Walther Rotex RM8 **FULL REVIEW** by RACKNLOAD 

Just bought one and seriously impressed. Just been shooting chopsticks in two at 35 yards! and only 1 miss in 11 shots (I only had 10 chopsticks) using a Hawke 3-9x50 Scope and H&N Sport Field Target Trophy on a breezy day with the gun at ~130 bar. Also a Deben Whisper 180 Silencer. Very quiet and I don't think performance and consistency gets much better than this no matter how much you spend. I can find no fault with the rifle, even the weight I find comforting as it makes for a steady hold and the rifle is extremely well balanced.

just bought the rm8 in .177 and can not fault it super accurate and an all round great gun

I have had my rm8 for 2 weeks now I love it , very accurate, good shot count , wth a moderater on all you can hear is the pellet hitting the target, the stiff bolt is fixed by a few drops of oil on it after 200 or so rounds it frees up , fill it to 200 psi , you can fill to 232 but a wast of air , sweet spot from 200 psi down to 90 , about 120 shots , brilliant gun for the money 👍

Nice review chap, I've had mine a couple of months now and it's superb. You can mount sling studs - there is a raised block on the stock under the buddy bottle. A short Jack Pyke stud fits perfectly. I've paired mine with a Nikko 6-24x56 AG IR Nighteater and it easily keeps up with the HW100's and R10's at the range. Best 'bang for buck' rifle on the market at the moment. Fact.

I purchased the "Polymer" version with the longer barrel of this amazing gun a couple of weeks ago (in .177) and boy is it accurate. My only niggle, which is just the one, is the silly "Auto Safety" is enabled every time you reload after each shot is fired. I know how to disable this feature but slowly and surely i'm starting to live with it.

I believe the front sling mounting can be attached. I saw another RU-vid video which showed the rifle dismantled and where the sling / bipod fits the body is much thicker. The stock has to be removed to fit the mounting.

I recently purchased this gun from a friend and he fitted a sling swivel not far past the trigger, and I havent had any problems with it to be honest. Cracking rifle for the money

Hi RACH Found a video on here of the rotex rm8 with a front mounted sling screw. Apparently with the stock taken off there is a ridge of wood/polymer depending on the stock material in front of the air pressure gauge. Did a bit of research as I'm thinking of buying one. Have been recommended one of these by 3 people , so gonna buy one next week end , was told best gun to buy in the 400 bracket , I’m a lefty , don’t like the looks of that buddy bottle , air container , ugly things can work fine and be reliable, I’ve been with the wife 20 yrs now , but back to the gun , need some good value sights and a styrup pump , then good to go, will get pumped up at the gun club , 4 quid a time ,, cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧

Obtaining additional magazines for this gun can be difficult. Here, in the USA, it is nearly impossible. After spending hours on the internet, I finally called Umarex USA and the sales person told me that because the gun is so new, spare metal magazines weren't yet readily available. He did, however, educate me to know that the plastic magazines that are made for the Hammerli 850 Air Magnum, are nearly identical and can be used in either rifle. Since I already own a Hammerli 850 Air Magnum, now I don't have to purchase additional mags for the Walther Rotek R8, as I already have extras from the Hammerli.Why is this important to know? Since the Walther Rotek R8 has such a tremendous shot capability, having extra magazines is almost a requirement, unless you don't mind constantly interrupting your shooting pleasure to reload the one 8 round magazine that comes with the gun.

well I bought one in wood and my first pcp and its just great to shoot the bolt was stiff to start with but its just great had about 2.500 pellets through it and very accurate yes its heavy but I do not shoot vermin any more just target bench rest its reloads just pull the bolt back and push forwards in one movement hell I have fired centre fire with stiffer bolts I get about 80 shots from 232bar fill down to 100bar never been below some say take it down to 70 bar, I am very happy and I have the hw silencer and its whisper only a great rifle and a great barrel

Replacement mags are only about £20. One of the things that influenced me to buy this gun was the simplicity of the mag.

This was my first pcp and it rocks. Comfortable and accurate. Well balanced and a joy to shoot. The price is ideal for a pcp. Get one guys, you won't go wrong.

