To anyone buying the purge valve make sure the plug in the valve is large and open. I got one with plastic pieces in it and it would not fit my plug. Buy the oem one even if it costs extra
As a mechanic of 25+ years I got a chuckle out of your interruption, interruption of your interruption comment, it happens every blasted day! And then having to retrace what you were doing and rechecking things so your interruption doesn’t cause you to skip something because your train of thought got de-railed... usually by the time you are back on track and moving forward you get interrupted again... great videos, RU-vid needs more people like you teaching that diagnostics are key to repairing a vehicle correctly the first time instead of firing the parts cannon at it and hoping it fixes it.
Yes..I'm having the same 2 trouble codes...can't pass smog here in Calif...I did get the helpful tip about Vaseline, but haven't dropped the tank yet...no other easy access to the fuel pump..1999 DODGE Ram Van 1500...V-6 engine. I had the tank out for previous owner...I was surprised at the size of that tiny fuel pump...!
I have a 99 Jetta with the same problem. Cant get my inspection done because of it. I think it's the standard v5 engine, any suggestions to try and find where the problem could possibly be?
Sorry I cant take the time to walk you though the diagnosis. I might be able to answer a specific question but you would have to define the code. I dont have every code number and its definition memorized.
Nice vídeo I have a Jetta mk4 2.0 engine, CHECK DOES NOT APPEAR ON THE DASHBOARD but in the obd2 scanner torque application it appears incomplete evap system..... What is wrong with my evaporation system???
You get a thumbs up for having a blue Mag-Light like mine...!! I'm working on my 1999 DODGE Ram van 1500...V-6 engine...same 2 trouble codes...I'm just using an Innova 5210....it does show the codes, and can erase the annoying 'check engine' light...but then you have to drive a while to reset the other codes... I've been mechanic on stationary equipment for a while...so things are a bit different...but still troubles can be hard to find and fix...
From memory, I'm dont work on dodge much, but I think that generation would have a leak detection pump VERY similar to the VW one in this video. I don't know if dodge scan tool has a "test" like I did in this video though, but the system probably works identically. Other channels that deal with dodge more often like south main or pine hallow might be better but pump is explained very well by Bentley publishers Evap video here on youtube. Dont forget a purge valve that sticks open slightly can cause evap codes.
I always thought the dtml drew a vacuum and not pressurized the system, when you have a leak under vacuum and not under pressure a smoke machine makes it hard to diagnose these sometimes.
Good video. Stumbled on it. I have a 99 Chevy Express with the P0442 code. I went ahead and ordered a gas cap and purge valve(throwing parts at it) thinking if that didn't fix it I would just live with the light on the dash. After watching your video, if the parts don't fix it I may investigate a little further... Thanks!
Hi, quick question? Is there a way to program the ecm to put p0455 large evap leak to sleep in the background without triggering the check engine light? My engine is a 99 vw 1.8t that I installed in a completely different vehicle, I integrate the two systems together and I’m down to one code left. Thank you.
So, replaced the purge valve. No check engine light or any lights on the dash. When I go to start it sometimes the lights come on the dash and it won't start again. Take the negative off the battery for a half hour and then it will start again and no lights on the dash what could be causing this?
the fix in this video was the fuel pump seal. changing the LDP and cannister wouldn't have fixed this car and would have been a waste of money. Point being you have to diagnose.
Hey I have same 2 codes on my mk4 r32 I replace purge valve, leak detection pump, I did smoke test and did not find anything also replace fuel cap,now I still have one code for small evap leak?
I've had this code for over a month and after I fill up at the pump I have to pump the gas to start the car and hold it at 1500 rpm for a minute or 2 or it will die until I put it into gear. After this it starts and drives fine. Mine is a 2014 jetta base 2.0 gas. Trying to find the purge valve currently
It was the valve. Put my finger on it didn't feel it click. Got a new one and I can feel it click. I can now fill up with the car running even which I don't usually do, but is what I consider to be the ultimate test for this issue. Thanks for all the help
I have similar issue with my 2012 VW Passat se. And 2wks ago I recently put on a new purge valve. And last month I bought a new gas cap from O'Reilly auto parts store. I'm still getting P0442 code. Need help any suggestions?
when you get interrupted, you can put your pam over/towards the camera and do the same when you are back recording when editing you can fast farward and see the pams flash infront the camera and know thats where the cut is. just an idea.
Hi, I have a question during the output vcds test evap purge valve n80, I hear hissing air in the middle of the engine, is it supposed to be? Audi a6 c5 1.8T
I have a 2010 VW New Beetle and I’m getting the code p0455 for a large EVAP leak. My gas cap light came on one day and then afterwards my check engine light ended up coming on. I replaced the gas cap with a VW gas cap and I still have the light. I got it tested by a VW specialist and they told me it was the leak detection pump. I have trust issues and I’m wondering what you may think.
tests like the ones performed in this video would be necessary to determine the problem. At this point in my Vw career I haven't seen a failed leak detection pump. i have 4 (I think) videos on evap codes with good diagnostic info in all of them. Here is the playlist ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XWBE8Feaib0.html
@@CoolAirVw Thanks for your response. I have VCDS so I will probably follow your tracing practice and try and track mine down in the summer when I have more time
so you lubed up the purge valve? Those things stick all the time so I'm sure thats good advice for sticking purge valve. But would that have fixed the one in this video? Or would it have fixed the one in the following video? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZI7ZpQ1Pbg4.html
@@CoolAirVw I noticed that the pipe that’s near the exhaust that leads to charcoal canister on the driver side has a huge gash in it. So I believe that’s why I’m getting the large Evap leak code on VCDS. One more question…. In order to smoke test the vehicle is it preferred if the vehicle is off or on idle? Thanks in advance
@@aromero9243 Maybe next April 1st I'll go get a manicure and a pedicure or maybe a spa day and video the experience, and I'll post it up and say "channell content changing". How 'bout da? LOL!
few questions, new car guy here so i know close to nothing. 1. i have a 2.0 would i go about the fix the same way as you did with the 1.8? 2. were you fixing the P0442 or P0445 code? 3. would i be able to fix this at home? or would it need to go into a mechanic to get the specifics on what’s in need of fixing?
You would go about the diagnosis the same way. Fix could be something different. this repair fixed both codes if I recall correctly. Diagnosis might take a mechanic. The info here should help diagnose it but if you dont understand or dont have the equipment then head to the mechanic.
