Today we take a look at a rifle that has won awards pretty ever since it first hit the shelves, the Wather Rotex. But is it really that much better than the competition? Let's find out!
Hi Dan, I have the RM8 bought 2 years ago in 177 tested by the gun shop at 11.8 ft lbs Have tested 14 makes of pellet and found Air Arms Diabolo Field 4.52 gives the best accuracy at 11.5 ft lbs I am 74 years of age so do find it heavy but don't carry it far (used for shooting rats & Rabbits) I get a group inside 3/4 inch at 32 yards from a bench rest in the garden. I pump it up to 200 bar then shoot 3 mags (24 shots) then pump it up to 200 bar again this takes 30 strokes of the hand pump that I at 70 kilo can manage without having a heart attack (yet) lol note the first 5 -6 strokes of the pump are easy as it's only filling the short fill lead up to the pressure of the gun.
As usual .. a brilliant review ... The thing about this rifle that impresses me the most , is the rounded shape of the buddy bottle ... how nice would that look on ( say ) an R10 where the bottle seems chopped off for want of a better word . Accuracy on the RM8 is very good id say .. it really WAS blowing an hoolie out there , The trigger I can't comment on , you really need to use it too form.an opinion .. Looks are subjective ... I personally think the wooden stock would look the mutts nuts , there was I believe some laminated stocks with the RM8 action in at the shooting show at the NEC February , BUT , over a Grand in price ... HELL NO .. no way , Basically its a " budget too mid-priced " PCP .. and it sits there beautiful in that bracket .. stuffing a £500 + laminate stock on it is like putting suspenders and stockings on Diane Abbott .. and who the hell would buy into that ? Great review Dan ... looking forward too the next. ..
Hahaha I need to steal that Dianne Abbot analogy. You're 100% right on the laminated Rotex, granted they've supposedly updated a lot of the internals as well but at the end of the day it looks like a Rotex, feels like a Rotex and probably tastes like a Rotex. No one will see £1000+ as a good investment on what is essentially still a Walther Rotex, a PCP that uses the action of a Co2 rifle. This isn't a knock on the RM8 at all though it's a great PCP but at £1000?! No chance! Thanks for watching Mark.
This is the first time I've watched one of your reviews and have to say it was the best I've seen on RU-vid by far👍 Straight in there with valid info, no music, to the point and covered everything possible. Spot on so I've subscribed. Keep up the good work 👍
Your on the ball Dan, with the reviews, nearly bought this gun instead of my Phox, but under the shop light ,in plastic it’ looked very cheap , don’t look so bad in sunlight on ur vid, and the gun is heavy especially in the middle cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧
Same i ended up buying the phox instead. Didnt like the handling of the rm8 to dam heavy for long days hunting. Glad i baught the phox lovely little gun..
Just to note that this rifle is also available with a traditional rifle stock in wood, I prefer traditional. On the pistol grip stock you have to release your grip to turn off the safety each shot. On the traditional stock it is easily done with the thumb without moving you hand from firing position. The older versions with the trad stock also don’t have auto resetting safety, instead you can turn it on or off at will. If you prefer this to the auto resetting, it is an easy modification if you are comfortable opening up the main mechanism, removing 1 part, cutting off a small plastic nub and then replacing part and reassembling.(detail can be found online). A limited edition was also available with the trad wood stock painted in a realistic woodland camouflage. Very similar to one of he cammo duct tapes. So you can go full sniper mode if you want. The stocks are interchangeable but be aware the, the trad stock is a direct fit to the mechanism, however the pistol grip stock requires a small plastic bracket to be fixed to the mechanism before it I’ll fit into the stock. This is because of the position of the pistol grip requiring the rear mounting screw position to be moved and the screw lengthened. So if you buy a pistol grip stock to replace a trad stock make sure you get the adapter and screws. It may be that the new varmint version with the plastic stock has a different design mechanism but it seems unlikely to me considering the the mechanism has appeared in two other models of air rifle basically unchanged. Hammerli 850 & AirDominator 1250. Perhaps someone can quickly drop the mechanism out of the stock on a Varmint and see if it has the plastic adapter screwed onto the rear mounting screw thread. Another hint to note, if you prefer to have a picatinny mount for your scope to the dovetail fitted, search Amazon or eBay for dominator 1250 picatinny, as walther make a custom adapter that gives you a good as standard fitting full length picatinny rail. The earlier version has a smaller ball shaped bolt lever, this is easily replaced with The current style seen on this rifle. Also the e Allier versions came with a removable barrel weight that slipped on the end of the barrel and was secured with a small grub screw. It did not interfere with the 1/2 unc threaded silencer fitting. Incidentally the weight does improve the accuracy a bit. Steve
Nearly bought the rotex, but as soon as i picked it up and felt the weight realised was not for me. I eventually opted fo a second hand air arms s410 which I have recently sold on to a friend, a decision i'm regretting already.Thank goodness I still have my s400 - single shot, but always more accurate than the s410. Keep up the good work. Always look forward to your reviews.
