Chris takes both rifles through a little test at 30 meters. We listened to some of your advice and we put three different varieties of JSB's through each gun - the results are quite something. Take care!
Ive had the r10 and currently own the rm8. And with the right pellet the rm8 is just as accurate. Easily 20 pellets under a pound coin size at 30 yards.
Chris, don't "chase the dot". If the first shot is a flyer, your screwed! Fire at least three before adjusting your aim. All in all, fantastic video! Thanks, again, for the time you put in making these. Kudos!
Hi Chris, thankyou for time, in making your film. Personally, I love the look of the R10. In my humble opinion, BSA are where they should be with this rifle. I'm a great believer in, you get what you pay for. I've heard issues with leaks, with yhe R10's, but this may be an issue in transportation from factory, to individual outlets. They're not allowed to be transported with air inside. So with no pressure inside, the seals may move. When charged up again at the shop/store, obviously, the seals may have moved and won't seal. The Air pressure would have kept the seals in place. If the gunsmith doesn't check them over, there will be air pressure issues. From what I can see from the reviews, the new R12, released on 1st Sept, this year, the action is a one piece block, so hopefully less seals will be required, and less chance of problems. The R10 and R12 both look fabulous kit and when you think, what BSA have done for us, they are where they ought to be in air rifle manufacture. The two BSA's are fabulous air rifles. Thankyou Chris and BSA.
Another useful comparison test, both great guns, but I'm not sure the R10 is worth the extra cost, for my money I would buy the RM8 as it seems superb value. Thank you for taking the time to bring us these vids. Subscribed.
Dear Matt. I agree with you. The RM8 is one of the best, if not the best, value for ANY money gun that is on sale here in the UK. Such a fantastic tool. You are most welcome - it is nice to hear that people value this content. Thank you for the subscription. It means a lot!
Just some thoughts, having watched a few back to back tests now as I'm in the market for a PCP. Even though you have the rifles in a gunvice, your table is wobbling all over when you reload, and I can see it move when you fire. The trendy stick on targets look great but the traditional 25 metre type of target make it much easier to measure a group size. Watching holes appear in a piece of paper in real time gets tedious - how about speeding the video up (like Bloke on the Range does) till we have a group shot? Interestingly I owned one of the first RM8s, and used JSB Exacts - but it was the pellet head size that could make a very noticeable difference to accuracy and grouping, as I tried three different sizes to get the best match to the barrel; could you perhaps mention pellet head size where it is known? I hope that can be taken as constructive, not a moan or a troll. Having watched your vid, I'd be happy to spend my £ on the RM8 though! Take care.
I have the RM8 that the shop recommended for my budget. A bit heavy. But I love it. Great video. Love the way you say you don't care. That's what it's all about. It's personal.
I think this shows the importance of your projectile and it’s weight...it also shows how good the rm8 really is...I think that the rm8 will shoot as well at that range with the bisley magnums....so many variables in this sport which keep it interesting.great job again👍👍👍
Thank you for another informative and fun video. I have a R10,had it for around 5 years or so and I love it, I recently bought a Gamo coyote for £385 new i believe it's made in the BSA factory? the accuracy is on par with the R10 which is brilliant for the price. I bought a (sample pack) of pellets and found the rs super domes work well in it. thanks again please keep them coming :)
Dear Mr. James. I believe you are right, the Gamo brand are supported/manufactured by BSA - so it makes sense that the Gamo is so good! I would like to try more pellets, but it really is a case of the resources! I always keep a healthy stock of JSBs that work with my Daystates - but I will branch out into more in the future. Thank you for your support!
@@cockneykevan1 hi I have a 22 and It does make quite a bark with out a moderator, I had a regulator fitted which increased it's performance considerably,
My BSA R10SE ( FAC) shoots everything excellent above 10gr. It has a longer barrel, 19 inches. I get 50 shots, or 30 for the tightest extreme spread. 10.65gr running around 885fps average. SD 3 to 5. Its deadly accurate and totally reliable. Hi from the USA.....🎯
I did notice in your vid is that the rotex shots sometimes cracked off louder shots which is when you got the flyers. It could be your mike or was it inconsistent with the air release. Thanks for your review 👍
Nice video mate. M owning both the r10 and the rm8 and agree with you👍. But the r10 and the bucaneer which I have is still moi favorite guns of all time.
pellet diameter is very important , i can fire air arms 5.52 through s410 and titan manitau with good results the titan also likes h&n ftt 5.53 but the s410 does not like those at all and both a walther barrels wether they are the same rifling i don't know? i would imagine that lead hardness is a factor too depending on how many rifling groves they are and how deep ?
good video and love these comparisons, nothing to apologise for the last portion of the video, the scope is good for hunting with a .22 LR out to 100 yards , but not much chop for target shooting accuracy with an air riffle, in the time you gave yourself, but good effort all the same. The video has also pushed me towards the BSA R10 . would ideally want to know the ideal pellet over 10 yard increments 20 -50 y. pretty sure your followers would be interested as well.... willing to help
I am still refining the formula for testing guns, and although I don't think I could do exactly what you suggested I will try and do something similar in the future.
