I was really inspired by JK Rowling to make my own stories so finding out she despises my very existence because of something I have no control over is pretty disheartening

you know i’m really glad i never got into harry potter. i remember i read a quarter of the first book but it just didn’t click for me. in retrospect i’m glad i didn’t, because i guess people like me are her number one enemy now. it sucks cuz i know if i DID ever get into it i would never forgive myself cuz it’s really hard for me to separate the art from the artist.
You gotta remember that despite being created by J.K Rowling, the community and the Harry Potter series have become a separate thing that push themselves away from Rowling and her believes

this is a very serious topic but i find it extremely hilarious the thumbnail is one half Rowling evil and the secold half is fucking SWEETHEART boss fight
Honestly, associating J.K. Rowling with a character like Sweetheart is an extremely rude and disrespectful thing to do. Sweetheart is a saint compared to J.K., how dare they be put on the same level of evil.
as a kid, i always had an interest in writing and all of the harry potter books were a major help in pushing me into writing fantasy, but when i found out the things about her, honestly sat in a corner for a bit and felt like i never wanted to write again. im not a super fan of the hp series so i can't talk like it was very personal for me, but it's still dispiriting

i don't wanna get into any political drama but even though she's not overtly saying she wants to hurt trans people, because of her extremely high societal status (she was literally in my english textbook once) means that she holds power over other beings who look up to her, hence many people will end up agreeing with her take and even take it to extreme in worst case scenarios. either way, im not exactly the best at dissecting this kind of stuff, so im going to leave it there.
She illustrates the reason why you shouldn't put celebs on a pedestal. She's managed to anger people on the right and the left and everyone in between with her various antics, it is a little shocking she still has ANY fans. If it makes Potter fans feel any better you could have it as bad as I do with Tom Cruise used to be my favorite actor and L Ron Hubbard one of my favorite authors as a child.
@@esbenm6544To be fair I might have been if I wasn't so poor as a kid. The old Sci-Fi Channel used to do a LOT of ads for Dianatics and I really wanted the book being a fan of Battlefield Earth. My parents telling me no may have saved me from a lifetime of misery. I really did enjoy the books of his I read as a kid, terrible person though.
I never like Rowling as a person (i got to know her with the twitter saga), but i love her books, harry potter is my top 2 book series, only beaten recently by Percy Jackson. But yeah, she is a pretty briliant writer but a terrible person.
Nothing wrong with liking the harry potter series. IMO the art is different from the artist, Dont let the actions of another person stop you from having fun and enjoying the content
2:33 I almost commented a paragraph on how I don’t think changing her race is that bad for an AU. Because the video didn’t tell me it was canon or not directly. Like, when you said, “series”, I assumed you meant the franchise as a whole. Instead of the main continuity.
I don't remember subscribing to you but grate video hope to support the challenge along the way I used to be a fan of the franchise but after the 5th book I lost interest but I never knew any of this stuff happened until I got on the internet for the first time
I think most people like her other than Twitter 12 year olds. Like its insane that people don't realize the backlash to her is a vocal minority. Most people aware of this don't think she said anything outrageous, because she did not say anything outrageous.
Well, I've started to watch this because from what I've seen so far with the trans debate I cannot see what she has tweeted that is wrong or transphobic so I like to see the other point of view. I have not followed Harry Potter but I know the characters and your first point I agree with entirely. Casting Hermione Granger as another actress would ruin it for me aswell, but casting her as black is absolute total madness. It is so obviously a *forced* tick box move. If I was a Harry Potter fan that would totally ruin the integrity of that film and I would not watch it. It's got nothing to do with racism, it's to do with integrity and realism. We all know movies are not actually real and they are acting, but the whole point is to make you think it *is* real, and that just shoves it in your face that it's not.
As a transgender woman, finding out all the things jk Rowling has done, was WILD Whole world was fucking shaken up man. So many people are horrible people but you just never know
"there should be trans education on schools" *laughs in my teacher was transphobic and instead used it to promote transphobia* -19:45-- Sounds similar to... demon girls? It's a kind of demon girl that's start with S. The original definition is like that (word rhymes with sucs and bus.)- edit: idk where I got it from. These sucs that bus were never men taking the image of a woman.
They are no more important than the books of Enid Blyton. She wrote over 600 books and was much more of a cultural touchstone in her time than J.K. Rowling ever was. But neither of them are excellent. Neither of them are a Tolkien or Mary Shelley. She will be forgotten within a generation just like Enid.