Hi Mikey, I can't blame you for that decision mate the Walther definitely has some heft. The AA's are tremendous rifles you'll never go too far wrong with them. They may be unregulated but when you look at the consistency they're spot on. Thanks Mikey!
I have the second version with the auto safety, did clean up the action and have no problem with the trigger.did not know about the moisture trap so will address that, thanks for the info! Accurate as hell although a bit heavy, my first PCP and doubt you could do better for the money especially second hand. Shot count is Good to boot. Used last night so timely review, have a hugget atom silencer to keep neighbours happy. .
Hi Harry! Yes mate a moisture trap is an absolute must with these. They're a nice rifle but the trigger on our example was inconsistent which did put me off somewhat.. I tend to get a bit too particular when it comes to triggers haha. For the money they've got a ton of potential in them though especially as you've said if you can pick one up used and you're willing to work on the trigger. Good move on the silencer too mate... they can bark can't they? Cheers Harry!
Let's keep in mind what the base of the Rotex is - this is factory version of an PCP 850 AirMagnum with an improved stock design. So action vise it all the same parts and fixes - and if you bothered by a particular setting of the safety it is easy to change. Same goes for the trigger, either an after market one or adding a little glued on wood nail shaft as step to the factory trigger shelf corner. The reg looks like it derived of the 1250 with an added filling port and manometer. But that all its is, just as you show so well in your great review.
Second episode that didn't show up on my notifications , but thankfully I spotted it after I'd watched the "Hold's " episode , I don't know whats going on at YT but I guess they've got problems the same as everyone else . Cracking review as always , You are definitely one of My favourite air gun reviewers , straight shooting & straight talking just as it should be right up there with Giles and Andy , Have You seen Airgun 101 ? (Daft question really) Keep up the good work Stay Safe Stay Well .
Hi Richard! Thanks for leaving the kind comments mate it means a lot. I'm not sure about the straight shooting bit though haha. Lets just hope that we'll be shooting straight on our Eclipse vs 77 finale video! (we can't let those Germans win now can we?) Thanks ever so much Richard!
Just did a pigeon at 85 yards with my 40 odd year old Webley Vulcan .22 springer & Hawke 3-9 x 50 Scope. I've been shooting from 19 years old - I'm now 63+.
Hi Martin. That was one helluva shot! I love the old Webley Vulcan.. back when Webley's were proper Webleys. You need to try the Eclipse it's a wonderful rifle.Pretty too!
Thanks Dan, great review mate, i had one but traded it in, the Accuracy was Bang on using A/A .22 cal, but like you say was to heavy for me lunging it around all day, and i fiddled with the trigger a bit, but like you found it ok then creeping , so she went, Cheers ans stay safe mate,
Hey Casper. They've got so much potential but they're let down by that trigger. I plan on doing another test with the Rotex around the farm where we're a bit more secluded from the wind as to be fair it wasn't really a fair test in comparison with our other rifles. Thanks Casper!
Hi Dan great reviews your spot on the only thing I would suggest you try air arms diablo 16g I find these pellets are super accurate in this gun .I've just had a new regulator fitted after 4 years at a cost of 125£ fitted it's shooting a tad over 11ft lb it shoots like new if not better I've never had trigger issues with the gun. Look forward to more of your vids Vince new subscriber take care stay safe and a very happy Christmas and new year 🇬🇧🐀🐀
Hi there, great review on this one. I have the same gun (RM8, but the barrel on mine seems a bit longer for some reason). Anyway, on the pellet test, I was very surprised that you didn't include the Air Arms Diabolo Field, my gun loves them. If you are familiar with the Jack Pyke 14cm targets, they have 5 targets on the one card. On an accuracy test, I hit 4 bulls in 4 shots with the 5th shot hitting between Bull and the next outer (8). using AA DF's at 25 yards. However, that was indoor range resting on a bipod. if I could upload the photo on here, I would. The scope used was Hawke 4-16x50. Group shots were using AA DF';s against the Superdome's. No contest, full magazine in AA DF's was covered by a 5p piece with just a little 'nibble' showing out from under the coin. Full magazine with the Superdome's, I couldn't cover the group with a 50p piece. Again, all done at 25 yards bipod rested.
