I walk the city of Revere, MA to Revere Beach. The beach is the first public beach in the United States, opened in 1896.

"Revere is a city in Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States, located approximately 5 miles (8.0 km) from downtown Boston. Founded as North Chelsea in 1846, it was renamed in 1871 after the American Revolutionary War patriot Paul Revere. In 1914, the Town of Revere was incorporated as a city. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city has a population of 51,755 inhabitants."

Im from the uk and visited this beach in 1976 - there used to be a massive amusement park there - was the year the film JAWS came out so was edgy swimming there lol!

I have photographs of my Grandparents on that beach in the 1920s in their swimming costumes. They emigrated to the US after WWI. My mum was born in Quincy MA in 1928 and then she and my Grandparents moved back to Scotland in 1929 after the Wall Street crash.

Revere Beach looks like most beaches in the winter. Rocks and debris come with high water and waves.I bet it's wonderful in the summer.

in the 1960's and 70's there was an amusement park at one end of the beach with an old wooden roller coaster. Most of it closed in the late 70's and was replaced with a lot of bars and discos. Wonderland is an old race track where there used to be dog racing I think it is also closed many decades ago. Thank you for the trip through my old neighborhood :)

I have Recycled the kennels they used for housing the dogs. They now provide a 6 foot fence around my goat pen. 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐

We used to take the 5 cent Blue Bus from Everett a city just to the West in the 50s and 60s. Slather ourselves with baby oil and bake on the big concrete slabs. Insane but lots of fun at Reveeah, thanks!

The Wonderland Amusement Park operated from 1906 to 1910 in Revere, Massachusetts. Wonderland featured various state-of-the-art rides, attractions, and performers. Although some features remained constant through the life of the Park, most of the attractions changed from year to year. The park was served by the Boston, Revere Beach and Lynn Railroad, known as the "Narrow Gauge". Today, the rail stop is named Wonderland, and is the northern terminus of the MBTA's Blue Line. The title of the 1998 film Next Stop Wonderland refers to this station

Wonderland was a huge amusement park. Even before the the amusements where build along the strip of Revere beach. Wonderland then became a dog track for many many years. They also held a lot of events private parties and such. I wish I could show you these books I have. The history of Revere is incredible! I lived in Beachmont untill 1986. Now I am in Florida. I still have a lot of family in Revere.

Those shelters are original to the time period of the beach. One was a band stand and the other pavilions where for the beach goer's to watch the big bands play. Way back in the 1800's!

I was disappointment you didn't walk to kellys Roast beef, still there from 1951. Food is great, but rather expensive for take out now. Revere beach has great history that didn't get mentioned. And in the summer the beach is still packed. I lived in Boston for years. On the first nice spring day we would drive there 10 min get fried clams and a roast beef sandwich and go sit on the beach wall to eat. Then the battle of the seagulls would start-lol. Was just like out of the birds movie! Too bad you didn't show a close up of the Victorian Iron work over the benches, its over 100 yrs old and preserved nicely I Remember the beach with the amusement park (not the wonderland one) and all the biker bars. Revere got pretty seedy from the 70s on for a while. When the condos started in the 80's the interesting bars that had live music and dancing disappeared and took the fun out of going there on Friday nights. Some of the bars even allowed you to bring in food from Kellys.

My father was born and raised in Revere. Down Shirley Ave area. Back when it was mostly Jewish families and businesses. The old synagogue used to have a large plaque that had my last on it. It was for "Prince Strauss"! I have photos of it somewhere. They just took it down a few years ago. Anyways... my father had really awesome paper back books of the historical area Revere Beach and Wonderland. These books are amazing and I will treasure them always. Tons of history.

Hi It's really nice there but in the warmer weather is so much nicer. Am there every summer for a visit but I never walked the town. You picked not a good time to go there unless you like it cold and really soltitud. I hope you enjoyed it anyway. Next time if you can go to Castle Island is really nice there ,very popular, It has a lot to see there. Ck it out, you love it !

There a lot beaches in Ma .and most them are beautiful. Most those beaches alot them don't swim Just walk and sit and relax Check out the others sometime. Wollaston is nice to walk & sit have a bite & enjoy the view also. Great seafood shacks .Stay warm & safe! Am sure the reason there aren't ppl watching this or commenting because there watching the Famous Super bow🏈 It's rare that am here without so many ppl commenting or well am sure this is very rare for you also. Hopefully you can read mines this time since I always get lost in all those comments.🤣

Yes people go to the beach is Massachusetts. When I grew up there we spent days and days on the beach in the summer. I live in CA now and do remember that back east beaches sometimes had lots of shells and rocks. You have to remember that you are there in winter so that their top priority is not keeping the beaches clean.

Wonderland Greyhound Park opened in 1930's and closed in 2009. It was a racetrack.

If you look to the right you will see big sticks out of the water. That was an indoor salt water swimming pool. Holt's pier was it's name.

Revere Beach Boulevard was lined with eateries, shops and several mini-amusement parks until the Blizzard of 1978. The storm surge with 75 mph winds destroyed it all. It was never rebuilt. You are not from Boston i assume. Maintenance of public parks and beaches is an unknown concept in Massachusetts.
