Becouse the alliance is all about the light i dont belive that but think of the geographic locations. The tree is located in close proximity to Kalimdor the whole continent apart from a small bit in the North-West is basicly horde controlled and very far away from Eastern Kingdom and any reinforcments is gonna need time to get there. Undercity is in a simular position, it is expected to fall and it does! but not before Sylvanes try to trap the Alliance leaders and it would have worked if not for the apperance of Jaina and her ship.

Even if Jaina does something big ,and i hope she does, it will be in the name of the Alliance, which equals to good. To teach those horde mosters a lesson once and for all.

The only character who has a military mind, and has a strategy that goes beyond "hurr durr let's hold hands together", and everyone calls her evil. Sylvanas will always be the best leader.

Search Otto von Bismarck, and "Weltpolitik". A strategy that involves keeping both allies and enemies in check, and making sure none of them become too dangerous. With this "Azerite fever" going on on both factions, Sylvanas had to severly halt the capability of the Alliance of gaining a lead. Her plan was to weaken the Alliance just enough for it to be able to march to war. Her plan didn't actually involve burning Teldrassil, but since not everything went smoothly, at this point it was the only sensible choice. Just read the dialogues we have right now. She clearly says "I did not forsee this outcome", which means that burning Teldrassil wasn't the main point of her plan. She did want to kill Malfurion, but not for "hurr durr evil queen", it's because Malfurion is one of the strongest beings in WoW right now, it's literally too strong for his own good, and he's on the side of the Alliance. What does the Horde have that can match such a powerful druid? The best thing she could do was to actually kill him, then the Alliance would've had to actually think twice before going to war, else risking way too many losses that what is actually worth. What Sylvanas did, she did it for the future of the Horde. It's not a good act, morally speaking, that's for sure; but it's too narrow minded to label it as evil. A war is brewing whether you want to see it or not, and she can't allow the Alliance to have the upper hand at any moment. THE ALLIANCE IS A THREAT, there's not way around it, and it has to be kept in check. I never talked about honor, nor war, especially in the real world, has ever been fough for or with honor.

Ravenclaw The Hunter Arthas did change her -.- . . . Look who she was before she became the banshee queen. When she got her body back she try to live piece with other elf’s but cast out cause she’s undead. So pretty much it’s Arthas and alliance are the reason why she’s the way she is.

She’s not totally evil, no. She is “questionable” at best. Lady Sylvanas is a survivor. And a ruthless one at that - unlike the Orcs, she has little time for “honour”, but not totally devoid of a moral compass, and can sometimes grapple with the ethics of it all. But I think she’d much rather survive, and see her people “alive”, than being seen as honourable.

Artcore She's lost hope too damn many times. Every time she's found a SHRED of hope, it gets yanked away at the last minute. And it's happened to her so many times that it's driven her bat-shit crazy.

Vol'jin also said "they won't understand". The undead is the true enemy of the old gods, they have severe problems at manipulating the dead. Some are even outright immune. Sylvanas most likely saw things when she died. She knows more than we do about what to come, this might be a play in that direction. That being said. While Blizz writers is generally shit, I highly doubt they're so shit that they would just make Garrosh 2.0. There is a much deeper meaning.

And as a Horde player the only reason I'm still following her (besides the fact we can't choose to be neither Alliance nor Horde) it is because I trust Warchief Vol'Jin and his wisdom. He never liked her, and instead of choosing Baine Lorthemar of whatever he accepted to listen the Loas and put her as a Leader. Moreover if I remember well, Dead People cannot hear the whispers from the old God. With Nzoth surely coming... Forsaken are the only one to be trusted... ^^'

There cant be hope if all are dead. There wont be any faction war if the alliance is cut down to the last man. Dont like it? Then join the Alliance like the other Traitors and Cowards. The horde only needs the Loyal and ruthless. Not Weak minded fools that betray their own faction when shit is going down. I Welcome her actions...for now negotiations are out of the Window. Only war and anihilation are left. After Legion both factions are still recovering.. Who ever looses will never reciver enough to pose a threat to the winning faction. If you are fine with the hordes disappearance then by all means go with the boy king. Either way This war is more than welcomed. FOR THE HORDE! LET THE SLAUGHTER BEGIN!

It's not, but alliance don't want to hear about it being a valid strategy at war, they just want to hate because "she's evil". The same attack, like this, in the heart of the enemy and even on civilians, is what saved a lot of people during the Holocaust.. But hey, "that's evil to do something like that"..

There is a few issues here: 1) This was not her intend up until the last minute, even in the short we hear her ordering an Invasion with the goal of occupying, so this was not part of her strategy. 2) She already know what kind of affect an atrocity will have on the Alliance ... she saw the results of Theramore .... the Alliance will stop hesitating and go full on war mode with 100% commitment, it will not make them hesitate but fight that much harder. 3) She should know and this is where I have the main issue with the short, that this will turn a significant part of the Horde against her, or at least it should have, if Blizz was consistent with their characters. Those like Saurfang and Baine should be right in her face about it from the moment she did it. Hell Saurfang in his mind dirtied his honor for her, only for her to pull something like this ... He should at the very least be challenging right afterwards, if not just swinging his axe at her as he had warned her before that if she starts acting like Garosh he would end her.... And Baine for some unexplained reason seems to be fine with what she done here (SPOILER from Beta: and in the battle for Lorderon) which does not make a lick of sense.

No its not ... it can be practical, it may be necessary ... but burning a city full of civilians is not morally gray ... And again with my point 2 and 3 I still argue its neither practical, necessary or the best choice to make. Hell Theramore is morally gray compared to this. I have no issue with her acting like this .... I just feel the justification is extremely poor for her doing this, which hurts her character because it makes her look like she did not consider what effect this will (should) have on both her side and the enemy .... Which in both cases will be the opposite of what she wanted when she started it.

The book sorta gives that reasoning too,when Saurfang gets right in her face about starting this war. Altho Saurfang says there might be peace for a year,Sylvanas just rebukes that after that 1 year everything will go back to normal,cuz humans can t get over the 1st orc invasion and blame the current orcs,Trolls got chased off their lands by alliance,forsaken once fought for the Alliance yet are now being hunted down,Greymane will probably push boyking into war,yadda yadda. She is pretty paranoid.

God this is exactly the hilarious comment horde ppl try to use as a reason for what their faction is doing. THERE IS NO WAR Legion ended in the faction having peace and then both found out about the Azerite. THATS IT. NO WAR. Until your great Sylvanas invades Darkshore and attacks the Night Elves (with which she has PEACE) and attacks their tree. You can keep playing Horde if you are such a person but PLEASE dont try to somehow find any reasonable excuse for what horrible actions and warcrimes were commited by the horde after Legion until now. Maybe Saurfang, Baine and Thrall will make the Horde playable again. If you play this game with lore knowledge, are involved and have even the slightest bit of conscience you cant play Horde.