Hi Dan, cracking review again, I have the later version in 177, my trigger was fine straight out of the box, auto safety was a pain to start with but got used to it now, at 35 yd’s it’ll punch the centre out of a target, at 70 yd’s golf balls of the rack easy, and we have a bell about the size of a coffee mug at 107 yd’s hit that 3 times on the trot last time at the range, accurate oh yes, heavy, not after the Walther LGU, mags a pain if you lose count though that’s my only gripe with it.
Hi there bro,I find that if I loose count just look at the left side of the mag if there's an empty chamber as you cock the rifle at 10 o clock position you've got 2 shots left that's what I've picked up using mine in. 177 atb Dave
Hi Lynden! I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your Rotex mate. It seems to be a luck of the draw thing regarding the trigger as some seem to love theirs whilst others are like ours on the review. Out of the box they can definitely be heavy. That's a good point about the mags but other than that I do love their simplicity. No tools required unlike the Artemis mags just poke those pellets home. Cheers mate.
👋🏾Dan I have the older non automatic safety with a longer barrel in 177. I did a review of the gun on my channel. I also have the rotex 22 wood stock. Both are tack drivers out to 50 yards. Still have to do a review on the rotex 22. Keep up the good work. Stay safe you and family brotha 👊🏾😎
Hey mate. They're not a bad rifle are they? I bet those 50 yard shots with your power levels look a bit different to mine. What are they running at out of the box across the pond mate? Over here they're difficult to adjust due to the "Unique" anti tamper they're fitted with. Cheers bud and keep the videos going you've got a really interesting selection there. Look after yourself mate and all the best to you and the family.
@@airgunspestingch.8426 I'm not jealous.. Not at all.. sub 600fps is perfectly fine. But 730fps must be bliss haha. Excellent numbers there bud and thanks for getting in touch. When the lockdown ends I'm heading to the U.S!
Brilliant review Dan i too have the same rifle and was surprised to see yours with trigger issues, the trigger on my gun performs well but i had underpower issues. The gun was shooting at 9foot pounds so I had to place a 0.01 washer on the regulator to bring the power up to 11.6 I get a 5p group at 45yards with jsb diabolo 18g pellet and h&n 21g slug. Brilliant video Dan really enjoyed it. Can you please review the .177 red wolf midnight blue? I've got my eyes on one and wanted to know if they are as good as people say. Thank you so much 👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Luis! Ours had an inconsistent trigger but they're a nice rifle the Rotex, I'm not personally a fan of the way they're constructed (very fiddly) but you can't argue with the results, especially yours! I'll see if I can get my hands on the midnight blue Wolf and put it through its paces for you. Thanks Luis and all the best.
I've got the original R8 before Audi piped up, mines 22cal and as accurate my wildcat mk2 and my aa ultimate sporter, not quite standard as my reg died and I now run a paintball regulator and 300ml bottle. If I could post a piccy I would, she's a proper Frankenstein but still a walther at heart 👍🏻👌🏻. Great video as always 👍🏻👍🏻 what's next to look forward to???
Hi Chris! That's the achilles heel of the Rotex and always has been.. the darned regulator, I had to mention it in the video as if anything on these fail it's usually them. It sounds like an interesting rifle you've got there mate and with the bigger bottle and new regulator to be fair it probably performs better than the standard rifle I'd imagine. As to what is coming up next... I'm tempted to do a.177 vs .22 video as we've got two Artemis M16's in both calibres that are screaming to do a calibre comparison video. The only downside is that at the moment we don't have two identical springers in those calibres neither and I'd love to test those with different holds too. I'll see what I can dream up next. Cheers Chris!
