I own an rm8 (Woodstock) my son owns the BSA. We both agree they each have thier pros and cons. I would agree the rm8 is better at targets the bsa is lighter and more suited to hunting. Loudness, the bsa is definitely louder without a mod on. But with the mods we have the bsa on my sons and umerex on mine, the bsa is quieter. I feel they are pretty balanced as in which is best, but like I said both have their own pros and cons.

There are two things about the RM8. Firstly it is a heavy beast, rather like a quality springer. However, not being a recoiling rifle the weight does it no favours as a farmyard gun. Secondly the bolt is a bit stiff and graunchy from new. They need running in and therefore the gun is a better used buy than new. They are of course very accurate as you would expect with a Walther barrel. The Ultra is a superb farmyard/hide gun. Nicer than a bullpup in my view. Very pointable as you say. Also the bolt is butter smooth and the trigger superb. In plastic stock the prices of these two are similar. Definitely a horses for courses comparison. I enjoyed it.

Great video Chris, thank you. Having bought a springer to get into airgunning a few months ago (day 1 of a two week family isolation for you know what) I took the plunge 4 weeks ago on a PCP. I had been looking at the BSA Ultra CLX but then realised i needed bottle, filler probe and a few other bits and pieces sand the costs started escalating. My local gun shop (Range and Country, Sleaford) recommended I take a look at the RM8 and I’m glad I did. Did my reading and went back a few days later, and made the purchase in a “kit” with hard case, pellets, targets, filler bottle, probe and silencer. I wanted the shorter version (UC) so they even swapped a UC stock with the beech wood stock for me to give me exactly what I wanted! I’m really pleased with it, it’s solidly built, consistent, accurate and looks fantastic. I’ll recommend them to anyone because the quality and performance for the price is insane. Love your videos, keep doing what you’re doing as the “just a bloke like you” approach really works compared to a lot of the other guys out there. Always look forward to your videos and am obviously a subscriber. Cheers!

I've seen reviews with more bells and whistles and reviews that were more entertaining, but that wasn't what I was looking for at all when I typed in walther rm8 vs bsa ultra clx. I've been looking at both recently (having not shot or even held either) and whilst innately knowing they would exhibit comparably similar performances i didn't think that i would actually be able to find a direct comparison on RU-vid, being that they are both effectively middle range guns for their respective brands in terms of pricing and features. Thank you for the clear, concise, no bullshit review. A little bit more info on the guns would have been appreciated, but im aware of the specs already and for what I was looking for, that wasn't really needed.

Really enjoyed the comparison. For me the CLX is the better all-rounder for my purposes, though really good to see what the RM8 is like (I think the weight puts me off more than the length!) Impressive 50m target shooting at the end of the video!!
@jameskemp5911
@jameskemp5911 2 года назад
A very informative video, thank you, I think its definitely the BSA Ultra after watching this though. Reason being it just looked superior in build quality, especially the trigger etc. Also the 50m shots was impressive. I would use it as an all rounder but perhaps more for pest control. The BSA looked ideal for that but the RM8 not at all.

Very interesting. I am now somewhat glad I first chose the rm8 beech over the Ultra. Most of my shooting IS target work, but you are 100% correct that it is NOT a gun designed for long term free holding. I do a bit of pest control, and it is a lot harder with the RM8 then my lightweight Co2 rifle for this, however, it is deadly accurate. I am now, however, really tempted to get the ULTRA purely for sporting because it just looks so god damn comfortable :)

A really interesting review, thank you. I’ve only recently spoken with Crack Shot about purchasing a BSA Ultra CLX. It seems to be the ideal PCP for my needs and as I already own two other BSA’s all be it springers, feel reasonably confident in the brand. My concern creeps in with slightly longer term ownership of this model because as you too have mentioned, I’ve read some horror stories and opinions of this PCP. Am quite sure Crack Shot would sort out any warranty issues but I’d rather not have the hassle in the first place and right now I’m wondering whether I should take the chance. I wonder if all PCP’s are less reliable than the simplistic break barrel springers…..?

Owned both but prefer the Ultra. A few hours in the field and the RM8 is a dead weight. My Ultra has silky smooth cocking action, the RM8 was notchy and felt as though the pellet probe was forcing the pellets into the barrell. I've used both for about a year each, without doubt the BSE Ultra for me.

Can't really comment on the comparison test , yes , I've seen many reviews and tests on probably ALL models of the RM8 , BUT it ain't the same as actually shooting one , obviously ( as you know ) the Mrs owns the CLX and with that I know it's capabilities , so yeah it's a good comparison test , but has another subscriber has mentioned , a similar test with the heavier 10.34 JSB may deliver closer , if not different results .. even in HADES form , although I've tried the Hades in all my .177's with no descent groups to report ..

My friend has the RM8 and loves it but it's just too heavy for me as I have weakness on my left side due to nerve damage 😬 I was loving the look and feel of the Air Arms S510 carbine but then I saw the BSA Ultra CLX on a website and the fact it's so light made me think I should go with that? 🤔 It will be my first rifle and I am not looking to kill anything, though Magpies might become a target if they annoy me enough 😆 From reading the comments it seems that the pellets make a difference to the grouping? The Air Arms and the BSA both look beautiful to me 😍 I have yet to try the BSA with regards to holding it but am thinking it could be good for me 🤗 Thanks for the video Chris 👍🏻

Hi Chris. Amazingly I bought a CLX on the date you have above. Now today after having great fun with it over the last months I've got the MTC Range finder which looks like adding to the fun. In the App it asks for the TPI of the rifling or how many turns per inch. Not sure why it needs that, but just in case I'd like to fill that box. Any idea as to what that could be. The info is not on the sheet that came with the gun, so I'm not sure if there is one standard or other options. Best Dave ( a subscriber )

Looked at the rm8, not a fan of the plastic, liked the bottle. Try a regulated bsa with a pellet that suits and you'll put pellet on pellet at 40 as well as hitting the self resetting target. I've got an R10 ratworked in .177, so silent you'd think it hadn't fired and is an absolute tack driver. It has a buddy bottle the same shape. Had the non ratworked in .22 and that was just as accurate. I'd pick it over a few I've tried including air arms, weirauch and fx.

why didn't you use paper target at 50 yards for a final "shoot off" for the guns?, it could of made for a more solid argument for vermin vs target shooting rifle. good point on the free hand compatibility but the RM8 does have a shorter barrel option for a truer comparison. Interesting video, i own both of these in .177 and the CLX is the better (for me)of the two guns in terms of accuracy/groupings. There is some interesting information on the UK airgun forum about the RM8 and that it is more or less unserviceable when or if the reg fails! How true that is i do not know , just what a very experienced moderator of that forum wrote so dont shoot me down on that! ( he banned me for life from the forum for questioning his views on the RM8, and he is often referred to when anyone mentions one). TBF to him he takes some fantastic photos along with some very in-depth information including full strip downs and its well worth a look. AGF user "cloverleaf".

If you are looking strictly for that massive shot count, from my experience you would be looking at an FX. One of the following models.... The Maverick, impact mk2 or mk3. However, I'm only making these suggestions based on the shot count. I'd suggest a daystate every single time. Especially the Red Wolf. You won't get 600 shots, but you can get 300 plus... I am unaware of any other make that I have actually used that have a massive shot count. Perhaps look at the Uragan?

I can't in any way promise that.
