Walking in the Left AIC Right BC Pattern

The signs of "patterned walking" is obvious once you know what to look for. The Left AIC Right BC pattern holds an individual's bodyweight to the right. When a body can not shift to the left completely, it is no longer true human walking that the brain can recognize as "normal". This lack of normal walking eventually becomes a problem as the body has to compensate by twisting in order to walk straight.
For an example of typical exercises for a beginner program, you can look here:

Please note, this is quite generic and not sufficient for everybody!

Hello Neal, I wanted to thank you for all the information you have put out over the years. I was in 24/7 pain that nobody could help before I found your channel. I eventually saw your "Cranial Issues" videos and actually started seeing the PRI therapist mentioned in those videos and immediately started healing. I appreciate all your work so much, you are changing lives. God bless!

However, I was a patho-PEC and still have cranial issues that I hope to soon resolve by seeing a specialized PRI dentist, which I believe is the same dentist the man in the "Cranial Issues" video saw. Hope this helps!

Let me tell you, I would tell people about my back problems being related to my messed up dental work, about my hips, legs, jaw, shoulders, and about my discoveries relating to long focused (almost meditative) stretching sessions, and they didn’t really believe me, and I even wondered if I was deluded and just making things up as I went. But since finding your channel, I have hope. I swear, I’ve been so moved by so many of your explanations in your videos. I’m gonna keep at it until I’m back to where I wanna be and try to help anyone I can, including directing them here. I hope they get the care and relief I’ve experienced, and thanks man, your help to me has been immense and can’t be understated 🙏 many thanks from me

I love how PRI thinks of the pre-existing conditions for a certain movement to arise. In Anatomy in Motion there are the primary phases of gait and then what's called 'ghost phases' which are the phase before the phase with the movement issue that didn't fully materialize resulting in the faulty phase you are observing. So if X can't do Y at phase A, then at phase C it won't materialize. Often I need to go back to a ghost phase rather than work within the phase where a movement is missing. I did this with a client yesterday.

Hi Neal, fully agree with your point that walking should be like a rhythmic left-right-left-right etc. pattern. I've been experimenting to improve my gait since finding your videos and found that shifting your weight and relaxing the ankle/foot seems to temporarily relax one side of the body, which is very pleasant. Also completely relaxing the shoulders, and letting them balance the motion of the opposite sides leg (ie left leg forward, right arm forward) dampens the ground impact as the shoulder and arm momentum push slightly the body slightly forward and up. Anyways, hope to hear you thoughts and could you maybe share some more insights about the books your reading as it pertains to balancing human motions?
@NealHallinan
@NealHallinan 2 года назад
Walking is much less about the legs and more about the arms/spinal rotation, so yes, the right arm has to come forward appropriately as the left leg is swinging through the air for your next step to be correct. There really aren't any books that directly talk about what I'm talking about. You have to find the parallels in other disciplines: physics, architecture, Buddhism, psychology, art, dance, etc...

Theoretically, PRI makes sense to me, and I watch videos like yours to try to figure out how to help myself, since I have moderate scoliosis. I'm sure it's just me, but I have trouble following what you are saying when you are showing me a picture of a guy facing away from the camera, then explain it by showing me a pelvic model that is facing the camera--while at the same time talking about the left or the right which I have to remember does not mean my left or right, but yours. And then I wonder if the camera has horizontally flipped your image, which leaves me feeling even more confused. Any chance you could explain it in at least couple of videos without changing the orientation? For folks like me who can't turn it around that easily in our heads.

@MrKillerakos

Hello Neal, thank you for all this precious information. I've been suffering from Left AIC / RIght BC for at least the past 5 years. I have been strictly following your beginner routine for about a month already (90-90 hip shift, respiratory scissor slides, right glute max and all fours left zoa) and I've seen some progress, I can walk more naturally (but still getting left hip pain), my left scapula pain has been alleviated for the most part and I can exercise with better form in the weight room, although I haven't regained strength. I also have left hip hike, which as you have said is correlated to the left AIC, so I tend to foam roll my left QL. My question is, if this exercise routine is enough to solve my problem. Unfortunately, the are no PRI practicioners in my country.
@NealHallinan
@NealHallinan 2 года назад
To be honest, probably not. As I said, it's a beginner program for a left AIC right BC pattern. I doubt anyone with a left hip hike is just a left AIC right BC. More likely there is some "pathology" involved. Make sure you can feel both hamstrings closer to your butt (rather than closer to your knee). If you can truly adduct both legs (adduction drop test video), then you can try the technique I discuss in this video because you need your left anterior glute medius to stabilize your left hip in a standing position. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TeZowPpAz6o.html

Hello Neal, I am aware contacting you on here is a long shot but I‘ll give it a shot. I dove pretty deep into PRI and it explains MANY issues which I‘ve been dealing with over the last 5+ years. One thing I simply can’t wrap around is this: All my weight is on the left side of my body, no matter if standing, sitting or lying down. Also my whole left side is a lot stronger and tighter than my right! (Abs, QL, Glutes) My body is crunched to the left with constant pain especially in my left hip and QL/ hip flexors, which seems to be the exact opposite of what to expect with left AIC.. Any idea on where to continue my research? My left pelvis is tilted forward, confirmed by a physiotherapist.
@visabsoluta5775
@visabsoluta5775 2 года назад
Also I must add that my left hip has a pretty hard time internally rotating and my left foot always wants to rotate externally pretty significantly. Is this a „patho“ condition? I feel like my left hip is the root of all evil

Would you mind investigating more about the jaw/bite? So many research papers i've read lately hint at occlusion directing (not just influencing) spinal alignment. In my case, only my right molars touch (absolutely zero contact on the left side) and yet my left shoulder and pelvis sit significantly higher . This cant be a coincidence.
@NealHallinan
@NealHallinan 2 года назад
It is probably not a coincidence. You need a PRI therapist and a good "holistic/airway centric" dentist to evaluate things.
@mayr1820
@mayr1820 2 года назад
Hi I was wondering from more of a PRI perspective do you think certain jobs are more prone to “body breakdown”/chronic aches and pains due to the nature of their job (examples: dentists, dental assistants, office workers)? Or would you say that as long as they are staying out of patterns and working out, things will be fine? I always hear about how certain positions will have people complaining about their body pain and i wonder how much of it has to do with how their posture was going into it
@NealHallinan
@NealHallinan 2 года назад
Any job that has you doing the same repetitive movements over and over again can easily cause problems. Dentists and dental assistants are likely always sitting with their weight on their right butt and reaching with their right arm, which accentuates the natural right dominant patterning.
@mayr1820
@mayr1820 2 года назад

Hi Neil, I hopr this message finds you. I have had cervical dystonia for almost 17 years. I have come a long way but the more knowledgeable I become from years of therapy, I know that no one had addressed that my left hip is raised most the time. I noticed that the tighter my hips become and more stuck they are the harder it is to breath, affecting my diaphragm and tightening and Turning my head left and creating spasms. I am very interested to learn more.
@NealHallinan
@NealHallinan 2 года назад
Hi John. I don’t have any direct experience with cervical dystonia, but I’ve heard from other PRI therapists that the visual system is usually involved. Your left hip being raised is likely the consequence of faulty “sensory processing” that is creating the cervical dystonia and the underlying body “patterning”. In other words, the left hip hike isn’t the “cause” it’s the “result” of what’s going on in the head/neck area.