@@bigdansairguns83, if my R8 had sidelever cocking it would be amazing ( very much a fan of that). As for a springer comparison, I'd love to see the weihrauch 95k in 22cal v 177cal. I know they'd both be accurate but which was the more hold sensitive and easier to shoot etc, I could guess the answer as I own a 177cal. Took over a year but now it's more than pcp accurate 👍🏻
Great review Dan, how about a review in .177 cal on a latest model smk pr900 PCP with the screw on silencer, and see if the old issues have been addressed too? Also the .177 gamo silenci or similar model kit for pcp beginners first PCP, would make a good review too. Keep up the good work mate !
Hi Brian! Thanks for the idea mate, I was thinking about reviewing the new PR in .177 but we'd already reviewed the older model in .22. Still though I guess we could skip a lot of the boring stuff and just do a ton of shooting instead. Sounds like fun to me!! I'll see if I can get my mitts on the Gamo but It'll have to be after the lockdown I'm afraid. Cheers Brian and I hope you're keeping well.
Hi Dan, loving the reviews, I have an earlier wood stock. 177, loves jsb exact 4.50's pellet on pellet at 40 yards. Always used a pump but never bothered with a moisture trap, now will be spending some isolation time rebuilding the regulator! Hope to visit you in the near future once the madness is over... Thinking a m22 mk ii might be in order? 🤔
Hi Craig, The Rotex is a lovely rifle but you definitely have to be careful with the moisture getting into the reg.. they corrode very easily compared to some other rifles on the market. You'd always be welcome down this way mate once the lurgy has passed and if we have an M22 available now the weather is nice you can take it for a whirl on the range if you'd like. Cheers Craig and look after yourself.
I've got a benjamin marauder .177 with element helix scope. its fun in small game hunting but TOO HEAVY. the Rotex looks compact n bottle placement is impressive.
I have one now and very impressed with it. Super accurate with big shot count. Mins you only shot it twice because of covid. Now back to normal so may get to range again.
Great review Dan I'm still pondering this one, I bought the HW97K on your review wood stock in .177, and was about to buy the RM8 until you mentioned the trigger, as I shoot a lot of benchrest indoors the trigger might be a deal breaker for me, I could polish sears etc. But in the end that might not be enough, thank you I'll have to try one and then decide.
Regarding that Walther Rotex Trigger and pulling to a 'wall' that sometimes a 'soft wall',..it's odd but I found the same thing you describe in my Grand Power 9mm K100, Most times I can get a nice group with a 'dependable trigger' then every now and then, I pull the trigger ever so softly then, BANG,..with no apparent 'wall' of feeling at all. I had other chaps try my gun and they looked at me with a surprised look when they found the same result. So what could it be,..I have no clue. Seems like what you find here. I am looking to buy an 'upper class' air rifle, but would like either a break barrel or an under lever,...so this is why I enjoy your reviews, as they are so thorough. Thanks again for your time and expertise.
Hi Reg, it's an odd one isn't it mate? One of the things that I'd wager is causing the problem is rough trigger sears. With a polish I'm sure it'd smoothen out beautifully but I'd be very careful especially if you're dealing with a firearm. You're speaking my language when you mention springers, are there any you've had your eyes on? Cheers mate and thanks for watching.
@@bigdansairguns83 Oh I hear you on trying to be a Gunsmith when I know I am not. I do work on mechanical things a lot, but I know my ( safety ) limits and if this Grand Power does it a few more times I think I`ll drop it off to my local `real and certified`Gunsmith. I`m sure he will get it cleared away for me. The trouble with me and buying rifles and such, is that there are too many to choose from and not enough money! ( I`m sure I`m not alone in that ) . I am looking and wondering about the high end makes/models like the Air Arms and the Walther, but there is a Xisico model XS46U rifle that apparently is the same as the SMK XS38 ( your review of this ) that I hesitated at buying, that's got my attention. I did tell you I was going to buy it the next day,..but like a lot of things I hesitated too long and then other models kept catching my attention. I 'blame' that on certain 'RU-vid Reviewers' who keep showing us new and better things! hahahaha! Happy Easter Dan,....Stay Healthy !

Love this gun I just got it but the uc version good for hunting the regulator on the uc version is set to 140 bar in uk I get 10 mags full power until it falls off regulator in 22 at 232 bar I checked on line on the regulator versions and the 177 with the long barrel regulator set is 105 bar the 22 with the long barrel is set to 85 bar and the uc version is set to 135 to 140 bar so less shot count in the uc but it perfect for hunting 👍
Hey Jon! They're not bad rifles are they? I might do a second review on the Walther but film it around the farm where we're more sheltered from the wind. Perhaps a shootoff against an M16A?