My question was right between these two weapons, in the end I decided the BSA R10SE, over the Walter Rotex R8. The R10 groups in a magnificent way, but I noticed that Walter's stock has a small picatiny rail at the end of the stock that does not have the R10 does not have and that is missing to be able to mount a bipod, for the rest I do not regret having chosen the R10 Saludos desde Chile
Only problem with PIO matching POA is once you lose your aiming mark the group always open up, that why benchrest shooter alway aim off; keeps the groups tighter 👍
I have both. The r10 stock is stunning. Its slightly more accurate , but does jamb now and again. The magazines are a little finicky on how they're loaded. The rm8 isn't as pretty, the bolt is more clunky, but it's never jambed up on me. And doesn't get fliers like the one you've reviewed. But it is an older style one with wooden stock.
I had a .177 r10 aadf were great in it, jsb exact had to be 4.52 otherwise it was a shotgun. It didn't like anything heavy . Love the honest way you present, subscribed too
I know it’s not practical- but a wider choice of pellets is needed for a gun v gun comparison and there are so many other factors like were the pellets all weighed and shot by weight grouping? Ergonomics- of the individual Rifle-not just shooting from a rest (which looks extremely wobbly!) are important comparisons, a single shot tray would also be fairer as some mag systems mangle pellets more than others . A fairer tardy would be a Weirauch KT100 against the BSA
To eliminate unconscious bias in pellet comparisons, it would be a good idea to have someone else load your magazines and fire blind (as it were). A lot more confidence in results would be gained that way.
Every time you pulled back I watched the tip of the rifle barrel and on both guns the positioning “even with shooting stand was very unstable and never seemed to return to its original point…..that has to make a difference.
I've used the Express 7.87gr & the Heavies 10.34gr in my S200AA & the HW-97K, been using them as my standard amo for the longest time! Yes, it is incredible how important it is to find the right pellet for your airguns! That R-10 BSA is beautiful AND with the right amo, I'm sure it would be a pellet on pellet rifle for sure. Nice video thx! :-)
Try using target's with a bullseye no bigger than the size of the pellet. A few clicks on the windage of your scope will stop the bullseye being destroyed. Take a look at pellet sample packs on eBay if you want more options when testing. Take your time shooting. Considering getting a bubble level to make sure you are not canting the rifle. 👍
Exactly the same as my R10 , except mine dislikes ALL JSBs , Biz Mags in mine .. it's the only ones it likes ... the .22 on the other hand is happy with any quality pellet .. strange , but true .. subbed
This was my conclusion too when I owned an RM8 - 4.53mm heads were markedly better. FWIW you can buy them in sampler packs of 25 pellets to reduce the cost of trialling the different head sizes.
My ultra in 177 does not like jsb magazine fouls one in 15 shots Change to h&n ftt amazing transformation, well done Chris. I actually think until you find the right pellet for a particular gun these tests are not fair on the gun and more to the point not fair on the person who is after buying a particular gun
Les, you again raise some very important points. The pellets you mention are coming up in conversation a lot - and I will be ordering some soon. Thank you for your continued support. I always like it when you leave a message. Take care!
I find with PCP air rifles they are all pretty accurate there not that much differance in them , it tends to be in qaulity of stocks and triggers ect , but i would never pay over £600 for a air rifle i just dont think the performance out of a £1000 plus air rifle like a daystate or FX is all that much better to be honest . Its the same with Rim fires as well my £325 Cz452 easliy keeps up with rifle that cost triple that.
I own both in .22 and can say with the right ammo at 30 yards both are tack drivers. I shoot pest up to 60 yards with my R10 but not tried the R8 at that range on live prey. If I had to choose one it would be the R10 but the R8 is far cheaper gun so maybe better value. Pays your money and take your choice.
I'm in 2 minds about getting the RM8 or the Gamo Gx40. I heard the Gx40 is freakishly accurate but has a shot count of 70 before needing a refill but the RM8 has a 180 shot count. Which one would you recommend?
The RM8 DOES NOT HAVE A SHOT COUNT OF 180!!!! Sorry for shouting, but it's important to understand that it's closer to 100 to 120. I'd still pick the RM8....
@@southwestshooters I have seen them both as a kit with similar optics but the RM8 is around £285 more expensive. Worth the price difference? Sorry I'm new to air rifles but recently tried a friend's R10 and it was so damn good but above my budget I'm afraid.
