Warehouse Guitar Speakers (WGS) Invader 50 vs 21 Celestion speakers

I think there's a couple of things that really stand out in this video: 1. The Invader sounds very similar to the Alnico Blue - more similar to the Blue than any other speaker in the video! And I think that holds up in Zilla's other comparison videos, too. Obviously it's not identical but it has a very similar tonality, with a sweet top end and some clang and punch like the Blue. I'd say it sounds closer to the Blue than the Alnico Gold or Cream do. It's interesting that the Invader is marketed as a Greenback variant rather than a high powered ceramic alternative to the Alnico Blue. Maybe there's more of a market for Greenbacks, or it's just an easier sell! 2. It seems a bit misleading to describe any speaker as sounding "like a Greenback", because all 4 Greenback models in this video sound quite different! Not to mention that they'll all sound different to the original vintage Greenbacks from the 60s & 70s, too! 3. That being said, I think there's a fair amount of overlap between the Invader and the 20w Greenback, too (although it's a little hard to compare as the riff tails off on the 20w Greenback). It's probably fair to say the Invader sounds like a cross between the Blue and 20w Greenback! But not particularly like the 25w or 30w. It certainly has classic a Celestion sound though. 4. In this video and Zilla's others, the similarities between the Neo Creamback and the Invader and the Blue are quite interesting - although I'd say it's less similar to either the Invader or the Blue as the Invader and Blue are to each other. With the 20w Greenback, I'd say these are the 4 closest speakers to the Invader in this video. Great video as always! I just installed the Invader 50 in my Blackstar Ht Club 40 combo and I love it so far! What a difference vs. the Celestion 70/80 it came with.

Great comparison! I like the Invader quite a bit, even though I didn't expect to! I love the format, it really makes the differences and combinations clear and easy to discern. You guys do great work, keep it up! As a suggestion for another trial or comparison video, see if you can get your hands on a Fane F70. I have been using in singles and pairs with Marshall type amps as well as my Mesa Triple Crown and I think they are a great alternative and complement to the classics shown here. Having used dozens of Celestions, that Fane F70 might be my surprise favorite speaker.

Great comparison, really liked that format. The WGS sounded pretty similar to the V30 in my earphones, but the V30 had more mids. The WGS sounded pretty neat though!

As it's understood these are all 16ohm speakers, possibly show the sensitivity rating instead? Easy enough for me to look them up, but it would really be handy to have it all right there?? Keep up this wonderful work!😊 Celestion should have done this years ago!!! Hey might try swapping a Vox/Wharfedale out for the Mystery speaker??? (like the G12T-75 often gets a bad rap) I tried lots of speaker combinations out in my AC-30cc and a Wharfedale and a G12M-20 heritage, have been in it for years now.. the left over Wharfedale has been in my DRRI ever since, replacing the Jensen C12K.. it's a better speaker then it gets credit for!!!

I just filled out a vertical 2x12 with two invaders. These might be my favorites at this point. They handle my orange custom 50 better than any of the many Celestions I have tried. I put a veteran 30 into a open back pine cabinet with an avatar alnico 50 and that was a huge improvement over the wgs et65 that was in there. Not sure why the alnico style doesn’t get more love with a vintage/veteran 30 set up. I was under the impression that the vintage 30 was tailored to sound like a blue but ceramic.

That Invader 50 sounds pretty incredible on its own. I’d like to hear it in an oversized 4x12.

65 Creamback comes across as one of Celestions best offerings at the moment. I'm always looking for something a little more even and fat than a Greenback G12M 25W 16 Ohm. FWIW That Centura vintage did really well as well, nice midrange, could be a nice allrounder ;-)

What a great speaker! Wonder how it compares to the lower wattage Green Beret. I liked the mixes with brighter speakers. The Alnico Blue and Cream, the Century Vintage, G12H30 and the V30 probably too, weren't it clipping.

The invader sounds great on its own, similar to a v30 imho.

Three of the best combinations: Invader + G12 V-Type: 0:57 Invader + G12H Heritage (75 Hz): 1:25 Invader + G12H Anniversary: 1:54

That Invader sounds nice and balanced. I bet you guys would like the WGS retro 30, it has a presence bump a bit more than the Invader and the Reaper 30 watt does too but not as much as the Retro 30 👍

It seemed to sound best with the brighter speakers. Especially the various G12H-30s, but also the V, mystery machine, G12T-75, and the various Neos. Interestingly, the speakers which I would have thought would compliment the Invader's big mids the best, the G12-65 and Classic Lead 80, didn't sound too great with it.

Curious what this would do in place of the lame Sheffield speaker in my combo 6505. Might give it a try

The Invader mixes well. Thought the best mixes were with the Greenbacks and similar speakers, I'm assuming the Invader is meant to be a version of that type of speaker anyway. Is the mystery speaker the new Celestion Hempback speaker?

Well, what I learned today is that the Invader sounds NOTHING like the Greenback.

Interestingly I thought it sounded more like a blue than a g12m, I have the green beret and have never compared it, its less bright and more mid foucsed then my reaper but it seems like the WGS are brighter than celestions with less aggressive filtering of the top and bottom end.

Great video -- I am curious how you decided to call the Invader your so-called "reference" in this shootout rather than one of the Celestions that might be considered "canonical" such as the Vintage 30?

I'm after two pairs (sets) of speakers for my Laney lx412a which is 8ohms 200w (L1238L) with four 50w each 12 inch speakers, I basically want two of one tone on top and two on the bottom with a different tone which will keep the current 200w power of my cab and be able to just swap out with no rewiring, I'm putting two integral mics into the cab (one top one bottom) and recording together, what speakers would be capable of this with rock and metal in mind. Possibly a light and dark running side by side. I'm not fussed on the sound of the current speaker tone in my cab and feel their lacking something, but still need the power and ohm outage and hopefully a speaker change out with be better than a total new purchase of a cabinet, any advice would be grateful

The Redback sounds like it only has lows and nothing else, and good god it had downright insane and deep lows. I wonder why would anyone need such a speaker in a guitar cab, unless all they want to do is chug.

The CREAM went well w/ the INVADER like Spaghetti goes well with Meatballs. Greenback was loud and harsh, many folks love that, not I. PEACE.

Decent speaker, just can't put my finger on what irritates my ears.

WGS is too fizzy and scooped,no mid punch, ok speaker but the Celestions overall kill it imo
