The German soldier spared Normam. That scene was moving because they both were so young and is like they understood each other and they didn't want any part of the cruelty of the War.
@@martinstuemmler1494 Exactly what Cooper said. The SS were the Nazis and we're also elite trained soldiers at the same time. No way an SS soldier which are the most dedicated to the cause would do something like that
@@ironduke5058 by the time allies were making it into Germany, SS divisions were recruiting and trying to fill ranks with anyone they could find. Start of the war they were elite, but after losses for years there were as many child soldiers as anything

2 brigade 3 ID's moto is send me and we were known as the send me brigade. we had a war chant during deployments where we were known as the spartans. Lead would pose "who are we?" We would respond "Spartans!" lead would respond "when the nation calls, who shall they send?" we respond "SEND ME!" shit gets my heart rate up just thinking about it.
The people who survived the first war were called the “lost generation”. Mentally, physically, emotionally, and even in sheer numbers, we really did lose an entire generation of young men. The bread of butter of society, thrown away for nothing. The actions of that setting weren’t romanticized, soldiers weren’t made into legends or heroes, and the war wasn’t turned into something we look back at and laugh about. It was a scar on human history that, to this day, hasn’t healed. World War Two had a body count four times as high, and produced easily ten, or even 20 times, the amount of human suffering and loss. Entire countries were destroyed. The falling of the iron curtain, Stalin’s three days, the purged of suspected war criminals in Mid to East Europe, the Japanese destruction of China, all of it. The second war was worse, by every imaginable and measurable standard. Millions died, helpless and alone, under the jack boot of one ideology or another. Soldiers, entire divisions(12,000 men) were fed into battles labeled “meat grinders” after the war. Fucking meat grinders. The war was so bad that many countries even today still feel the physical effects of it’s brutality on their economy and population. People in France, Germany, and Russia still die, every day, from stepping on ordnance that’s been buried for 70 years. What did we do with this war? We made it into games. We made it into movies, books, action figures, folk tales and stories of heroism and brotherhood to tell to children when the nights got a little too dark. We labeled the few that came home as “the greatest generation”, despite the fact that we had just sacrificed ANOTHER generation of young men for seemingly no reason at all. No, I don’t think humanity is ready for world peace yet. I think that we will be, some day, but before that, a whole lot of people will have to die, and a whole lot of people are gonna have to suffer under the control of tyrants, dictators, Kings, “great leader”s, and the like. If we don’t destroy ourselves first, that is.
You speak my heart brother, I genuinely hope we don't get to see a war like that ever again, because next time it'll be a 1000 times more catastrophic than ww1 & 2 combined.
Out of the ashes from the First World War came Churchill, MacArthur, Patton, even Hitler. Far from forgotten and actually the reason the world is the way it is today. I do see your point though and in most cases you are correct
I agree and disagree. WWI made no sense because that was just it, there was very little reason for an entire world to be thrust into conflict over a series of alliances and pacts. But WWII was completely different. You reference Japan's slaughter of China, and I'll throw in the entire Nazi regime and its attempted annihilation of entire races, religions, and creeds. Japan needed to be stopped. Germany needed to be stopped. The cost of war is never worth the price paid, but in WWII more than any other conflict in recent history, the stakes were real. The entire world was truly in jeopardy. I do truly believe that without the sacrifice of millions and millions of young men, the slaughter of the tens and hundreds of millions would have continued until the very face of this earth looked different. Remember the Nazis were attempting to build an atom bomb as well. Had the Allies not won the war, or even begun to fight, the world as we know it would not be as it is. Cheers.
It fits well with the who shall I send scene. Here am I. I'm ready. Lers storm the gates of hell and drag satan off his throne. ... We have a job to do. The other day I was trying to remember my personal motivation verse to tell someone. I know the words just not chapter and verse. But after that I remember better. Its John 15:13. The gist that there's no greater love than to lay down ur life for ur friends. Jesus says this as he tells them he considers them friends not servants. Then he goes and dies for them(us). Well the inverse is John 13:15 where Jesus says (gist of course, because do not add or take away from The Word of God) do as I have done for u. Jesus in so many words did storm the gates of hell, he did snatch satan by the balls and did drag him of his throne. Jesus: do as I have done for u, there is no greater love than to die for ur friends. If u dont own a sword sell ur cloak and buy one. But love one another as I have loved u. For as u judge u shall be judged. But it's better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war. And pro tip here, the best way to win a fight is to have no fight at all.
Bernthals character is damaged and clearly a warrior with ptsd. My favorite scene from this movie is when the building is blown up and he grabs Norman and says “you feel it? It’s called WAR!” That was his form of affection and teaching moment trying to show Norman what war is like, hell.
Affection? Trauma bonding maybe but it just serves to demonstrate that cliches such as whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger are lies there is permanent damage done that is very debilitating people are often never the same and they are certainly not stronger than before.
When I was in the army I was armored reconnaissance this brings me back the men you live with in your track all become very close I was a Gunner in a Bradley fighting vehicle 2012-2015 6-9 cavalry
"Does that hurt you? Do you think on it? Cause I fucking dream on" that is such a powerful line! Not only does it show the physical but the severe mental trauma
@@TheitaniofRome Well the final battle actually happened so..., I do agree that the only "bad" part of this movie is the tank battle scene with the Tiger I, that was the only part that didn't seem "real."

I've seen a city on fire. I've seen it rain black rain. I've seen death, watched men die, made men die. That feeling of dread, that something horrible is about to happen never goes away. The vividness, never goes away. The smell, never goes away. It is always as close as yesterday.

3 Years, 3 Years... People still haven't figured out how to defeat the system! Because they follow the system. If you fight for something, it doesn't mean that it's about war, you just need to look at racism or women's rights! Even Jesus advocated this and it is still frowned upon today by Satanists! (Muslims etc.) Today it gets even worse, people are fighting for something they don't know anything about. Here you only need to look at UK war. Media carries out mass manipulation, which they have done with Corona and continue to do so and still no one has noticed that a game is being played with the citizens here, just like 1000 years ago.

Incredible movie and an incredible cast. You could feel the bond they created and the pain they felt. Anyone who has served can tell you the same thing, it’s about the man next to you who has suffered day in and day out right next to your side. Touching movie!
Why did they delete most of these scenes from the final cut? The movie would have been 10 times better with the deleted scenes would have added much more humanity to it
