Tim, unfortunately I would say u have hooked it up wrong. It only goes between the nose gear and the receiver/blue box, not between the receiver and blue box. I would say thousands of people have used this and have not had issues. I guess there could be a one off but who knows. It has nothing to do with the rudder.

@@timothygiggey399 couldn’t tell you. I am not sponsored by RC Castle so it appears your mad at me for making a vid on these. I as I stated before have them in my Mig 29, 80 FMS Bae Hawk, F14 and no issues. Nor has anyone else that commented here. The world is not immune nor am I to hooking things up wrong or incorrectly. I have fried many things in my day. My fault. If your sure you didn’t do anything wrong contact RC castle and see what they can do for you. Not sure why hoping this into your nose gear wire would feed back and fry everything. Doesn’t sound feasible to me. Again you can be mad at me, I am just the messenger giving you my honest thoughts

EDF #1 with the Assan Steering Gyro is in. And by golly I think it works too. That was an extra bonus! I put it in the Freewing Me-262 next to the receiver facing forward as is the AR637T. All I did to test it was rotate the front end of the plane holding the jet and the front wheel constantly tried to make corrections. Again, I think it’s in correctly. Next is the Flightline P-38 and the 80mm a-10. (Just putting the steering gyro in the big, “Id rather not crash this”, expensive planes) Hope you and yours had a great Christmas. Looks like it works great for tricycle gear planes. Sure hope they figure out how to get something out there for Warbird guys. Something like this would be fantastic for taildragger folks that are constantly battling ground loops.

Any flight stabilizer will help. For a $25-30 solution, I recommend the Lemon RX 7-channel versions. I have them in all of my taildraggers and they make a world of difference for ground tracking (and in the air). My larger gas taildragger and tricycle gear planes have Aura 8’s in them with the sane ground (and air) benefits.

I was given a Freewing 70mm F-35 because the previous owner got so frustrated trying to take off without the plane zigzagging and tipping. I had researched to see what the issues were. 1. I made sure the main gear was "toe-in" 2. i reduced rate and expo so there was very little movement 3. I tried to tighten and take "slop" out as much as i could. I was successful for the first several flights, in would roll out relatively straight on take off, but then the issue started coming back. The front nose gear on this plane seems to wobble pretty good when you grab it by the nose, it just sways back and forth, so I'm assuming this is what is causing the squirrely take offs. There is a brace support that some people have installed to keep the nose gear from wobblying. I went ahead and ordered that and am waiting to install. But then I came across your video and was intrigued, It makes a lot of sense so I went ahead and ordered the gyro from RC castle as you suggested. (its coming from China so who knows went it will get here), but i'm just wondering how it will help it keep the nose gear straight if the erratic tracking is caused by a wobbly nose gear. I'm hoping the "brace support or/and the gyro will solve the issues, the only other fix, would be to buy a new nose gear, but i'm hoping not to have to do that once i install the first 2 fixes. thanks for you video. and if you address my issue regarding the gyro working with a wobbly nose gear.

With the gyro keeping the plane straight for take off does he gyro correct the direction when in flight. If for example the plane is banking left does the unit correct this by giving opposite rudder . Would this result in a degree of yawing ? Would you need to turn it off to prevent this occuring. I was on RC-Castle’s website and trying to figure out how many of these to buy. The next thought was which planes/jets are a pain to track straight on takeoff. This is where the trouble started- I started to think which is never good. I fly an Eflite Twin Otter on floats 10-20 times a month. Unlike the Timber 1.5 and Turbo Timber on floats the Twin Otter only has 1 water rudder. I spend as much time adjusting the water rudder on the Twin Otter as I do flying. My question is, do you think this device will help on the medieval pushrod from the nose gear to the plastic rudder on the back of the float? If so, I’ll get one of these just for the Otter.
@JustPlaneCrazy
@JustPlaneCrazy 3 года назад
It’s worked flawlessly on everything I have put one in. I was floored at how good they are. They only work on front nose gear planes. No tail wheel setups. If your water rudder is linked to the nose wheel give it a shot

