In this video I'll talk about the competitive web developer job market and how you can take a different route into getting in to the tech field. I'll discuss 4 other careers that pay just as well, if not more, than web developer jobs that you can pursue with the same skills that you have been learning.

I get your point, but I've gotta disagree. I know the video talks about how other fields are in higher demand than WebDev, but here's the thing: landing your first gig in WebDev is way easier. Yeah, the pay might be like working at McDonald's, but it's all about the experience. That first job sets you up to dive into more interesting stuff later on. Trying to jump into something like Data Science or Cybersecurity straight away, especially without higher education... It's a tough game, even with all those job listings floating around.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm currently with TOP right now. I know there are other platforms out there, but TOP's comprehnsive approach, and online community to which you can access and ask coding questions to, is really great. With teaching myself to code over the last 2-3 years and starting over several times, (while learning a language or 2) i'm not stressed about time. Don't get me wrong, if i found out i could get a coding a job today, i'd be all over it, but I want this to be my profession and i want to be good at it. Web dev for me is just a foot in the door, as i have other software development aspirations, but TOP im finding is a really solid way to go about learning to code if, for now and for the future, especially if youre on the self taught rout-that online community & structured online curriculum is really great. I can't recommend it enough so far. It really challenges you! Thanks again for sharing these other options though! Always nice to see what's going on in the world of tech!

Seconding this! I am currently at TOP's CS course (JavaScript path). Gosh, it is really challenging 😅 But I think it's pretty beneficial to learn DSA! I have been doing TOP for 1.5 years more or less consistently. I cannot recommend it enough as well. Once my excitement of something uniquely new to me settled down, I realized I might not become a great web developer or even one. Though I think it IS possible to find a niche in IT I would enjoy and be in demand enough. I don't want to set any expectations for my future. I am finishing TOP because it's a lifetime experience. And then, we will see. Who knows, I might become a web developer, or I will pursue something related to Linux (which I switched to after Odin's recommendations)

Data Science: Data scientists use Python and SQL to analyze data and make recommendations to companies. 2. ServiceNow Developer: ServiceNow developers design, code, and troubleshoot applications within the ServiceNow platform. 3. Cybersecurity Analyst: Cybersecurity analysts protect companies' data and systems from cyberattacks. 4. Cloud Engineer: Cloud engineers design, manage, and secure cloud infrastructure. Brian I'd appreciate an answer to this question: Do you think that data science roles might decline in the coming years due to the advent of companies like Palantir? It seems like Palantir is not only doing data science better, but leveraging AI models to do the heavy lifting that a lot of data scientists would otherwise have to do. I'm not an AI-downer person who thinks AI is going to replace everything, but PLTR does seem like it's carving out some programming work and will likely continue to snowball.

The dev shortage is a complete lie. Has been since early 2000s. This was around the time companies got the OK to outsource like crazy. Painted people in the US as "useless workers." (Something you'll see occasionally in various comments.) In fact, here's a quote from Greenspan, ex Fed: "Our skilled wages are higher than anywhere in the world," he said. "If we open up a significant window for skilled workers, that would suppress the skilled-wage level and end the concentration of income." (Rather than raise everyone, bring everyone down.) Companies never forgot that cheap labor. If they can't outsource - for now - they'll have devs tearing each other apart in a race to the bottom.

In all of these types of help and guidance videos I'm surprised nobody has suggested going into PLC/Machine programming. Although not all CS knowledge is transferrable to automation, it takes a lot of logical thinking, a good understanding of CS to structure a full application, and it pays disgustingly well when you get somewhat decent at it. There's a major shortage of controls engineers and programmers and its not even on anybody's radar. i agree with you, only indians and the type of kevin powell out here teaching those interested to code how to. But Brian will come here and tell you how web dev is dead and you should think of choosing something else to do. Meanwhile he has never shown us how to create an html boiler lol I am so done with youtubers and there opinions aboutt tech more so web dev. GateKeeping and I hate it!! I have not seen the type of web simplified the people trying to make a difference and teach trying to discourage people from pursuing web dev
