Episode 88
Attic Raiders Retro Reviews unboxes Wargames Atlantic's Death Field Harvesters, which just launched this week (at least here in the UK!).
A great alien bug species that would look at home fighting a squad of Mongoose's Starship Troopers, ripping up Warhammer's Cadian Shock Troops alongside Tyranid Genestealers or terrorizing a Stargrave crew, Harvesters represent the newest xeno threat on the battlefield.

So you actually get 24 limbs per frame for four bodies, which means about thirty seconds with a dremel drilling some new medial-limb sockets and you can have proper six-limbed bugs with better stability and more pose variety. And if you really hate ranged weapons you could stick both on one model so you've still got 75% of the lot as what you want - or you could do some "maimed" figs that have lost a limb or two, with just a stump left. Good to know. The four legs thing doesn't work very well aesthetically.

Nice thing about these is, you don't actually need bases. They stand well on their own.

I picked up this kit for Stargrave Quarantine 37. Cannot wait to get a chance to assemble them.

Just found your channel. Very clear unboxing and building. Can't wait to get my own. Think I'm going to put the weapon either on the back or the belly of these beasts. They're aliens, so why not ?

I like them. They look suitably alien. I'll find some rocks or something to have them clinging on too so I can glue them to bases...

That is crazy value! 20 gaunt nid proxies and 10 ripper proxies for £25?!

It wasnʼt hard to give this video the olʼ “👍” - but I confess what I most liked was the off‐format foray into brand‐spankinʼ‐new product (preordered, yet)! Keep keepinʼ us guessinʼ… 😀 (But keep bringing us the retro attic arcana, too!)

I must confess, I've been playing a lot of Stargrave and painting sci-fi miniatures for it recently - it's a fantastic game if you're into wargaming. Don't worry though, there will be lots more vintage coming up - right now I'm in the middle of filming a review for a 90's game that you'll really "dig".

The eggs and little bugs remind me of the space herpes from the movie Ice Pirates.

They are ugly mofos, as Dutch would say! I picked up a sprue. At first I thought the eggs were alternative heads, and I plan to use an unhatched one to create a fungal zombie type monster (put it on a human torso). The bioweapons are something out of Cronenberg. Love it.

So while the rest of the WGA minis would work with 25mm to 28mm bases, I'm guessing the Harvesters will be needing almost 50mm to be consistent for the squad, whilst the small bugs will get away with being on 32mm bases to make up for them crawling so low - it's a shame these lack bases for the kits, but maybe that helps save on production costs.

Yes, unfortunately if you're basing them, you're going to need rather BIG bases.

After seeing these I might have to order some and use them with my Cannon Fodder minis.Maybe mix up some of the parts and make mutated soldiers.

Для Сары Керриган надо 8 конечностей жуков - без грин-стаффа не обойтись.

I like them but there are some weird design decisions. The claw tips are way too small to properly bond to a base. The leg footprint is very large, but the bodies themselves aren't that big. Imo the back legs should have had more pronounced feet and the angles should have been set up better to make standing or crawling look more natural.
@AtticRaidersRetroReviews
@AtticRaidersRetroReviews Год назад
Totally agree with you on the leg ends - if you're using a base, attachment is going to be problematic. According to the "lore", Harvesters are supposed to be able to run on two legs as well as crawl on all four, but in my opinion, being on two legs just looks weird with this design, and very, very unstable on a base with the pointy tips.
@nicofolkersma2535
@nicofolkersma2535 Год назад
Maybe cut a little part of the claw that's on the ground, or put some putty around them. They're sharp claws, so it stands to reason they would sink a little into the ground.
@richmcgee434
@richmcgee434 Год назад
They're clearly designed to be free-standing. Why would you insist on sticking them to a base? If it's some asinine rules issue (looking at you, 40K) just measure the range from the body and head and ignore the limbs. I can certainly tell who never played Starship Troopers back when Mongoose was briefly making it. Big sprawling bug kits don't go one bases, period..
@piotrwisniewski70
@piotrwisniewski70 3 месяца назад
@richmcgee434 well, on box art they are shown to stand on bases, but making them free standing sounds reasonable

If someone were to go the base route got the big bugs what size would be best? The putty idea and piercing the ground idea seemed durable said above.
@AtticRaidersRetroReviews
@AtticRaidersRetroReviews Год назад
It depends on how you've built them - if I was to base the ones in this video, 2 of them would fit on 30mm diameter bases, but the other 2 would need 40mm diameter bases.

У жуков должно быть 6 ног, у пауков - 8. Так что это какие-то неправильные жуки с 4 ногами.

To be honest in my personal opinion this is one of their kits that was rather unnecessary and the resources dedicated to it's could have been directed in to creating something different.
