I haven't ridden a bike since the '70s, but I get out in my ute and love looking down all these back roads like you. You have given me inspiration to look further afield! Thank you😁
Another great video BV, I've been through there several times on a bike & in a ute while working. If you'd gone about 300m past the Hereheretau Rd turnoff on Mangapoike Rd you would have seen "Hell's Hole", a narrow cleft in a huge rock shelf that the river flows through. I think you would've gotten through Tarewa Rd, I've been through there many times in the past without being stopped, & looking on Google Earth it looks like most of the pines have been harvested so there's not likely to be much traffic. I've got a friend in Gisborne with a DR650, I'll see if he can check it out for you.
Thanks. That'd be good. I did almost keep going past Hereheretau just to see what was over the bridge. But I was in a rush to get to the Tarewa part of the route. That was going to be the main focus of the view. If I'd known it was private I would have spent more time exploring along Mangapoike. At least that gives me another option for later.
@@theNZbv The Mangapoike Rd fizzles out at a farm in the middle of nowhere. It'd be a scenic ride but it's a dead end. I'll let you know about the Tarewa Rd asap. Cheers.
Love them back roads travelled them many a time. Thanks for sharing, nice to view through a camera and drone. Maybe boring bit in the end but better than the rat race of BOP.
You have to stop if you are changing between road and off-road modes. You can change between any of the road modes on the fly, but you can't turn off traction-control. I'll often leave it in off-road mode if I know I'll be back on gravel after a while.
Good weather = good ride ... i would have been tempted to ignore 'road closed sign' especially with yr knobble tyres, haha ... just to see why road closed, except for cockies and their sheep ... love Gizzie
I previously travelled the tarewa road a lot, was my short cut from wairoa to the paparatu rd. Worked in there at mangaoike station. The road was shut when private forestry companies began to used it while harvesting trees. Pretty disappointing that a private company’s can get the council to close a public road, when all our rates have been used to keep it open in previous years. At a guess it’s probably been shut for close to 8 or 9 years now.
Thanks, that is more than disappointing and u make a good point about rates and road maintenance. What condition will the road be left in, never mind the shit (slash) they leave behind them that has already cost taxpayers millions ...@@lukeread6208
