If we go by the most modern car shown in each series, initial D 5th stage ending would be in the 2010’s as we see a GT86 in the end credits. Wangan midnight takes place in the early 2000’s, I think the most modern car featured is the S2000 (not counting the arcade version’s lamborghinis)
@@mariusmglestue1234 The GT86 in Initial D doesn't count, since that was something along the lines of a dream / far future setting / stylized tribute to the GT86 out of the show's canon. I would say it takes place in the early 2000's. Wangan Midnight is based off real life events in 80s-90s Japan, but could be set in the late 90s or early 2000s. The newest car I can remember in the Wangan Midnight anime was the R34 GT-R, which was first produced January 1999. I don't remember the S2000, that might've just been a background car that was not given much thought.
At this rate, I will not be surprised if a sileighty or a Celica to appear. The possibility of a big mouthed driver that drives a boosted AE85 is also very big.

In this anime, what a character says "tuning" means "tuned", and when a character says" tuned" means "tuning" lol. Just I wonder why do people stack on the speed of 300-330kph (200mph) so much? what happens if a rich guy brings supercars appeared in TopGear like Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4 into this anime? I think a lot of cars are faster than those cars in this anime. Is it because it is an old story happened within the 90s like initial D does? XD The most curious part is the reason why are they using indicators/blinkers before they turn left/right? Can't get reason anywhere. o_o?
I think its around late 2000s( considering the fact that there is r34 gtr and they said that the fd was launched way back) so in that case thise cars are pretty new not to mention these guys are racing in public roads and the cars can do these speeds more than 15 minuts
You are comparing a more modern car to cars that are already a couple generations old XD. The technology and performance of cars released in the last 15-20 years is on a completely different playing field. Imagine a Model A with the power of a Bugatti, DEAD, so dead. Also, they use their blinkers because thats what they are there for. To tell everyone else what their intention is. Even in a split second that information could save a life. Knowledge is power. Btw they arent "turning" left/right, they are changing lanes. Please do not try and drift your car as I am afraid you will wrap your car around a tree.
