We were teenagers the same as you in the 70's. We often say how simple and easy going things were then. As frugal people I can't imagine raising children, buying a home and just covering the cost of living nowadays. God grant us all the wisdom to make the best decisions for our lives. Deb🙏
That`s a nice lot to add to your pantry! One good tip I used to use when I was beginning years ago...when you use 1 can..buy back 2...don`t just replace the one ya used. You will find your supply will increase very quickly! You can do this on just about any foods that are not pricey (basic items). Just keep on going & you will soon be all set for whatever! Hugs & have a blessed weekend!!
Thank you for the tip, IWILL start doing that, I started with my stockpiling when, All the bad things started happening you just never no what tomorrow will bring ❤
Hi Calvin and Marie. My husband and I turned one of our bedrooms into a pantry. We have 3 years of supplies on hand. (Which I rotate often). It's money in the bank as groceries keep going up in price. I buy only on sale and then stock up. My husband and I also grow a garden and can a lot every year. Plus we eat lots of fresh vegetables from it. We have 4 big upright freezers. They all serve their purpose. One for my baked goods, breads, cakes, pies, cookies, chocolate chips, nuts, etc. Another for meat, chicken, beef, pork, fish, breakfast sausage, ring sausage etc. Another freezer for all my frozen vegetables of all kinds. enough for a year. And the last freezer is for convenient foods. Pizza, homemade pot pies, homemade egg noodles. Frozen prepared meals. It's all organized and rotated often. Some people might not agree with us, but we want for nothing. It's here and we are ahead by buying on sale. It must be our generation that we think alike.
We have 2older sons. When they visit, I tell them to take what they need. I watch sales forcthe extra large size toilet paper and paper towels as that always seems ro be whatcthey take. Prepping is good for sons orcothercfsmily members that needcaxhelping hand.
We shop at Wal-Mart grocery too! My husband always go with me to help. It's 98 degrees today here in NC! ...but I still love summer! Wishing you and Marie a blessed week!....Melissa💙💛
Great haul. Nice to be stocked up. Marie, take care, bronchitis is a tough thing. Calvin, you have to need a nice long nap after all that loading the cart, unloading to check out, loading bags in cart, carrying in the house and then putting on the counter to show us...then putting in pantry. Whew, I'm tired thinking about it all. Bless you both. ❤
Hi Calvin and Marie I’m 84 and live alone. I have a very well stocked pantry. I just recently started to stock shelf milk. I got a recommendation about the milk which was a very good one. It is very good for baking, cooking and drinking. Nice cold very good for cereal also.
That was a lot of work shopping, loading into your car, unloading & organizing on the table. Filming a video while doing this adds so much extra work. You actually did get a lot of food for $92.00. I enjoyed the video very much
@@glendasully Thanks very much Glenda. If it wasn't for the video, we would have just ordered on grocery pickup. We are having to look for alternative ways of shopping for sure.
Hello, there, Calvin and Marie that was a wonderful video.Thank you so much for sharing.I like the way you put it when you was talking about the canned vegetables.I've always used my share of them
Good Morning Marie & Calvin,I got here as soon as I was able.I am stocking up on canned goods this next week also.Living in south Texas I am concerned about the hurricane.Have a great week end & take care Marie & Calvin!❤
Good morning Linda. We were just talking about the hurricane coming towards Texas. We're praying that it is nothing more than rain because everyone needs some rain.
I always enjoy your prepping hauls. I really like it when you shop at Walmart. The temperature here in Washington state is 99 degrees. Starting tomorrow & for the next 10 days our forecast is days with temperatures of over 100, Monday is forecasted to be 108. We did Walmart grocery pickup at 8 this morning.
You can put your flour and cornmeal in the freezer to keep it longer. If you don’t have room in your freezer for flour, make sure that you put it in there for at least three days to make sure that it kills any pests that live in flour. You can divide it up into Mason jars and keep it in mason jars with an oxygen absorber on your shelf or you can keep the mason jars in the freezer.
Hi Marie and Calvin. So glad you’re feeling better Marie. We are going to hit 100 today with a heat index of up to 108 it is hot. So grateful and thankful for air conditioning you guys take care and you’re right Calvin we may see some shortages on the shelf, even in the pet stores right now we are seeing holes on every shelf. Talking to the manager he said they just can’t get the stuff in.God bless you both
.96 cents for a great value can of green beans? wow that's crazy. I think it was .62 cents just 2 years ago! Yes, store food for several months if not a a year or more and please pray for America. God bless. 🙏
Don’t just get food to store for a year. That is how you waste money on food that is stored and expires. Just buy more of what you will regularly use and eat and when you replace what you use each week or month, put the newer ones in the back of shelf and always use the ones with closest best buy dates first.
