I mainly photograph because I love the process and my goal is to get the "right" photo to hang on my wall so I can view it. And, that's why I shoot film - for the love of the process. Also, I love to document my family with photos. I'd love to have a photo of my great-grandparents and of the ones before them. I want to make sure that future generations of my family will have photos of their ancestors. Good video with valid questions!
That is what's lacking about digital photography. The end of the road for most photos is a JPEG on a hard drive or social media site. Of course, it's easy to finish the process and have prints made but it takes a little more effort to get over the goal line!
I didn't watch much of this, but one could ask the same question of anyone who plays a musical instrument. Why? If you aren't doing gigs then why? Or painting or drawing or baking clay or woodworking or what have you. I think the answer is rather simple: personal enrichment.
My goal is to print photos that I put in albums for personal enjoyment. Photos rarely rise to the level that I feel is worthy of printing, so it is a real goal for me. I must keep trying to get that one print worthy shot
I must admit I don’t do much with mine apart from entering competitions. I post some on Facebook but print very rarely sadly. Have thought of creating photo books though, as you have suggested previously man 👍📸
Thoughtful and thought provoking commentary this morning. I really enjoyed your observations and insight. For me, yes, I check all the boxes with my images: gifting, displaying, albums, books I publish if my work, social media, sharing. I like my photography to be scene.
Great question. I just don’t understand why so many photographers use so much film taking photos of places and things that do not change for the most part. It’s been my experience that viewers of photos always express more interest in shots of people.. faces, activity, emotion.. story. People change, places really don’t.