Gonna wait till half seven tonight , the mrs comes back from work then, she loves Big Dan ... I'll watch the vid then with a few Tyskies ( polish lager ) (£27 a crate , a bargain )
Hahaha sounds like a plan Mark! I'm not a huge lager fan myself but dear god I could murder a bottle of Magners in this heat. Look after yourself Mark and Mrs Homer and I hope you enjoy the review.
@@jongriffin4650 Cheers Jon ... or should I say " bottoms up " ... Excellent lager for the money ( £26.99 by me ) for a crate of 24 ( 500ml ) ... got a fair few too shift this weekend I tell ya ...
Every time you do the cronos test, I feel myself pushing down into the armchair to get away from the drill I'm hearing.joking aside you are the dogs at this stuff
Hahaha Hi Michael! Thanks for the criticism and the comments mate I'll make sure to mute the sound for the chrono testing from now on. Don't hold back when it comes to video feedback mate it really helps me to tailor the channel to make it the best I can. Thanks Michael
@@bigdansairguns83 I hope you you haven't taken my comment wrong pal! When I refer to anything being the dogs bollocks its meant has being fantastic and I meant I am petrified of the dentist's drill. What pellet would you recommend trying in bsa ultra 177 thanks
@@michaelholt9378 No mate not wrong at all haha but it's genuinely good feedback. Ultra .177 I'd try JSB Exact 4.52 or H&N/Remington Field Target Trophy. They are my go to pellets for PCP's and they're usually spot on. Alternatively give the Chinese QYS pellets a try.. some say they group even better than the other two. Let me know how you get on mate.
Hey mate. They are regulated but they're not the easiest regs to work on. The other nuisance is that they're fiddly to adjust the power on as there's no easily adjustable hammer spring like with other rifles so power is usually adjusted through the reg. Cheers mate!
Hi Dan thanks for an honest and complete review (as always!) I was considering this gun as I’m unable to get hold of the N V Alpha that I wanted. However the inconsistent trigger creep............at least to me, is a big negative........the search goes on😳 Stay safe and keep healthy!!!! 👍
Hey mate. The trigger seems to be something that only affects certain guns according to the comments. That being said the Walther trigger is known as being mediocre. It may not have a Walther barrel but I highly recommend the Artemis M16 or if you're abroad the SPA M16, the M16's trigger is genuinely a lovely unit and the rifles shoot incredibly well. Thanks mate and all the best!
Hello Dan did you no if you buy a Walther and for some reason remove the stock like to oil if the rifle gets wet in the rain you void the warranty that's what John Rothery told me and got out of a warranty claim I'd be warry about John Rothery they will try anything to get out of a warranty claim
Hi Dan iv just got the rm8 ultra compact came with a silencer with the silencer fitted still sounds like a cannon iv changed the silencer to a weihrauch silancer still no change can u recommend a silencer that would silence the bark from the rm8 please
Me personally I like a bit of weight towards the front. It makes for a more stable shot IMO. My XS79 with a bottle attached is way too heavy upfront, very fatiguing to hold (feels like there is a 5kg weight on the front). I bullpuped mine and it is very stable to shoot now (feels like just over 0.5kg on the front).
Hi Qyuubi. A lot of people these days are converting their 79's to air, how does yours shoot? I'd imagine the power has increased nicely. I can imagine the bottle causing balance issues as they're slightly front heavy out of the box (in a good way though like you mentioned) so a bottle depending on size is only going to make things worse. Now you've got it sorted I bet it's an excellent vermin rifle. Cheers mate!
@@bigdansairguns83 The trigger extention is kind of Macgyver'd. It's no way match grade but it's functional. The trigger extention is floating per-say and is only in contact with the trigger and not with the rest of the action. I know you'd assumed that it's inaccurate, but I see it like a archer. that the less amount of contact with the bow the more accurate, the less the trigger extention has with the rest of the action, the less likely a bad trigger pull will effect the rifle to shift to the right/left. (I hope that made sense 😅) I ended up putting an externally adjustable regulator on mine and it has become one of my most favourite air rifles to shoot. Here's my gateway to airguns post I made: www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=171082.0 It's a nice little tack driver for sure. 😁
Hi Dan, great review bud and I agree with you on the gun out of the box. My UC is 8 months old and I can say that just putting pellets through it really eases both the bolt and the trigger, picked up a little custom pellet seater which also helps. One thing to watch out for is that my particular gun has gained fpe to the extent that a 50 shot string the other week clocked the gun at just over 12 fpe, RFD asked me to bring it in. This was my 1st PCP, i've since picked up a HW100KT, both guns do 5p groups out out to 30 yds with the HW being more accurate the further out I shoot. TBH both out shoot me, taking the power creep out of the frame, IMO, the RM8 UC is great value at the price I paid new for it.
