the IS-3 was created as a perfect counter to the tiger 2 and panther F, and the L7 gun was specifically created to destroy the IS3, so no wonder its difficult to balance with so much compression
The problem is Gaijin has a wrong idea about balancing from the start. IS-3 and many other tanks at this point have the same BRs as tanks that entered service decades after IS-3 and alike were retired, so Gaijin puts them against HEAT fin stabilised which annuls their armour at any range or angle, and thus leaves with all cons of heavy tanks, but without any pros. The whole problem would have never existed if Gaijin went for balancing through number spawnpoints and tanks in each team and BR only reflecting years of service in their primary nations. This idea was tested several times during events. The gameplay was more intellectually challenging for one side but still any could win.
Legion716 Any teach tree tier 5 when they face uptier I straight up not having a good time Extremely stupid how heat just say armor? Fuck that and pen everything
@@chicuongvu1806 that's literally what happened in this era in the real world when HEAT-FS was prolific and composite armor hadn't become the norm. Which is why tanks like the Leopard did away with armor and focussed on being fast.
@@Demospammer9987 Fuck you mean good? It means they have to get new shells or something else, that will fuck over things under them, just because of this one thing
T-54 (1949) is the worst on the lineup, you can really tell the difference in armour between the 1947 version, just get the 1951 because of the new shells and enjoy the 1947 hull armour, basically no ap or apds can pen you when you angle.
@@samirzoilan4937 I have no clue why he gave it a ''Get it'' rating, it's got poor mobility, atrocious turret traverse, doesn't get the versatility in ammunition of the '51 version and virtually everything within it's frequent up-tiers can ignore it's armour. Giving it ''Good survivability'' is really damn questionable too.
@@moblinmajorgeneral I think he will do it like the German Review and do All the 6/7 tanks in one go and As Some one who is In the higher US Tiers I Hope he gives the US rank 5/6 tanks some good love as far as whats good and what isn't cause there are a few i feel he might say arent good
as a KT driver an IS3 is one of the easiest tanks to knock out. Either at 10 or 500m, you just gotta aim slightly below the barrel. Always a shot trap and always OHK. Or aim the lower hull sides which are 20mm or the turret top. Same goes for the IS4M. My most feared tank in the entire Russian tree is the BMP1. Especially when im playing the Maus.
Same with is 4, although is 4 u can angle the hull more to lessen the area of shot trap, but a knowledgeable player will still shot trap is4 regardless
Man, your videos are detailed, long but they're very much worth it. Much info to learn, and just to realize what one prefers. Pinpoints most weaknesses/pros of a tank, and I very much love this.
Panthers can't pen hull down T30, T34 and T29. Medium tanks shouldn't frontally pen heavy tanks. The tanks people get to have meaningful armor shouldn't be penned by medium tanks from lower brs.
@@asiftalpur3758 then lower basically all russian heavies since they shouldn't get penned by mediums. IS-2, 3s and 4s are relatively easy to pen either in the cheeks or later in the drivers hatch. Russian heavies get armor just as it becomes useless. German TDs get more armor than russian heavy tanks but noone cares.
@@mrsmartypants4541 I agree, Russian heavy tanks are really lackluster. Though oxy does shed light on it, I disagree. Is3 at 7.3 is criminal. It should 7.0. Is2 1944 could be 6.0 and nothing would change, it's still one shot city if you know where to aim. Russian heavies need serious rework and I say that as someone who doesn't have any Russian tank above 4.3 and while I face them all the time in my Italian, German, US and British tanks. They don't seem like an obstacle at all. Is7 and ufo tank on the other hand are very good at their respective brs.
Finally someone acknowledging the SU-122-54. It's amazing, and I honestly really like its sleek look (obviously there is nothing more important about your tank than how it looks) Also, I like taking the free ammo belts with the ZSU-57-2 in order to shoot behind me, that way you save a bit of money.
Here's a sort of weird tip, but playing the T-54/IS series lineup is waaay more enjoyable in arcade, since it basically leaves you with a pretty fast/maneuverable and well armored tank
What I like to do with the BMP is keep the original version, and use the keyboard ATGM to control it well below the tank's depression. Because it has an upwards firing angle, you can actually launch it from cover and switch to binoculars to keep guiding it if you're fast enough.