Hi I have a walther rotex rm8 varmint in .22 and yes you can put a qd swivel stud on the front has a thicker in front of the manometer you take the stock off and dril from the inside of the stock and it works exerlent if you need to know let me know and I will explain keep up the great reviews from a fellow lefty colin

Got to be said the Rotex RM8 is a first rate entry level PCP at the £400 mark - unbelievable accuracy, it really is that good - you will lose accuracy after pressure falls below 70bar but you should be good for 170 shots. it is a bit heavy but that is largely due to the bottle size. For the money you wont go wrong - PCP's are a bit weird, they don't fire like a normal rifle, place the cross hairs on the target, press the trigger and a hole will appear, with a silencer it is very quiet. Top rifle - great review.

Fab review mate. I think this is the best rifle on the market for the money! A had 1 and it took loads of stick for about 2 years great little workhorse.

Load the gun from the right side of the gun , and I thought I was the only one that didn't know they right from they left.

You can sling it there a thick piece of the stock where the bottle meets the action take the stock off and drill from the inside.

Just bought the synthetic stock version, going to fit a Vortex Crossfire 3-9 x 50.

I like the way they put the mag below the scope mount bar .

That bolt looked abit stiff , how glad I am that when I went to the shop , I didn’t buy it ,, when I saw the black plastic , on the stock , it looked cheap , my mate has one in 22 and is very accurate and has been reliable , and a good gun , but I have learned over the last 12 months through shooting lots of different guns , I ain’t keen on bolt actions and much prefer side levers , everyone to there own , cheers Shane

You could mount a sling barrel band on the barrel and do it so it sticks out sideways instead of at the bottom which it cannot anyway due to the air bottle.

Thank you for pointing out that you can't fit a sling on the rifle. I am a weapons designer so I do like a challenge, I'm thinking possibly some sort of Velcro strap around the stock and buddy bottle instead of a stud. I'm thinking some sort of Camo canvas sleeve to go over the gun then a shoulder sling is then attached to the canvas, a bit like a Ghillie suit for a rifle. As regards to the weight of the gun, I really don't know why they can't use Carbon fiber stocks.

You have to take the action out of the stock and drill from the inside of stock to fit the sling

Attention!. The Rotex magazine is made of aluminum and has sharp edges that wear out the o-ring of the loading needle, which causes the rifle to lose accuracy after firing about 100 shots. It is very advisable to remove the magazine, remove the rubber band and polish the edges with sandpaper or a small file. That also ensures that the ring does not break the few shots. In case it is broken or worn, the o-ring is one of viton of external diameter 5 mm and thickness 1.5 mm. You can get it on ebay. The other possibility is to buy the Ammerli 850 boots that are plastic and do not damage the o-ring. While the aluminum magazine is prettier than the plastic, I think Walther should supply the Rotex with plastic magazines, to avoid that because of this problem of finish of the magazine, the rifles lose precision and people think it is something of the rifle, When is the magazine. Atención!. El cargador del Rotex es de alumino y tiene bordes filosos que van gastando el o ring de la aguja de carga, lo que hace que rifle pierda precisión despues de disparar unos 100 tiros. Es muy aconsejable sacar el cargador, sacar la banda de goma y pulir los filos con papel de lija o una pequeña lima. Eso asegura ademas que el o ring no se rompa a los pocos tiros. En caso de que se rompa o este gastado, el o-ring es uno de viton de diámetro externo 5 mm y espesor 1.5 mm. Se puede conseguir por ebay. Si bien el cargador de aluminio es más bonito que el plastico, creo que Walther debería suministrar el Rotex con magazines de plastico, para evitar que por este problema de acabado del cargador, los rifles pierdan precisión y la gente piense que es algo del rifle, cuando es el cargador. Great review, I have just purchased the wood stock one and brilliant first PCP. Only gripe is I dont want to drill the stock to put a bipod on and seeing your video, I want that gun rest caldwell, where can I get one in the UK. Any help would be much appreciated.