@@southwestshooters based in Bristol was looking online at Vector air rifle kits and the Gx40 has a good deal for £499 which I'd say is the sweet spot for me
@@Whoshotmyrifle awesome. I'd say that was a sensible idea. Alternatively, give crack shot a call and simply ask for James, tell him that Chris from SWS suggested that you call and see if you can work something out.
I've been looking at buying a RM8 but I'm not sure now and I'm quite disappointed in the R10 I thought this gun was really accurate considering its twice the price
They are both far more accurate (conditions depending) than they came across in this video ,I'm sure indoors he would have tightened them up considerably.
My criticism of that is that the table you were resting your garden I’ve noticed it quite a few times moves it wasn’t stable enough it wasn’t solid enough and I think that’s why you were getting the groupings that you were getting that’s my opinion LOL
@@nigelbase1196 I had a BSA Se before the rm8. I Didn’t think it built as bsa’s used to be built. Rm8 handles better, you get more shots per fill and the Rm8 is just as good as if not better at a better price.
@@southwestshooters it is cheap then I must admit I'm not a fan of the plastic trigger but apart from that seems a good rifle. Good review mate just subbed 👍
Im not being rude fella but you aren’t exactly delicate with your reload style “I mean that respectfully” just look at the silencer tip when you pull on the bolt and it never seemed to go back to home/post sighting position….just an observation……love the channel either way.
@@southwestshooters can I say I’m now the proud owner of a as new BSA r12 CLX pro with a optisan evx scope it has two improved 12 shot mags so I’m expecting great things its the side lever version.
@@cockneykevan1 I am sorry, I won't be able to as I don't have a ticket for FAC! I can only speculate that one of these in FAC would be awesome, but I don't think I will be able to review one.
Usually light pellets for springer's and heavier for PCP with exceptions of coarse! If you suddenly get a shotgun patern always check the suppressor is tight and the internals are tight as most are can be stripped so check both end caps and remove the silencer and check with a torch for lead marks on the inside edge of the exit end, You did not mention head sizes, unfortunately for our wallets this is a pain but so worth it buy a couple of mixed test sets, Generally Weihrauch 4.51 or 5.51 in .22. Air Arms 4,.2 or 5.52 in ,22. FX toss a coin! BSA variable from model to model and I will stop there as your probably bored by now, call me a know it all but I am 60 and been shooting for at least 50 years including firearms the silencer problem happened to my Father in laws .22 rim fire and he was pulling his hair out, when I wandered in and showed him the lead marks he was delighted it was fixed but I think he hates me! I don't know which part of the country you live in but would love to meet up for a shoot.
At 30 meters I wouldn't call any of those groups particularly good and certainly not exceptional, I've used both the R10 and the RM8 both are capable of far better accuracy than you can shoot.
@@southwestshooters hello 1m 73 years old not used to computer,s e mail and modern tec but i have had air rifle,s since 1961 i have been camping all over uk never bought meat on any trip got my own and still own around 8 rifle,s to old now but opinions are like ass hole,s evryboddy has got one
Great review! Thanks for doing some pellet testing. It makes such a difference! R10's are great, especially the Super Carbine you've got. I'd go for the black soft-touch version, just so you can be a little more carefree when in the field - wouldn't want to damage that lovely Minelli Walnut. Maybe you could get your hands on an HW110K as another slight upgrade from the Prof's RM8? Really enjoy your work! Shoot well and stay safe. Grey
Thank you sir. I will see if I can get a HW110 or HW100 to do a comparison. I think that would be a wonderful idea! Thank you for your kind words. I have been struggling to find motivation to keep making videos, but nice comments inspire me to continue! Take care.
@@southwestshooters I enjoy the vids! Looks like you and the prof have a good deal of fun. I’m in the process of try to tempt another young dad in my village towards buying an air rifle - I’d love a shooting buddy. Hunting on your own is great but a plinking buddy would be just as welcomed. 👍
Don’t use jsb pellets in testing as they are not the best for quality control. I test with mainly Bisley/H&N these days(namely LRG, baracuda ft/8, FTT).
There you have it folks the super carbine is rubbish over a standard r10 lol ive never seen groups that bad since i had my r10 super carbine hence why i sold it and my r10 mk2 now the worse groups are like the r10 in this video at its best groups lol
To cut a very long story short.................simply buy an FX Maverick .25 tuned at 65fpe & 33grn ZAN slugs.............everything you could want from an airgun.
I think you are being slightly ignorant here John. Firstly, someone might enjoy knowing that despite the price difference, the RM8 still holds it's own against the R10. This might be valuable for some people to know. Secondly, not caring what I think is something you are totally able to do. Either way, you are the one who took the time to tell me how you don't care, so I guess, realistically, you must care - because you took the time to comment. Still, thanks for continuing to feed what has been, by some margin, my most popular video ever.
