Thanks I had intermittent turning over on my T4 never failed to start but had to turn key several times until it started. Ordered the ingnition from just Campers and did the job today. Perfect starting better than ever now and I could see the wear on the old ignition switch plastic where the end of the key goes in. Mine is a 1996 T4 diesel 2.4 AAD. Thanks for your guidance much appreciated.
Excellent video, thanks. I have exactly the same problem in my 22 year old T4. Didn't know about pushing the key but will do that until the replacement switch arrives. Thanks so much for your clear and concise remedy to this problem
You are a legend, I have worked on trying to get that little screw out for ages and finally yesterday my van died at some lights and I had to get help pushing it into a parking spot and left it overnight. Was going to get it towed to auto elec but then saw your video and that screwdriver you used. Light bulb moment, found a small phillips head screwdriver, put a 90 degree bend about 20mm from the bottom and had the little shite out within 2 minutes, replaced with ignition switch out of parts van and starting like new. Saved me a motza, great video, well done.
Hey guys. I changed the saitch and it still doesnt work. It gives contact but wont start… I have it hotwired and when I give electricity manualy it starts… Could it be some rellay?
Very useful to known mines started playing up. Fixed it What a bugger to get the screw out .. defo need offset Allen keys Thanks Joel interesting and informative
A few years ago I put a small amount of graphite powder in the ignition as the barrel was sticking when turning the key. It did the trick. 3 years later I tried it again and the van would not start. After a few attempts, it started but was intermittent. I had a new ignition switch in my parts box. Today I swapped them and found the old switch clogged up with graphite powder. Thanks for the guide! I had a set of the bent screw drivers already. No idea how you would do it without them.
For context, I done so many other checks and was just going to watch this out of curiosity for what may need to be done to get her going again and find out what ignition switch problems can look like. When you said to try press up I figured why not, screamed with glee when it worked and I could cancel the AA call out 🥲
literally just done this job on my T25, but we have to take off the steering wheel, remove the indicator and wiper stalks and slide the barrel off to get at the switch! guess they realized it needed to be more accessible :)
@@artinconstruction9070 thats to actually get to both. you have to take that all off to access the screw and remove the switch. is pretty stright forward, about 25 mins start to finish.