I'm sorry, but after reading the whole article by her, honestly you can call me transphobic all you can, I don't care, I identified as trans myself, but I honestly just agree with her. And you cannot deny that this political LGBTQ twitter thing that's been happening for a long while now is just too much. Both sides have to realise when enough is enough and that they need to respect both side's boundaries. Because rn what's happening is that both sides are forcing the other side to agree with them, which just isn't how you can achieve that. With LGBTQ activists being way too vocal about it. Even when I though I was trans I just felt so bad for all the trans men and women who just want to transition and live a normal life, but because of what's happening they'd be shun upon. People just have to self reflect and think about others than themselves dude...
Personally I think you’re right about this from my limited knowledge of social interactions but boundaries are important, if broken they’ll lead to things that could be worse than before for a group of people just look at Africa.
I don't care if this will give you engagement, it really doesn't matter, but I must ask one thing: what do you make of the Catholic Church, not if you believe in her, what do you think about her doctrines and deeds? If transphobia is enough to make someone/something evil, then indeed the Church could be considered one of the most evil things in the world... or is there something missing here?
I think that Jowling Kowling Rowling is not only a bigot and intentionally goes out of her way to remain transphobic without ever thinking about her worldview or the perspective of other people, but she also sucks as a writer in general. Harry Potter was mostly carried by the editors, especially because every book she has made are pretty bad all things considered. I grew up with this series, and my family has too, but the moment I realized what kind of person this woman is and that she would kill me on sight I just can't find it in me to care about this series, and that my family still does is kind of uncomfortable honestly.
Thank you for this video! Got into a debate with someone I know about JKR being a transphobe and this summarizes the whole situatio perfectly and seems like a perfect way to communicate to an older cishet person why the things she says are harmful. Definitely will be sending this on
I am a man but stand by what she said. ESPECIALLY when parents and doctors are allowing their kids to have surgery to alerting there bodies forever. I feel extremely sad when I think about how this is gonna effect the next generation or 2.
Great video, and it only scratches the surface of how terrible Rowling is. She's not just transphobic, but also anti-semitic and ableist. Goblins have been an offensive Jewish stereotype for a while, having large noses and being obsessed with money. Rowling decided to make them bankers who are secretive and looked down upon by the wizarding society, mirroring the conspiracy theory that a secret cult of Jewish bankers rule the world from the shadows. Granted, this could just be a coincidence. Maybe she simply looked at fantastical creatures, saw the portrayal of goblins, and decided to make them bankers without being aware of the stereotype. That being said, in Hogwarts Legacy, the main plot is quelling a goblin uprising where they kidnap kids to use their blood for a ritual, which is eerily similar to blood libel. Blood libel is a conspiracy that's been around since the 12th century where Jewish people murder Christian children to use their blood in rituals. Throughout the game, there are also goblin artifacts, including a horn that resembles a shofar, which is used in synagogue services on certain holidays. The description for the horn states that it was used "during the 1612 Goblin Rebellion" to "annoy witches and wizards". 1612 is also the year in which Vincenz Fettmilch led a mob to attack the Jewish sector of Frankfurt am Main, killing two people as the Jews were driven out of the city. In regards to ableism, in The Ink-Black Heart, the killer claims to have postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) and myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), the latter being incorrectly referred to as CF. POTS causes increased heart rate when standing, leading to lightheadedness, fatigue, heart palpitations, nausea, and fainting. CFS is more self-explanatory, where fatigue sets in very quickly. Oftentimes, people are accused of faking having these debilitating health issues to justify laziness. I couldn't find sources that specifically say if the killer actually has these or not, but it's harmful either way. Either she's furthering the accusations that these issues are fake, or she's implying someone who can barely stand managed to plan and carry out a murder and assault in the middle of a cemetery. I may have gotten some of the details wrong, so feel free to correct me in the replies, but still. Worse than transphobia.
You know, I ever even really liked Harry Potter's writing or story. I was engrossed in it's world. I think the wizarding world is really cool. Something about Rowling didn't sit right with me, and I'm glad I stuck by that opinion
Maybe she isn't perfect but really..All this stuff more feels like people just jealous of her and how she can say stuff which she like and not being scared to be cancelled.
I don't understand the logic of not letting children know about LGBTQ people. As a young child, I knew multiple people who had parents, or themselves weren't cis/straight. I just accepted that those people exist, and didn't think about it beyond that. Why would I? It is a normal thing just like skin color or eye color.
I disagree with basically everything jk Rowling says. Im planning on getting the game second hand. I dont let go of harry Potter because it quite literally saved my life while i was with my birth mom who was a horrible person. But the harassment and insults ive gotten for even thinking about getting the game second hand, or getting it at all, has gotten out of hand. Even had people threaten to not only off me, but off my dog and my partners (who are both nonbinary.... Ya know, part of the trans umbrella) and went into detail on how they were gonna do it. Which caused me to have an autistic meltdown so bad i... Almost took my life, and messed my head up badly. I hate jk Rowling. I care a lot about trans people. But the harassment went too far.
