End of October 2022, I stayed in a remote Buddhist forest monastery, on the east coast of Sri Lanka. It was priceless. I spent most of my days mindful walking with the forest-dwelling monks until I finally realized that this was not just a regular monastery but more like a meditation cave retreat.
You'll get to see the stunning natural surroundings of the monastery, including the caves or kutis where the monks spend most of their time in isolation.
This was a radical change of routine. I had spent the previous five months surfing in Arugam Bay. But the season was almost over and I was injured, so it was time for a change. The monastery is about a 45-minute drive from Arugam Bay. Unfortunately, I can't share the name or the exact location of the monastery because the monks treasure their isolation, but it is not difficult to find.