@@lf4061 Im sure they do that already, but it always pays to be pre paired, as everyone should, may I ask what is so wrong with that. its everything they DO use up! And they haven't wasted any money as they use it up, tell me how that is wasting money please? You go by the date on the product use that first off you don't waste any food at all. It's just something everyone would (at least I think, would already know).
Amazing prices in the USA! Not here in Canada...it is crazy high for canned goods. Almost 3.00 for a can of soup so you did great! It is a good idea what you're doing for prepping. Yes, frozen is good but if there is no electricity then at least you have food. Praying that Marie will get her strength back with the heat and all, it's tough. Be safe and God bless you both and America, my good neighbors! P.S- I made your White Poke July 4th Independence Day CAKE today. Wish I could send you a pic! My grandchildren are coming tomorrow for lunch and a swim. Instead of those hard candy decorations, I just made an American flag with sprinkles, red, left the middle as it's already white and blue sprinkles and it looks amazing! Cant wait to try it! Big hugs!
Great prepping haul, Mr. Calvin and Mrs. Marie. A brilliant thing to do. COVID-19 should have been a lesson for all of us, we never know what the future holds. God bless you both, always!
I absolutely loved this video. Very motivating for my wife and I to do the same. We are both 38 and appreciate your wisdom and tips more than you know. Thanks for sharing! Love, Chris & Amanda from Perry
Calvin and Marie, you all are doing an excellent job of prepping your pantry. Now a days we all should be doing that. I hope you all are having a nice evening.❤
Calvin and Marie, just a tip about the flour you want to store. Put the bags in the freezer for about one week to kill any bug eggs in the flour. The freezing will kill anything in the flour so it will not hatch before you use it. We do this here in the midwest and it works. Hope you can use this tip. Thanks for the video.
❤Y’all did a great job prepping on this video! It is a very smart thing to do. Young people many times don’t think traumatic times will come but we older folks know it can and likely will even in our lifetime. This always reminds me of Joseph’s interpretation of Pharoah’s dream. 7 years of prosperity would be followed by 7 years of famine. I am praying for both of you to gain strength and receive complete physical healing. Bronchitis and shortness of breath is really hard to deal with. Even on 3 liters of oxygen I struggle to breathe if walking any distance at all. It could be worse, and it is for many. God bless you both. Love you. 🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️
👋 kids, I sooooo agree to prepare. I've been at it for prox 30 years. With lots of farms going fallow, lack of water retention, heat, and soaring prices, it's just nutso crazy to not stock up. In Tennessee, sales tax is added, nearly 10% BUT August, September , October, NO sales tax. So guess who is going to hit it hard. ME! Tennessee legislation is hoping to do away with the sales tax on food. Hope so. Marie, you'd think the heat would burn the bug out of you ! Great job guys. 🤗 🤗
Calvin, I have COPD so I struggle with being out of breath quite often. Between my breathing and my aching knees and legs, I don't go inside a grocery store very much. I have a Walmart+ membership and get groceries delivered to the house. I know a lot of people like to pick out their own food but Walmart saves me a lot of money and a lot of hassle. I have a rollator that I use. I have found that if I put a plastic bin on the rollator (or my husband's wheelchair), I can roll my supplies to where they need to go. That also makes it easier on me. When I do have to breakdown and go to the grocery store, I make sure I park right beside the buggy return. That's all I have to say, sorry for rambling. Just thought you might want to try the rollator trick. Have a great weekend.❤
99 degrees at 5:00 pm today. I have been doing some prepping too and it is very hard being a senior and just making ends meet. It being so hot, our power bills are going to be awful. If I get down to 1 can, I buy another can to add to my pantry. I have been trying to do better with my shopping. I went to the farmer's market to get some tomotoes and they are really good. It is so hot and you just can not beat a tomato sandwich. I love to take a tomato, onion, and cucumber and put either italian dressing or just vinegar, it is really good. Yall have a great weekend, be looking forward to Sunday chat.
Hello Calvin and Marie, I love when you do the prepping hauls. During the pandemic I know that here in CA there was a shortage of many things and there also was a minimum on some of the items you could buy. Having extra items saved up would have been a good thing. I had extras and I was glad that I did. Take care and stay safe.
