How good is the Walther LGU .177 Underlever Air rifle? This is a high quality German made rifle put out by Umarex. The .177 is an excellent field-target rifle. The closest competition is the TX200. We will show you the performance and provide you with an unbiased opinion. #staytunedforairgundetectives

Here in England I can tell you the three best spring rifles money can buy and they are all on par with each other. Walther LGU Air Arms TX200 Weihrauch HW97k They are all as accurate as each other just down to individual preference. All three are very tuneable too, and if I had to pick one thing they all have as a slight downside you do need to fit a carry strap as they are all very heavy. But other than the weight 3 best spring air rifles money can buy.

Been using my .22 LGU for 2 years, it's plenty power for here (UK law)... also it's a lot better and consistent than I am, when I bring my best game it's unbelievable. Nice to see it getting appreciation in the US :-)

Hi John. Like a HFT sport shooter I have this masterpiece since 3 years and it’s my favourite spring air gun. I call him MISTER Walter because he deserves it :-) The gun is ideal heavy and accurate. Hi John, awesome review of a very beautiful rifle. It's no secret as to the price on this rifle. The pellet chamber slide and arming mechanism look to be of incredibly meticulous machining. This, in addition to the Beechwood stock, accuracy, and although you didn't mention it, a cold forged steel rifled barrel, add up to quite the package. I find it quite amazing when you consider the amount engineering and technology that go into airguns. This is precisely why appreciate your reviews. On another note, I did purchase the Umerex 850 m2 in .22 caliber after watching your review on the Hammerli 850. I've been teach my wife how to safely handle and shoot a rifle utilizing this gun. It has worked out wonderfully as a training rifle and she is becoming quite the plinkster. She is having a lot of fun and is almost ready to move on to a real Ruger 10/22. Oh, and I almost forgot, I attached the tripods, that I purchased from your website, the 850, and they have helped her immensely to relax and concentrate on her breathing. Thanks again for sharing and God Bless, Greg

That was another great review that we've come to expect from you. I was not aware of the Walther underlever airrifle. The action is almost identical to my HW97K Black Line which also loves the JSB 10.34 grain pellets. The only advantage I see in the HW in the rekord trigger that I have set to break at 13 ounces. Mine is scoped with a Hawke 4-16x50 Airmax mil dot and the gun is my favorite. Always look forward to your reviews. Thanks again.

Wonderful review of an iconic brand, and rifle. Mine is in .177cal and quite accurate. I was trying out different pellets, and actually found the H+N Barracuda Green to be best over all. They were the fastest over the chrony at 1027 FPS. They also had a nice group of 3/4 in. at 20 meters, and a great 1023-1027 FPS over 6 shots. I was totally dumbfounded by these results, but the chrony doesn’t lie. The best lead pellet is the H+N FTT 4.52 at 8.64gr. averaging 910 FPS. Over all the Walter LGU is a pretty decent pellet gun. The Record trigger puts my HW77 on top though. I do wish the metal trigger would have come standard instead of being an extra charge.

mine is a sub 12 (16joules ) version and tuned by tony leach ( skirtless piston , o-ring conversion and trigger job ) ....it shoots my favourite h&n Field target trophy pellets in .177 almost as good as my match gun at 30m ....(30 m is my zero on all airguns ) but compared to the low power (7,5 Joules ) match gun .....it hits sugar cubes up to 50 m consistantly .( on a windless day )....my dream gun .and another good point you mentioned here is to easy of work you can do to it ......compare it to my hw´s which i hate to disassemble ( hw80 / 35) because of the big preload and the diana 48 , which is a pretty awesome gun , till the trigger group comes apart during pre laoding the spring ( very heavy ) and springs and balls and small pieces are flying aroung ...the lgu is a masterpiece of simplicity and efficiency !

THX John. In Europe LGU is available with adjustable butt pad on same stock and as the synthetic stock TH version, called Varmint. Intro very intriguing as ever. Nice underlever, got HW, TX & LGU. Congrats that you got that trigger way nicer set up than I could do mine. Agree that the trigger guard is not shaped handsomely. But why not use it ?! It's called trigger discipline vs BAD habits ! Sorry.
@AirgunDetectives
@AirgunDetectives 4 года назад
It took me a while to dial in the trigger. I had to replace the front trigger screw. Then I went in a lubed up the entire trigger mechanism. I really like it now. I have a really soft and light 1st stage where I can feel it come to the 2nd stage wall. There is no doubt when this rifle will fire. I also recently had a Diana 48 spring laying around so after applying heavy tar, I installed it in the LGU. The 48 spring is the same diameter but had two extra turns making it slightly longer. This kept the FPS up at the same level to make up for the heavy tar on the spring. But what I gained is a very quiet rifle. have absolutely no "Twang" It shoots very crisp!

@@injairgun I just ordered a HW97 in .22 I am a huge fan of the "Rekord" trigger. Years ago when I purchased the LGU there was several articles out that compared the TX200 to LGU and at the time the LGU was simply more affordable. So I might have to recycle the LGU for the 97. I´m so tempted to go ahead and buy this rifle but i already owned a HW 97K and Long version and though they are highly accurate and well made, the weight is just to much in the end. Espicially when you have mounted a scope too. In the end i got tired of it, only able to shoot from a rest. Sold them all, and now have 1 break barrel Hw50s Or hw99S as they are called in UK and a diana stormrider pcp. Stormrider for hunting and hw50s for plinking with iron sights. Looking into air arms pro sport but again the weight is crazy. I would say maximum 3,5 kg with a scope is my limit. All rifles i own is 177.. No need for any bigger, as hunting with an airgun is about shot placement. My Stormrider in 177. shoots JSB Exact Beast 16,20grain at 836 fps producing more then enough power to dispatch any small game with the right shot placement.