The BMP-1 is one of the most OP and useful vehicles in this, and some future lineups. I probably have more time played on it than any other vehicle in game.
@@talltale9760 true, but when a lunchbox parks in a good spot and takes out half the advancing force, it becomes irrelevant if it dies or not, you got your worth :P
That's why I'm suffering so much with the IS3 and IS4, the Heat rounds make it almost impossible to play, cause it will hit you anyway and the super annoying thing is, when they hit your loader or any other important crew member the Tank becomes a huge suffering, especially the much faster Leopard 1 with their 105 :/ they hit you at almost any angles.
I could unlock rank 5 Russia now, but I only have 800k, and I'm struggling to decide whether to save up for the BMP 2M (to go with my obj 279 that only sees 9.7) or to unlock rank 5 Russia or Germany. Thanks so much oxy for making these incredible videos, I wish you all the best.
A large part of what makes the 279 good is its trolly armor, intentionally uptiering it is going to really hurt it especially after it was moved up to 8.7 . If the only other similar BR vehicle you have is the BMP2M then you're going to find yourself having a heavy tank that doesnt eat shells and a glass cannon that brawls poorly. That kind of a lineup will send you to the hangar quickly and hurt your team as a result. Russia has a great 8.3 & 8.7 lineup use your 279 there. If your'e hurting for SL use any SL boosters you get at lowish tier (3.7USA works great for me) , dont buy expert crews for your vehicles as they're nice to have but extremely overrated and wait for sales when buying vehicles with SL. Gaijin has multiple yearly sales for vehicles.
@@miltaryaddict1 my point is that the last 10 battles I have had in the 279 were at 9.7, and that's with nothing higher than 8.7 in the lineup. But I get your point, thanks for the help.
Tiger 2 has 5 crew. Three were already dead, in war thunder a tank can’t operate with less than 2 crew. So since the 2nd to last crew member died, The crew was knocked out
Hey Oxy, been some time since I last saw your content. I hope you are doing well with the Covid impact and things are financially and mentally well for you. Thanks for continuing to make content, it means a lot during this time.
When i got the IS-4M i wasn't disapointed. 3 muas rounds into the mandlet 2 direct shots into the drivers hatch and on non-penetrating shot into the turet ring. All that got damged was the machinegun in the mandlet. A rocker from behind killed me. All russian tanks sufer against aps sds and chemical rounds. I still love them.
7.3 line up with is6 is where it's at . Low enough to stay out of a a1a1 l44 matches , with excellent sl and xp buffs . Bmp 1 is a beast with careful play.
MBT's were a thing. The Centurion A41 was made in 1945 and that was considered an MBT. Athough soviet doctrine kept heavy and medium tanks for a bit longer than the brits did.
In my opinion the IS 4 is the last somewhat reliable heavy tank. I find a lot of people use apds over heat in todays climate. Apds feels more reliable over heatfs. So the fact apds is more common and the is 4 is practically immune to it is quite nice
Since the first year and I did learn a few things from this videos (that the PT76 is actually good). I did leave the game for a year, but that was when 1 Gb of update would take an entire day.
11:00 Heres a way: Reduce uptiers and down tiers. warthunders queue times are generally shorter than competing games, and i would take a 50% longer queue if my IS-3 wasnt going to fight HEATFS and Stabilizers, without having to fight panthers and tigers and ruin peoples day as a result.
@@jasper8291 Further, im collecting info on mid and low tier queues, and all have been lower than 30 seconds for Arcade, but i haven't got to realistic yet.
The russian tech tree is the one that I have more vehicles, also I have played with most of them and I agree with everything you said, this is valid for your analisys on the german ground forces too. Amazing video Oxy +1 sub.
Slowly making my way up to the higher tears in War Thunder I have all the higher tears in world of Tank‘s blitz it’s a nice change of pace playing war Thunder.
iS 3 is defiantly NOT worth it. That rate of fire is just horrendous and facing off light mobile enemies 1 missed shot is all it takes to be sent back to the garage.
Yeah, him putting ''Good mobility'' on the T-54's is questionable as well, these things are MASSIVELY slow compared to other nations' 7.7 mediums such as the OF-40, Leopard 1, AMX-30 and STB-1.
21:38 “essentially your whole tank is a weak spot” Yes…this seems the case with anything I play..I do really good with the bmp1..better than anything else at this BR despite there being more armour on other tanks
