors are locked the windows are up and I can't get into the car is there any secret way to get in other than cutting the roof I tried the key to unlock it the lights flash something happens in the door but the door won't open someone please help but the door won't open anyone with suggestions how to open those doors or lower the windows and the great for grateful to you I have tried the combinations of turning the key to the lock to unlock lock unlock on a thing happens is the driver's window drops down a half an inch and then if you don't open the door it goes back up

hello Thomas Thank you for the schematics. I was able to troubleshoot the power windows down to the comfort control module under the driver's seat which was water damaged. I still cannot get the gas lid to open. Is that motor controlled by 12V or by digital output by the control unit? Checking the output on pin 3 and 9 from the control module to fuel door motor, I am not getting any output on my voltmeter. Putting 12 V to the motor, it does not work. Is it a stepper motor? Also, where is the multifunction transmission position switch located? I am getting 12V coming off the ignition when the key is in start position but no output to the starter. thanks Conrad

Hi Thomas, I have an Audi 2007 A4 2.0T. My windows don't work, the sunroof or interior lights do not work either oh and the central locking too. I was told that it could be that it got wet. I had a mechanic check the fuses and they are all working fine.Do you think the problem could be fixed without having to change the entire CCM as a mechanic suggested to me?

My back windows don’t work but my front do there’s no clicking or anything coming from them checked all the fuses an they where all good

Hello, my 05 Jetta is having a similar issue with just the passenger side front window which is stuck in the down position. When I use the switch I hear a clicking noise coming from the window but there is no movement. Do you think this is also a fuse related issue or is it a wiring problem? Where do you suggest I look to try and fix this?

hello great job as usual.. got vw mk5 and both of wing mirror indicator stop working i ooen the mirror and check the lights and they r working as they led and both gone together it should be the other fault open the passenger door panel and check the wiring and conector they been fit ok and no cutting on any wire going to mirror and i scan the car with vcds but no any fault indicate them either so what r u suggest my next step would be ? thank u

Hi I have this same problem. When I tried to change the circuit breaker. It was hot to the touch I ended up burning my finger. But I’m pretty sure that mean that the wires are probably touching somewhere but I can’t seem to find anything. Any ideas?

Question. My driver side controls work for all windows. But the only one that has issues is the rear passenger window. I can role down the window from the drivers side controls. But I can’t ever role it up.

Hi. Windows on caddy live driver and passenger does not work. They however do work when I continioisly press the remote control. Also central locking also works when you lock the vehicles. Help would be appreciated. Thanks

broski is that little circuit breaker in AutoZone on this passat sunroof also does nothing and if trying to lock from outside locks but unlocks open really fast by itself alarm fob seems to also be reprogrammed cuz it makes nothing when pressed only light in remote blinks red

Could that same fuse cause only the driver's window not to operate? I'm having an issue where my driver's front window only works after the first ignition of the vehicle, then it won't work at all. All other windows work fine from the switch. I've replaced the switch itself and the main fuse in the fuse box is in good condition too. It's a 2016 Jetta. Thanks for any suggestions.

@thomas i check same step you did buy my audi. a4 doesnt have a fuse on my module. it was wet when i checked under carpet had stain. 2003 audi a4 1.8t automatic. my interior light wont turn on either only door light which is wierd.

lighting was not helpful but would this be the relays near the battery in front of the driver on a 2000 Jetta? Anyone have an answer? No alarm light, no power windows from inside vehicle. Key works on outside to open and close but again, no alarm light. New switch control.

Hello great information I have a 2004 Audi A4 with some electrical issues the sunroof and all four power are not working. The car will not start when I check the wire going to starter upon turning the key to start position it momentarily show 7v then drop to zero volt. If I turn the key to the on position and put 12v to the start solenoid the car start so the starter is good. Also the engine fans are not working when get up to temperature or when the AC is witch on. can you please help or do you have a schematic for the different circuits?