Hey Mr Fish! The Rotex's are excellent rifles but like you've said they do have their quirks. Unfortunately the regulator can be one of them. The HW100's are brilliant PCP's and solid as a rock as well. If I can get my mitts on one I'd love to do a face off between the Rotex and the Artemis M16A. They're both pretty evenly matched and it's be interesting to see how the Chinese barrel compares to the Walther. Thanks mate!
Hi Dan, Very helpful! I think I saw somewhere that the Umarex 850 action casing was made of aluminium - zinc alloy by injection moulding. Could you check if this is also the case for the rm 8 ? I think I did see a moulding seam running through the centerline of the action.. BTW: I do hope you are well and will soon be back with your fine tubes, dear friend.
Hi Shane. Thanks for the message mate we're back in action now and are ready to get filming once again! Thanks Shane and I hope you and the family are managing to stay safe in these troubling times.
I've had my Rotex RM8 for about 18 months and it's had over 50k pellets through it. The bolt gets better with use. IMO it's not a good field gun, it's way too heavy and front heavy at that. A bipod or a front grip are a must. As a bench rifle it's great. Mine has a Hugget suppressor and Hawke 4-16 x 50 IR fitted along with a bipod. I use RWS Superdomes as I found the Superfields to be very hit and miss quality wise. The skirts are too thin IMO, too easily deformed just by been rattled about in the tin. The Superdomes have much thicker skirts, it's a shame they're not a few grains heavier. Accuracy is exceptional at the range I plink at. I have a 30 yard plinking set up, with the side edge of bottle caps my usual targets. At 30 yards, from a bench position and using the bipod, it can cut a WD40 straw in half and go straight through the hole normally occupied by the valve in a car wheel rim/ tyre assembly. I use for checking / setting the sights. I also use toy soldiers for targets but only head shots are scored!
Brilliant comment! The Rotex is an accurate rifle no doubt. That said the bolt/trigger sears are a weakness on the rifle but it's not a massively widespread problem nor is it too difficult to fix. I just wish they used more/better metals on the internals. It's a fantastic rifle otherwise and very accurate as you've stated. I like to go to poundland for my plinking targets.. like you said those toy soldiers and aliens don't stand a chance!!
@@bigdansairguns83 Thanks for the reply. I bought mine as it was the best for the price at the time (£425 in May 21) I haven't adjusted the trigger or anything else, it's as it left the factory. It's actually my second one, I've had no issues with this one, but the first one I bought blew it's seals inside 2 months and then did it again the day after it was returned from Walther after 6 weeks, as fixed. That was the short barrelled version that came with a suppressor. The shop was great, went to bat with the importers and got me a full refund, which I then spent on the same rifle, albeit the longer barrelled option. 50k shots later it's still going strong. There's some cheaper PCPs out there but I still think the Walther Rotex is the best value for money. I've seen people spend a lot of time and money tuning a rifle to be as accurate as the Rotex is out of the box. Biggest niggle for me is the weight and the front heaviness but that's most PCPs. It's about time the bottles were incorporated into the stock on PCPs as a matter of routine, there's only a few that currently do it. Shift that weight back to the shoulder so the rifle has balance.
The trigger is strange. I have the current model and all I can do is remove the first stage. Adjusting the trigger does not make it lighter it just goes boom quicker. It also feels like it does not break at the exact same spot every time. Still better then my Diana trigger. That one can be adjusted from "long first stage" to barely touching it and it goes off, without anything in between. I do like the accuracy of the RM8. Same hole once you find the ammo it likes. H&N Excite and Field Target Trophy 4,51mm so far.
I have an earlier rotex in .177, it's a wood stock with a soft touch rubbery coating. Thank god it has a manual safety. Trigger is quite nice, not as good as my bsa r10 though, but not bad at all. Not really that pellet fussy. Seems to do best with jsb exact diablos rather than jumbo. The jumbo seem to drop a bit lower on target.
