Great walk again, Tom! We enjoy listening to your stories from yesteryear😊. How traumatic for your grandfather and his wife. What a lovely house they had.
HIya Tom and your navigational aid Paddy 👍 some lovely weather Jersey is having certainly better than the strange weather in England 🤔🤔.Already looked at part 1 liked but not commented and looking forward to the next .once you have completed the walks around the island your next series could be walks to pubs around Jersey 😁.
Travelled a long way from down under to experience first hand these beautiful walks around Jersey. I’m keeping a look out for you Tom and Paddy. It has been way too cool of late.
Hi Rae, yes the weather has been pretty poor of late so Paddy and I have not been out as much as usual! I fear that we are not going to have a proper summer this year...........I think our poor old planet is beginning to fall apart! Having said that, if you do see us be sure to give us a shout! 👍🏻
Another great walk Tom & Paddy so much so that when we return for our holiday we will walk from St Clement to St Helier. How long did it take you? Lovely to hear your family story and your comment on scaffolding made me laugh. When we were in St Helier in May I couldn't believe how much scaffolding was about . Who knew there was much of it on just one island lol
Hi Donnamay, walking from the end of St. Clement near Green Island all the way around to the Grand Hotel took about an hour. It does make you wonder where all that scaffolding comes from huh!
I stayed on the top floor (14th) of one of those tower block flats throughout the summer last year and the views from there were something else overlooking the bay and towards Fort Regent. Happy days!
I remember the bird cadge bar and been in it a few times. If my memory serves me right it was done out in tartan and loved the story of the guy who spent time in the bar before he went off to Hong Kong, small world. I remember there was so much entertainment on offer in Jersey in the eighties and nineties when I was living in Jersey. Swansons, De Normandie to name a couple in town. Along the five mile road the water splash and the Chateau and not forgetting Cesar’s palace in which was a good show. Many of the hotels had entertainment for the guests and yes it was a good time for shows in those two decades. Our friends suffered storm damage to a very high fence between the and next door it’s costing them 34 thousand to repair as a small digger has to dig deep for the foundation before anything else can be done. The good news is the insurance is footing the bill. I hope you played well in your match play and were victorious. Cheers
I'm sure that you are right about the tartan Nic! If I remember correctly there were two bars.......the birdcage ran along the street and then there was another one a bit further back. All so long ago now and I was just a nipper! Wow! 34K to replace a fence........it just doesn't seem possible does it.........just like the scaffolding! Just before she passed away my Mum lived at Links Court (near Royal Jersey) and they were painting the blocks. The cost was unbelievable! The less said about my golf this morning the better! It was very, very windy but the guy who beat me 4 and 2 didn't seem to notice! 😁😁😁
Hello Tom the name of your grandfathers house Darvel I would imagine was named after the village of Darvel in East Ayrshire in Scotland not far from where I live.
Hi James, I'm sure that you are right. I believe he was involved with dairy farming but whether that was in Darvel or Glasgow where they were before moving to Jersey I'm not sure!
@@thereluctantoutdoorsman Hi Tom, The dairy farming community is still going fairly well in Darvel and Ayrshire as a whole. I knew when I first came across your channel you had Scots blood in you with your name.🇯🇪🏴
😮 wow Tom and Paddy 🐕🥩🦴 g I'm enjoying my 🍵 brew and a walk in paradise ✅ I'll have to get my hard hat out of retirement Tom and do a bit of scaffolding lol 🤔 I wouldn't like to see the insurance bill after the terrible storm that hit thousands of people in jersey! You did well not heading for the second pub on your travels 🍺 m8 well all the best c u 2 Mora my friends all the best John 😊😊😊