Im sorry to hear your story. I hope you feel better since then. You have the right to disagree with Rowling and everybody. This is the beautifull in modern days. That we can express freely our opinions, or we should. Ofcours if we express our opinions we can expect that somebody will told us that we are wrong. It is part of the magic... but not the violent threatings. Threatenings should never happen. Im sorry for your experiences. Im just curious how do you know that your dog is non-binary?
IMO, the art should be separated from the artist. There is nothing wrong with liking Harry Potter or other stuff made by someone that happens to be bad
true i very much despice her transphobia and i feel that all the money from her book that are sold from now on should go to that book store exclusively, but yeah, i never was into fantasy books, but i can understand why people like them. i even watched the movies with my dad and 2 of my siblings, and probably enjoyed them

Ya, I have no problem with LGBTQ+ individuals unless they rudely demand or compel me to do something. All I'm saying is just ask politely. I may not always agree with Rowling but one needs in my opinion to separate the writer from their work Just look at H. P. Lovecraft. Though I can recommend one to look at his biography if you want a tail more creepy than some of his stories.
@@timetodiechris2458 I didn't say that? As I said, you're indirectly funding transphobic charities, meaning you're deciding something else is more important to you than not funding said transphobia. So it's not transphobic, but it's definitely also not supportive of trans people.
The only thing I don't agree with is Herminie being played by a black actress being bad. At least for me, harmonies and race played such a small role in the original and new story that I don't think it matters. Though retroactively claiming the character that was chastised for trying to end slavery, and making fun of their "messy" hair, etc, is.....something.
im not in the internet a lot but why do people hate the author of the 2nd best fictional story (im writing this before i watched the video)? i just watched the video and the thing is no metter what im still gonna like the books its like if the beatles are bad people im not gonna hate the songs the songs are still rlly good (just like the harry potter)
The video specifically says JK Rowling, not her books. It is like saying that it doesn't matter if people dislike Tom Cruise because his movies have nothing to do. When in fact, nobody mentioned his movies.
I feel kinda bad for Harry Potter fans because they have to deal with the author of the books digging deeper and deeper holes. Also, the section on her transphobia was well-structured and did a good job debunking her claims. Sorry about the inevitable transphobes that will comment, but engagement right? Great video!
@@esbenm6544 According to the sellings of the HP products, JKR never was richer then now. She is growing fast... so who protests against her not really a factor. They are just loud... I see you found me, but not really has any arguments...
Okay what exactly did she do thats so evil. From what I keep hearing she just has a different opinion and choosed to support her different opinion. How is that bad?
This is a very rightful question. And there fore you never get an answear, becouse they dont have one. They needed a scapegoat. But unfortunately for them they choosed a wrong one. Rowling is stronger then ever. She did not said anything wrong, nothing close, and nothing far from hatefull. She did not expressed any emotion, she cited biological facts. The T+ just didnt read any biology book ever. They say sex and gender not the same and then trying to wash away the differences... becouse they dont have anything which can be backed with science. No medicine no psychology backing them, no experiences, no statistics. They jus using innocent and confused souls, adoults and children as guinea pig. Most of the transsexuals dont feel represented by this insane agenda, they are against it. Im not against any individual, not against any groups. Im against transideology, which is not equal with trans peeps.
Opinions that are both ignorant, harmful and hateful. If i say "i think you should not exist" you wouldn't be very happy, would you? Except it wouldn't even be as bad, because you don't belong to a vulnerable group and my claim poses 0 threat to you. While the same said to someone from the LGBTQ group could incite a large mob of people that do actually believe they should not exist and actively fight to make it so.
The messega of the house elfs sides story for children is : Not everybody needs to be saved who living a different life then you. Dont be nosy in others life. Reffering to other cultures, and domestic abuse too. It is a very sophisticated messege. They are not slaves. Some need help, and some not. Hermione learnt it on the hard way. The Hogwart house elfs are happy with their status. Also was mentioned in the books that house elfs has stronger magic power then wizards itselfs, maybe that is why they cant have wands. Dobby, Winky story was about domestic abuse, and ptsd effects, the Blacks house elfs shows typical (and exagerated) domestic abuse symptomes too. House elfs are very tradition following creatures and sometimes wizard familys taking advantege on this. Rowling didnt wanted serious phisical abuse on human kids in her book so she created these elfs. Children understand this messege, why not you? Also Rowling wasnt hatefull she did not expressed any emotion. She cited biological facts. It was the woke mob who never opened a biology book. Both way, even if she wrong she has the right to have a factually wrong opinion, same way as you. You can argue with that, but cant demand to silence her. I apriciate the work put into this video, but if you not read the books how can you arguing on its logic. You spoje about the films logic a lot of times, which is not equal to the books. Kids books in the 90's had a very different dynamics, they were full of funny names. She just followed the actual trends. Young peeps dont project your presentism on different eras. They just worked differentley.