Yes, we were well prepared before the pandemic and we didn't have any problems at all. We were able to supply others with T.P. because it was the hardest thing to find around here.
The weather her in S//Fl has been been just about the same . Hate to think what the electric bill will be this month. You two take it easy. Thanks for the the update on your health. Great haul! Joan
A dietician told me that canned fruits and vegetables can be part of a healthy diet. If you're worried about the sodium in the vegetables and beans, you can rinse them off with water or look for low sodium or salt free varieties. We utilize canned vegetables and frozen more than fresh since we have health issues and our fresh might go bad before we can use them.
We’re in low 80s today. We had the coolest 4th ever. Only got to 85. Starting tomorrow..90+🥵 Went grocery shopping this morning, twice what I spent the last couple years. Ridiculous...😕. Nice haul Stay cool and Have a Blessed evening!🌻✨
You are so right Marie, my husband and I are on a set income so if we had not been preppers for a long time we would be in trouble for food. The prices just keep climbing.
I love to watch folks buy groceries and prep. I get a lot of good ideas. I wasn't going to plant anything this year. But I love to grow and I love grounding and the fresh air. But I am watering every other day to keep the plants healthy. I planted 4 various tomatoes, and three green pepper plants. That is plenty for me. My grass looks like straw and we need rain. Make sure you have plenty of water on hand for drinking. And more for toilet flushing and general use. I prep the season ahead, so I will be shopping for fall and winter the next few food orders. Happy to see you both again and glad you are feeling better Marie. Take care, get plenty of rest because heat seems to make me tired. God bless. Great video.
Hello. I am a new subscriber from middle Georgia. So happy to have found your channel. We are having a terrible time trying to keep our garden going. Not near the harvest we had last year, but we are grateful for all God has blessed us with!
Did you realize you bought the seasoned black beans? I mainly see them at WalMart. They are so good by themselves!! I'm 74 and enjoy your videos!! God bless!!
Just a recommendation. Check the cans for dents and sell by dates. Speaking from experience. Also, the vinegar if making pickles, watch it is 5% acidity.
Love you two and enjoy watching! I stock up too and good thing, my garden has had a rough start. I’m hoping it will make a comeback at least my beans, tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers - I’m putting extra energy in those and hoping for the best with the rest of the garden. Glad you are feeling better, stay in and cool and rest a little.
We are 65 and living on S.S. we are going to food pantries at local churches. THEY are so kind and we get nice food. We call it blessing boxes. E.We pray over 🙏 it and thank the good Lord. ✝️. We also share with others. Go get a blessing box.
Love these Food Prepping Hauls. Maybe if you are going to do more of these, you can set up a playlist. You have a "prepping" playlist, but that covers a different type of prepping..or add your food hauls into this playlist too.
Yeah folks, Minnesota farmers are reporting record crop loss with all the flooding we've been having. If this year is scary... next year will be terrifying with shortages and hyperinflation. Come Lord Jesus...
Hi. I like watching what different ppl get at the store. It gives me ideas of some items i never thought of or to use in recipes never thought. Thank you. Enjoy your content. Yall are very calming in your approach to these things and i like listening to other believers in jesus. Again thank you.
I just recently started buying from Wal-Mart on line and picking it up. It is very convenient, they even put it in the car for you! It’s good for buying all your basics!
I am a little late watching and commenting 😊😊 I always live the prepping hauls and videos! You can never be too prepared! Much love ya’ll and take care!!
I enjoyed your channel so much today. You can dehydrate canned and frozen vegetables using repurposed jars like used mayonnaise jars, giving you more room and longer shelf life. I am going to go that route when it cools down. Those things get a little warm. My son bought me one for Xmas. I was wondering how you store your flour and cornmeal safely from bugs. Maybe you could address this on a future show. Love to both , thanks and God bless. Oh, and stay cool. 🤗
Thanks very much Betty. We have a dehydrator and it works great but it is time consuming. For short term storage we keep flour in air tight storage bags but for long term storage we use the mylar bags with oxygen absorbers in n them.
@@SouthernCountryLiving Thanks for the quick reply. I just bought the large size flour and cornmeal, same brand you use. I put them in the freezer for a short time, but wasn’t sure how to store them as they are for future use. I will use the Mylar bags. They say that freezing them first kills any bugs that come with even the freshest flour and cornmeal buys. I am 89 and still learning. These were supposed to be my rocking chair years. 🤭 I prep mainly for my family who aren’t as aware of the need. Hope they are right. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you for this wonderful prepping haul. Now, being our age, it's very hard to go out in this heat, we're in Beaufort sc. My husband and I are getting ready to go to Aldi for our weekly shopping. You two have provided many good tips. Marie, take care of yourself. Get some rest. God bless.