@@mikeenglish7063 Hi Mike. Yeah we'd like to test the Rotex again around our farm range with a wider variety of pellets as the wind really hurt it here in comparison to our other rifles we've tested. I'd love to make a shoot out video between the Rotex and the Artemis M16A but it all depends on the availability on the latter. Cheers Mike!
Great in dept review, but it just does not have the quality feel as their LGU. For a PCP in this price range i would prefer the Artemis M16 with the nicer side lever and almost 1.5Kg less weight.
Hi Marco, we really need to get a look at the LGU on this channel as they're a cracking rifle. The M16 puts up a helluva fight against the RM8.. I think a shoot off video may be in order! Cheers mate.

Hi Dan cracking review as ways! Just wondering if you've had any experience of the Remington warhawk? Ive seen your review of the sabre, and it does sound a tidy piece of kit for the price. I just really fancy a underleaver as Ive already got a couple of break barrel's. Cheers
Hello, hope you're staying safe, any chance of a review on the Hatsan Striker 1000s? It's a budget springer rifle but I'd like your opinion on the rifle, awesome review, thanks
So Big Dan, the 'Walther Rotex Varmint .22' or the 'Kral Puncher NP-02 .22'? I bought the Remington Airacobra PCP .22 on your advice and I'm looking to buy another rifle after the 1st of July when deliveries get back to near 'normal'. I watched the whole of this video again (that's three times!) and it is a great video (as usual) for information on that rifle 'it has to be said' ;-) (second comment - first was two months ago) PS: Big Dan, do you know where I can buy a 'Sumatra 2500 (The Stinger) .22 Rifle' from?
Still comparing air rifles to buy my first pcp so I wish all reviewers would start their video with the price of the gun on review so a realistic comparison can be made by budget minded entry level beginners.
Hi James. They're a good rifle the XS36 and they'd be more than capable of blatting rats. The only thing I'd mention is that they aren't a full power rifle so make sure to keep yourself within 30'ish yards for a clean kill.
fair shout dan another great reveiw! im on a toss up between the remington sabre th, and the retay underlever the later based on looks , is there any need to mod the triger on the sabre ? or would you recamend another riffle altogether in this price range? ive got till the end of aug ( birthday) ,will keep garden plinking with tom and the webley vmx untill then, stay healthy brother thnx for keeping us all sane!!!! lol
@@kevingingell4493 Sorry kev , I realised that AFTER I wrote it , had too shoot off to have a wee upstairs .. but forgot too delete it when I came back down ... it happens too me all the while ... Ps .. stay in - stay safe .... too all of you guys and gals out there anawl
I've gave up asking for a review of the s200, and sold it ,how about the s400 witch i bought to replace it brilliant rifle for the price, got mine second hand for £350 and its the walnut stock, do your best dan 😁👍
Hi Phillip. Never give up, never surrender! I will definitely get both rifles done but when it's not a rifle I can have easy access to it makes it a smidge more difficult. It will be done though you have my word mate. The S400's are lovely rifles, the uncle has the S410 on his FAC and at 30ft-lbs it's a belter!
Excellent review, I am casting around for my first PCP rifle, would you recommend this or would something else be more suitable? My budget is up to £600 as I also need to buy a pump.
Have a look at krals m8 as well they are not bad rifles. I go for the gamo over this its just a cheaper BSA however if you can stretch with the money a bit BSA scorpion are really nice they are around the £600 mark
Hi Chris, Where about are you located mate as the General Licenses have been reinstated. Just be careful with the lockdown however as shooting for the pot is considered unnecessary if you have to leave your home to do so. I wouldn't be binning them just yet mate.
@@bigdansairguns83 O really. I live in the Cotswolds. Lucky to live on farm land and it backs onto some more farm land that I have always had premision to shoot on. Sadly with fox numbers so high, the bunnies is almost all gone.
You can fire away mate especially if it's on your land. If the rabbits are running low I'm sure a pigeon or two would stop the stomach rumbling as time goes on. Cheers mate.

@@bigdansairguns83 Hi Dan.Thanks for the reply. Can this air rifle be made to perform at 1000fps?I live in South Africa, and dont believe that this is an issue.
@@apb71 Hi Alexis! I would imagine it'd be possible but it may not be the best rifle to do it with. The Rotex's power is mainly controlled by the regulator (the hammer spring has little effect). For 1000fps I'd more look into Kral or Reximex.