"Biological facts" which have nothing to do with gender. But ofc, you have no idea what the difference between gender and sex is and probably claim that there is no difference because you don't know the definition of either. And freedom of speech does not mean freedom of consequences, spewing hateful and harmful retoric towards a vulnerable group is not something you can look the other way, history has made that very clear. She kept defending people and faulty arguments that supported the removal of human rights, there is no leniency to be had here. The content of the books are irrelevant really, i agree on that. But this is about her, not just her books.
@@rompevuevitos222 Then please tell me, what the deffinition of gender? Im asking it for a long time now, and never got a real answer. I speaking about biology book, becouse its explains in details, why we should not ignore biologycal features. However "gender theory" pushing us to ignore them...Please, tell me. Im curiouse. What is gender? Also nobody wants to remove human rights. What human rights, you speaking about? Freedom of speach means that a person cant be arrested to tweeting (for example) not believing in holocaust. But if their employer/buissiness partners others disagree can let them go/ diatance themselfs, academic awards can be revoked. The future of the person basically cut. But not arrested. The person had the right to said their opinion. And their environment had the right to revoke their support. (I used this example becouse it actually happened to people who said that publicly. JKR did not said nothing like that). JKR said her opinion in an other topic. She has the right, and who disagreed, revoked their support from her. What else should happen?
@@Kaczyfunny "Speaking about biology" Gender is a social construct, so it is not biological. It is like looking for WW2 records on a chemistry book. Gender is about how people are treated and perceived in relation to their sex. The necessity to change it happens when someone is born feeling as a different gender than the one matching their sex. Making people live as the opposite sex that they feel as. For someone that does not suffer gender disphoria it is hard to understand, but basically imagine that you where treated and referred to as the opposite sex you currently are, and when you attempt to correct them, they get hostile at you. It doesn't sound too nice, does it? While the people around you have the right to NOT support you, the state has no right to deprive you from your freedoms just because they do agree with your beliefs, specially when these are harmless to everyone else. There are many movements aiming to outlaw transgender people or trying to outright make it illegal to be taught despite being a real topic from social sciences, just as real as any other. And there are political movements that agree with them and fight to make it so. This necessitates that everyone comes togheter to protect these vulnerable groups. Because as Germany made clear, looking the other way doesn't work.
@@rompevuevitos222 So gender = collection of stereotypes? You just described stereotypes. It is okay to choose a stereotype for your personal style. I absoloutley agree with you nobody, the state does not have thenright to deprieve freedoms from you. But which one exactly? I mean, you are right "gender" is nothing to do with biology, also cant overrule biology. There are places where sex is important, and gender secondary or not playing at all.
@@KaczyfunnyPretty much yeah, a bunch of stereotypes. This is why many push for gender fluidity or spectrums. Because it doesn't make much sense to want to slot one-self into a pre-defined gender when the goal is to get out of a pre-defined one int he first place. But some people are more comfortable that way so they stick to it. At the same time, it is hard to convey one's preferred way of being addressed and treated when there's a spectrum of genders. When sex is important, it is respected ofc. Nobody is transitioning to being a woman and going to check if they are pregnant or anything like that. Some of the bigger controversies are things like sports, because it is said that sex confers an innate advantage when it comes to them. Thing is, having an advantage (specially genetical) has never been an issue in sports. Men and woman alike can be born with more or less hormones and develop more or less muscle mass thanks to them. Yet this has never raised any controversies. Wrestling kinda solved this issue by separating by weight class, which is a factor that actually plays a big role. And while sex can play a role, it doesn't always do so necessarily.
”Educating children about trans stuff is GOOD” tell that to r/dysphoria. There is LOTS of testimonies of people who regreted their decisions and got ABANDOND by those that taught/GROOMED them into thinking destroying your body is ok.
I'm like 99% sure when they teach about trans people, its never trying to groom people to change but rather let them know they exist, and should be respected. Schools are already bad enough for LGBT folk, taking away that gives those even less knowledge about trans people, and therefore more distrust and opposition towards them. Idk bro :/. If people are getting groomed to transitioning, I think that's a grooming issue, and less of a trans issue. Just be nicer to people lol.