@@JustPlaneCrazy The nose gear controls the rudder on the back of the float with a 24ish inch pushrod. What the heck, I’ll buy an extra one and give it a try. I have a Cessna trainer with a fixed landing gears. No retracts. The front gear steering is controlled by the rudder servo. Will this gyro still work with such configuration?
@JustPlaneCrazy
@JustPlaneCrazy 3 года назад
Yup
@enzok6414
@enzok6414 3 года назад
I won't do that on your Cessna. Because it is designed to only work for nose gear steering that has an individual steering servo. First of all. It will work, you may need to plug a gear channel into it, so it knows when your "gear" is down(the gyro will start to work 10s after you lower the gear). HOWEVER, if your nose steering is controlled by the same servo as your tail rudder. By connecting that servo to this gyro. When the gyro is active you will have RUDDER SURFACE MOVEMENTS. I would not recommend doing that. The tail rudder will function with a heading hold from the gyro. And rudder heading hold is rarely used in any flight gyro at all. Because it does not provide a liner performance(unlike Aileron and elevator. Rudder inputs will result in two factors of aircraft movements, bank, and yaw). And might result in a crash. With that being said. If you really want to have it in your Cessna, you could add a separate steering servo for the nose gear, and plug the gyro into the steering servo's side of the Y lead from your receiver.
@enzok6414
@enzok6414 3 года назад
@@JustPlaneCrazy I don't think it's a good idea to hook up the tail rudder with this gyro.
@JustPlaneCrazy

I don’t see really any difference honestly. Using the rudder or the nose to steer on the ground is the exact same thing.
@enzok6414
@enzok6414 3 года назад

@@JustPlaneCrazy I didn't say it takes the fun out of flying, on the contrary it clearly makes it more fun & easy. Its just that, as a pilot, it takes the achievement out of taking off and flying using our skills alone. Its mans mastery of his machine that makes it all worthwhile:) It is certainly a benefit to some, but most can take off straight & everyone should strive for that, that's what piloting is. As a flight instructors & pilots, we don't necessarily like to do things because they are easy, but rather we do them because they are hard! :)

Have to agree with @rcinformer....i HATE how all this tech has crept into the hobby from Drones....so many pilots out there with AS3X and Gyro's with ZERO basic flying or handling skills. The way its going if you love this tech, just as well put a flight controller in and let it auto takeoff and auto land, then you dont have to even do that🤷‍♂️. The fun of flying is the challenge of it IMO....and all this tech removes the challenge and makes a 140mph EDF fly like a 10mph supercub-why do these "basic flying skills" matter you ask, well short answer is "when things go wrong unexpectedly YOU know how to save your plane. Look at SAFE as a good example, lots of guys have stalled and crashed, or crashed on landing due to SAFE not taking the throttle position into account. No substitute for experience guys-hate me all you like but you know its true!

I still remember when mixing, expo, was a thing of sci-fi, proper flight Sims, telemetry FPV, etc. It's inevitable (you push your own limits and others self and others push the limits of technology) In my part of the world ( Panama) technology has helped to raise interest in the hobby on young kids, and not sacred them away by having the tools to avoid an early crash in their intro to the hobby.

Do jets have PFactor.? Is everyone perfect? Some people can use a little help.
@Johnn_T
@Johnn_T 3 года назад
Just Plane Crazy Perfection comes from practice, and the more these models get automated the less people are able to gain basic flying skills. Several months ago I had an elevator servo fail just after takeoff I was about 80 feet in the air, if I had any form of stabilisation in the plane I would have totalled it,But because I have basic handling skills because I refuse to use stabilisation I was able to land the aircraft almost perfectly using nothing but the rudder and the throttle. These are the basic skills this technology is stealing from people-The ability to handle unexpected failures like that. I've had aircraft with flight controllers in , you don't even have to launch it because it has auto launch and autoland all I needed to do was connected to a laptop and plot the course before it took off.... what a boring hobby that is! I agree that this technology is good for getting people into the hobby but at the same time people should be encouraged to use it less as time progresses-Lots of guys out there have had crashes and blamed AS3X or similar, when in actual fact a lot of the problem is they have no basic skills because they depend on that very technology far too much. Even this device is redundant when you think about it-You can put the nose wheel on a separate channel to the rudder And trim it so that the plane tracks straight-Then slave the steering channel off the rudder channel. People are getting very lazy because of technology I'm sad to say