I have a 2001 bettle. Both switches on drivers side don't work for either window (driver side window doesnt open at all) But the switch passenger side operates the passenger window. Could this be the same problem as shown in this video? Thanks

I checked down there under the steering wheel panel and mine has two circuit breakers (both are green and original) and not one like yours. I replaced one and switched it and still windows did not work... The fuses are fine. Any thoughts?

Ahhh.. I see you are using pro demand, much better then the factory layout I think.. let me guess this is a mkiv body style and the sun roof drain get plugs causing water to leak inside?

What fuse number are you removing for the power windows and sunroof under the dash? I can not tell in your video. In my a4 2008 the sunroof and power windows are not working. I had my mom driving the car and she failed to mention it to me since she could just use the AC. I don't have a book and can;t seem to find it online in a PDF.

Hi Thomas! I just bought a used 2015 VW New Beetle. Over the last 2 days, the windows responsiveness have significantly degraded & now have stopped working correctly from the drivers side door switches. The windows can suddenly (without pressing on the switch) go down and up, super randomly. I can also hear a clicking nose combination when the car is running. Could this simply be a fuse issue? Since I do hear the clicking from the motor? Any insight would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I did what you did in the video to my 03 Audi A4 and my fuses were perfect. None of my windows go up but I do get the clicking as if they want to. Any suggestions?

Got a tricky one here, 2001 Jetta wagon born in 03/01has the 2.0 manual tranny. I had the ignition replaced and programmed with new keys (new key fob wouldn't program to lock or unlock). Now everytime I start the car the alarm goes off. Was told it was a bad ccm, replaced the ccm and still the same issues. Also the drivers window switches wont control anything except drivers window for about 10 minutes after negative cable is pulled, after 10 minutes the switch dies and I have to pull negative again to "reset" the use of the window. Sunroof works, all windows roll down from their perspective switches, no courtesy lights when I open the drivers door and yes I have already replaced the door lock unit also. I can unplug the blue connector on the ccm and the car will start just fine no alarm, but I loose loose the comfort features along with it. Thoughts?

Hey brother. Quick question. I replaced my driver window regulator on a 2001 GTI with a used regulator. I found out later that there was a different motor for 2002 forward. Nothing works now. Does using the wrong motor fry anything, or should I just be able to replace with the correct one? At the moment neither side is working. If I unplug and replug the motor harness the driver side will work until the car is turned off, then will not work again. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hello, I have the same problem on my Passat B5. Neither the windows or the interior light are working. Comfort module seems to be ok! In the beginning, both the interior lights and windows was working now and then, but now its all dead. Fuses are also ok, so do you have any suggestions for what it could be?

Hey thomas ! i own a vw polo 1.2tdi Indian spec (2010) an the issue is tat i have power coming to the driver door switches (i have lights glowing in the switches as well ) i can hear any relay sounds as u mentioned in ur video ! & i cant lower the rest of the windows ! but the individual switches at each doors works what do i you ???

Hi I have an issue with my power windows. The passenger side door lock modules isn't getting power and the doors operate manually, the passenger windows sometimes operate independently through the door switches. I can't operate the passenger windows on the driver master control nor their locks. Please help

I just found my issue. A broken wire in the door wires. You have to remove rubber boot to find it

hi great video well exsplained do you no if a seat codoba has a cercuit breaker anywere as all my windows stoped working the is no power to main switch drivers side in the fuse board there are four 25 amp fuses each serving the indivial windows i have checked them they all have power to them could there be a relay that runs them there are 4 relays on a seprate board

Hey Thomas.I have a vw 2001 sharan, my right rear powerwindow stopped working today, in down position, fuse is fine but no sound what so ever from motor when i push the upp button, or down for that matter. all the other windows work fine.can't possibly be the motor seizing after winding the window down can it?

Hello Thomas, I have exactly the same problem that all my passat b5 windows are clicking, so I replaced the circuit breaker with replacement new VW circuit breaker but this hasnt fixed the problem, any ideas how what i could try next to fix this?
