Today I make a Wago to Power Pole adapter. This adapter can be used to connect any bare wire system to a power pole.

I agree with other comments; properly crimped connections *shouldn’t* need solder. But not everything goes to plan and sometimes we use cheap connectors. I would recommend applying a little liquid flux before soldering. Will make your joints flow like butter.
@AA0Z
@AA0Z 3 месяца назад
Yes, good point. II forgot the flux.

May I ask what width/diameter shrink wrap you used? Thanks for the video and apologies if I missed the answer
@AA0Z
@AA0Z 4 месяца назад
Never really understood heat shrink standards, but the stuff I used says 3/4" but if you measure across the heat shrink, it's 1 1/8" in. Hope this helps.

I made a couple of these. They work great! For one of them I had two ATC fuse holders that were already on wire. I used that in between so I have a fused link. I made mine longer, but I may do a shorter one like yours to throw in my pack. Thanks for the video!

I use solid 12 guage 1 1/4" long, 5/8 shrink wrap. Great to have a couple on hand.

I standardized on 40A power poles. It just makes things easier given their open design Vs. the 30A. This is especially true for me as I tend to oversize wire for an extra safety factor. I never thought of doing this but it could be useful. Nice video.
@AA0Z
@AA0Z 4 месяца назад
When you go to crimp, and you are using 18awg wire, does the crimp actually secure the wire?
@nutritionperfection
@nutritionperfection 4 месяца назад
@@AA0Z I've not really used wire gauge that small with power poles. I'd probably pick up some 15A power poles if I was working with gauges that small. When working with stuff that small I tend to be working with connectors that I'm soldering. The 40A are more helpful when you are over-sizing wires (so harder to nicely fit in the 30As) rather than for the small gauge stuff.

Maybe I missed something but why did you solder a crimped connector? The crimp is more than sufficient.
@AA0Z
@AA0Z 4 месяца назад
I've had crimps fail. You think they are crimped when actually they are not.
@MadGoat
@MadGoat 4 месяца назад
Not to mention that solder on a crimp can lead to failure from strain.

I've had one of these in my kit(even pre ham license) for years. It got me out of several binds! All of a sudden, in the last month or two, I'm seeing these pop up on several ham tubes, why is that?