U can mount a tripod there's a thick bit of stock just in front of the gauge

please help me..... my air rifle walther rotex ... i have load the pellets with megazine and i shoot clearly, but when i reload the bolt cannot go back,, its stop. i cant load and reload . i think the pellets is in between megagine and the barrel. it cant load. nothing working now,,,, i am very worry. please help me

Mine is terrible, far too heavy to shoot off hand for long periods, can't mount a sling on it or a bipod and the magazine doesn't rotate when you work the bolt. This led to the thing that pushes the pellet into the barrel bending and me sending it back to be fixed, luckily, it was still under warranty. The bulk also makes it a rubbish truck gun as it's awkward to have in the foot well whilst driving round the farm. I think I shall invest in a daystate.

the Walther rotex RM8 shares many parts with an 850 Air Magnum, except for the stock and its fitted with HPA tank.

Sling swivel stud at the front should be easy enough too do ( as long as theres a bit if clearance between bottle and stock .. flat plate about the size of a penny with stud application tacked on too it ..drill hole in stock ..put stud through with from inside .. held in place with araldite type adhesive ..sorted ...

the company says that this airgun gives 180 shots per fill in 16 joules version. ok, but what about the bigger versions?

IMHO, I think you should have used a bigger magnification scope, mate.. I have used a low magnification before, and its not giving the gun its best performance.. anyway, its still a very good review 👍

you can get a RM8 with a walnut stock now.

The worst thing on those are the parts you dont see from the outside, and the trigger. The material used is way to soft. I had the magazine lock scratch the inner parts of the casing and things like the part where the hammer locks tend to wear off.

Can someone please tell me whats the difference between the R8 and RM8 ?? has I can find no reference between the 2, is it that the RM8 is maybe the latest model,also some reviewers say the buddy bottle cannot be removed and only recharged via the under forend valve, others say the bottle can be removed and spare bottles supplied has extras like the rotary mags, handy if your out on a days FT shoot and you can just screw in a fully charged bottle instead of lugging around a divers bottle or a hand pump.

Great gun I have one and it keeps up with my Wolverine b but cheap as chips compared.. Don't think the weight is a problem but I'm a big guy who does manual labour lol :)

17.5gr rws superdomes in a 177????. How is is that my .22 rws superdomes are only 14.5gr Strap studs can be drilled into the internal rib in the front of the stock if you got half a clue on handiwork....

People find it objectionable that part of the RM8 action (front) is plastic and main action is not high quality aluminium, trigger is not fully adjustable and front of fore end is very thin. I think this bottle set-up screams for a stronger, synthetic stock enabling safe swivel mounting and offering more knock resistance. Also it is not clear if one could fit a (different) regulator. Anyone who knows about regging and if so, how to fit ? THX Hendrickotto

Okay for the money not terrible. A lot not to like though. Not sure it’s as accurate as you claim, according to the video footage you shot. 30 yards you should be pellet on pellet, unless you were shooting on a windy day. That bolt action, seems extremely clunky and awkward. I am sure the rifle could be improved with a little bit of fettling and plenty of pellet testing. 👍🏻

I found this to be the worst rip off hack job i ever paid for and its made by armex. I just brought one and taken back to shop within 72h very weak power got a air magnum 850 that out perfumes this peace of crap wish id never seen it. I presumed that with armex combining a walther match barrel with an 850 an stating 16j it would be fine but its not fit for hunting and is as heavy as the logun s-16 mk1 as got one as well and they are about the same only the logun can hunt and shoot up hill as well as down hill :-) sorry armex but ya new RM8 cant even hold its own with my off the self air magnum 850 out preforming her every time same with my bsa ultra se, logun all are better guns than this crap. wants binning

I'm not that impressed by the accuracy on these. I've seen several videos now where the groups shot have been worse than I can get with a springer at the same range (and I'm not that good a shot). I had the CO2 version of this gun and had the same problem with that. At the the time, I put it down to it being CO2 but maybe not. Frankly, I expect any PCP to put all it's shots through the same hole at 30 yards - which all of mine (HW, Air Arms etc) have. Anything less, as above, is poor. So sorry Walther - for me it's a case of "Nice try, but no cigar".