First off, I'm glad Marie is doing better. You both be careful with that weather. You probably already know this but freeze your flour and I think sugar, lasts longer. ❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for taking me along to Walmart! My car is old and so am I and I live an hour away from the closet Walmart. My Walmart shopping days are over, but it's fun to go shopping with ya'll. I'm alone without family or neighbors, but i prep when canned stuff goes on sale. I always buy the "No Salt Added" because I have high blood pressure. That way I can add "Salt Free Garlic Salt" and Lite Salt to flavor. I'm also a diabetic so I'm limited on what I prep. I sure miss my canned peaches!! God Bless you two and take it easy in this heat wave!
I have just found your videos, but very much enjoy them. I like Wal-Mart, but seem to save more money with Aldi and they have everything I need. Blessings to you both!
Good afternoon Calvin and Marie.....what a great haul i do my shopping at Walmart too i get flyers as well, always looking for a good deal ......Feel better soon Marie sending prayers and sunshine 🌞 your way ❤
Marie, you are so wise to look ahead and anticipate the shortages and price increases. If neither one happens, you'll be just as glad to have that extra food on the shelves, but if you had not heeded that wisdom from the Lord and either situation occurred, you would be wishing you acted on that intuition. Keep on prepping! You're doing well. : )
Hi Calvin and Marie , great to watch your video . I'm from Australia 🇦🇺 started really prepping last year. Always bought specials and bought A few items. Now Pressure cooking , steam , as well as the cans. Hope you are getting better Marie. ❤
One thing I like to do, and you might find it useful, is to get some of the empty or nearly empty boxes as I collect what I'm buying. Each box holds 12, and it makes it a bit easier to transfer to the conveyor belt to check out. The boxes are definitely easier to carry than loose cans in flimsy bags, and they stack neatly in your food storage pantry. Wal-Mart is only going to throw them away, so they don't care.
Here in Florida we have been under a heat advisory too and told to stay inside as much as possible and stay hydrated. I feel for those that have to work outside in this heat and hope their job provides lots of water for them. I noticed in the last 2 or 3 years ago that GV brand beans and vegetables went up from 50 cents to almost 90 cents. I like most GV brands. I usually get Pillsbury brand cake mix if it is available for delivery and it used to be around 98 cents or a dollar but now I noticed it is 1.27. Not a bad jump but dang something has to give with these food prices. If I can I buy canned vegetables with no salt added. You did good shopping. You don't have to explain what and why you do. Do what is best for you both.
Hey Debbie, at least we got some rain yesterday and today. It helped cool things off a little. Grass will start growing now and I'll be outside cutting grass this week but I'm not complaining at all.
Hey y'all, I think it's about time for me to go again! I went about the same time y'all did last time. I'm right with y'all when it comes to keeping your pantry stocked. I have a question ❓. Might want to mention it in your Sunday morning chat.... Calvin; have you ever checked on getting a generator? I live in an apartment. We can't have one, but I'm always seeing commercials on those units. You can answer if you want to. But I do know a few family members that have them. Marie. You look great 👍. I never once heard you coughing. I'm so happy that you're on the mend. ❤❤❤ Y'all continue to stay cool. It's definitely not safe for anyone really to be out in this heat 🔥🔥🔥🤒🤒🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🍄🍄🍄🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞 Bye ~ Karen
Thanks very much Karen. We have thought about getting a generator but I've had a lot of experience using generators in the past and they can be a lot of trouble. My friends are always complaining because their generator doesn't work when they need it the most and if it works then it runs out of gas quickly. Solar system is the best in my opinion but I've just never made a commitment to it because of where I would have to put the panels.
@@SouthernCountryLiving . I understand. You were talking about your large trees in the yard also. Well. Just a food for thought!! Lol 🤣. (Food).... Generac is supposed to have one w/o having to use gasoline . And they are not cheap! I also saw that today they have one called Patriot ... I'd have to leave my apartment if I was down for more than a few days.... I wish I had a Homestead. Have a good evening. 🍄🇺🇸
@@user-mv8pc9xt5g Generac is one of the better brands. We were without power one night recently and it sure was hot without the air conditioning. Fortunately for us it came back on during the night.
New subscriber! Such great advice! I’m concerned about the increase in price of food. We planted a garden this year in SC but have had no rain, & the heat is awful. God Bless!