Is it me or does this gun remind you of the Reign? It is a bit similar I think. I’m not a big fan of bolt actions and honestly don’t have a clue why these manufactures are making another repeating multi-shot gun in this action. Why don’t they just do a simple, easier and smoother to use, side cocking lever action like the Nova VistaAlpha/Liberty, FX Crown, FX Impact and so on. My Gauntlet is a bolt action and the cycling time is not as quick or as smooth as my Alpha/Liberty, or my Crown. Myself, like you, will give them credit at least for putting the manometer where it should be. I realize you are in the UK and subject to sub 12 FPE Laws, but it would be totally awesome if they supplied you with FAC guns as well for guys like me in the USA who are looking at these guns and are curious how they perform. I have only found 1 review on the net on the FAC Reign and it was no where near as informative and helpful. He tried but didn’t cover the gun the way it should have been covered. No chronograph, shot count, just lots of stuff you key on he didn’t. Truthfully...I don’t think I have a gun under 25 FPE unless I count my grandsons Daisy Red Rider and honestly I don’t even think of it as an air gun as much as I do a training tool/toy. I think you have some of the best and informative reviews out there and would greatly appreciate FAC stats also. I understand this is most likely a lot to ask from someone who’s heart really is more loyal towards a quality springer, and not with FAC springers that are harder to shoot and not as attractive but with the PCPs like the Nova Vista Alpha/Liberty...the low/high power adjuster knob on the side as you said is more based toward FAC guns and is in fact a big deal. There is a difference of 200+ FPS not to mention an almost double shot count when used in low power. I use this gun more than any other and way more than my FX Crown. It just as accurate and just as consistent. What an amazing gun in FAC. Externally adjustable regulator, trigger, and with a simple easy mod the hammer spring now. Gun will go from 20 FPE to 56 FPE in minutes...Fabulous rifle and 300 dollars! Just saying...it would be cool as hell if you could do FAC guns as well that’s all. Thanks for the review and the getaway from this lockdown crap. Take care, stay safe, and God bless you and your family in these crazy times. BTW...the Rotex has a corrosion issue because of the use of non-alloy brass components. The Nova Vista Freedom has a similar issue because of the built in pump and no way to control moisture. The end of the air cylinder that goes inside the block is the first part to go and requires yearly service depending on how heavily it is used. Thanks.
Thinking of coming back to air guns after a very long hiatus (my last gun being the weirauch hw90 gas ram). I am left handed and was wondering if there was was any pcp rifles that have the cocking bolt on the left hand side?. Cheers
Keep thinking about a pcp had a Logun pro mk 2 a few years ago but sold it on just kept my Hw springers looked at the Rotex but think when we can start buying stuff other than bog rolls going to try another maker .
The wind was blowing! The sun was in my eyes! Scarlett Johansson kept whispering sweet somethings into my ear! I think that covers all of my excuses haha.
@@bigdansairguns83 Well really around the price range of the B2, thank you for replying, I couldn't probably go slightly higher in price but I was wondering about airguns around the same price range as the B2, thanks again
@@jacobofcourse Hi Jacob, That's no problem at all. If you aren't sold on the B2 there's also the Milbro ACCQR8 although you may find that a bit small. For around £60 you may also find the SMK DB3 synthetic underlever rifle to be a good candidate. That being said the B2's also come in different models with the deluxe version coming with fibre optic sights. I believe that GAMO may also provide rifles within this price point as well which could be well worth checking out. Thanks Jacob and let me know how you get on.
Great vid again Dan. Thanks for the the hard work. I'm about to jump in and buy my first PCP, I'm on a budget and unsure. I liked the video on the alpha nova and also this RM8 not forget a choice of any of the Gamo offerings. Anybody out there could give me there thought's please 😄😄😄😄
Hey bassassin (brilliant username by the way) I thought that but I didn't want to say it in case it totally missed haha. It really needs retesting with calmer weather. Thanks for the comment, not only have you confirmed my suspicions but you've also restored my pride a bit haha.
Hi Michael, I'm sorry you feel that way mate, considering I did criticise the trigger and the amount of plastic on the rifle along with the regulator and its oddities I'm not sure what else I could've exposed about the rifle. Was there anything I missed at all? Thanks Michael and all the best.
