The thing I like most about your videos is that when I finish watching them I feel like I could do that. Certainly not up to the same standard as your work, but at least to a standard where I wouldn’t be embarassed to have someone see them on the table. Looking forward to more French tutorials.
I would happily watch every video of you doing each type of unit in the range! You've really helped me battle through the overwhelming research required to get a recipie for these minis I'm happy with
Thank you, that’s really kind 😊 I’ll definitely be doing a few more, not sure I’ll get through all 30 odd different types of model, but I’ll try to cover enough so things are transferrable.
Using contrast black over that bright silver gives a lovely blued steel color. Love your work, I paint in the same style with these Contrasts. Working on ACW right now. 👍
Great video be nice to see Cuirassiers and / or Lancers. I'm hoping you'll have the time and inclination to do all of the cavalry units as the videos are extremely useful for painting generally but particularly those planning to go the Contrasts route. Brigade Commanders / Officers for both sides would be a great one too. I'm still undecided as to whether to prime black and use a zenithal highlight or prime with Grey Seer and then maybe a very dilute Nuln Oil wash, maybe 2:1 medium to Nuln Oil. Mixing water with GW washes doesn't work well I find, they often dry cloudy.
Thank you Ade. I’m definitely planning on doing some cavalry (I’m playing around with British Heavy Dragoons now and was planing French cavalry after). I don’t know if time will allow me to do them all sadly. I think I worked out if I did a video for everything it’s around 30 videos 😳, but I’ll definitely do a couple of types from each side, but some will can just have the process copied with a few colour changes. I’ve not tried the grey and wash way of doing it, I’d be interested in how that works out.
Looks great! I love using contrast for black lining. That’s probably the biggest use I’ve had for contrast. Using different dark colors to separate different fabrics, equip, etc. definitely looking forward to see how you paint a horse at this scale. Thanks again!
@@MiniatureRealms unrelated question to contrast, have you ever done a video or discussed what type of airbrush you use? My plan is to invest in one later this year so I’m researching the options now. Pretty overwhelming with how much is out there
Yeah it’s a huge topic, and one a may do a video on one day, but it will be a way off. I use a relatively cheap compressor with a tank (the tank is important as it means it’s not running 100% of the time), I recommend the cheaper starter sets you get with these, the kind that includes a cheap airbrush, tools, cleaner pot etc. I would normally recommend a different airbrush than the one that comes with those to start, as a really poor airbrush can lead to a skewed experience. Saying that you don’t have to spend the Earth, an Iawata Neo is a great starter, Harder & Steinbeck Ultra is even better. The most important thing is that you make sure that you have a needle that’s somewhere in the region of 0.3 to 0.4, this is the size you need for most work, a smaller nozzle is for crazy detail work that 99% of miniature painters never use, and you certainly won’t as a beginner. I started with a Harder & Steinbeck Ultra 2 in 1 (me as it has two needle/nozzle sizes, you can ignore the smaller). I now use a Harder & Steenbeck Infinity CR plus 2 in 1. Sorry I can’t provide links as RU-vid would just delete the comment.
@@MiniatureRealms thanks for this detailed info. I wanted to invest in a good airbrush because I don’t want to be jaded by a bad experience with a cheaper one. I only plan to use it for priming, zenithal highlights, and base coating. I was looking at the badger patriot, but I’ll definitely research the harder steenbach you mentioned. Thanks again for all your help. I really appreciate it
Really looking forward to trying them out, will be a while though, seems like general release isn’t for a month yet, and 6 weeks of I wait for the larger set.
Nicely done. I’m going to base the British and French skirmishers 2 to a Rendera 30 by 20mm base for two reasons: 1. They act as a marker to show that a unit is in mixed formation with its skirmish screen out, and 2. I can still rank them up if I need to, representing a Light Battalion in line. As to what’s next; everything I suppose😉
Great video. Enjoyed watching this. They look really awesome. Will you be doing any more vlogs? Very interested in where your project is going. many thanks 🦕🦕🦕🌶🌶🌶
Yet another fantastic video Stuart. On the zeneth highlight over the black is there a particular white you put through the airbrush? I have Vallejo Model Air white will that do the job?
Looking good your certainly saving me a lot of decisions on color choices, had a spot of luck was given the French heavy cavalry sprue so will have ago with them next (more *€#¥₩ horse's)
Another excellent tutorial that makes it all seem so simple. definitely something to aspire to. Do you thin any of your contrast paints when you use them, or are they all straight from the pot?
Thank you David 😊 I thin some, I treat them much like any normal paint, and thin depending on the job I’m using it for, and how the viscosity and strength of the pigment needs to be adjusted for that job.
Is it possible you could do some in red to form a british line battalions light infantry in skirmish? I thought since you get alot with the French some could be repurposed
I mean you could, but the uniform is completely different, painting them red would hide that from 2ft away on the table though. I’ll probably try and get hold of some extra skirmishing rifles to do this with.
@@MiniatureRealms thanks I appreciate your input which is why I asked yeah I'd be happy to do that I might need like two boxes of highlanders to get enough
At Waterloo much of the skirmishing was done be allied troops. On the allied left flank the Dutch 27th Jaeger regiment was completely deployed as skirmishes and the Nassau troops were deployed in detachments to defend the area of Papelotte. These units can be painted as skirmishers using the French: the 27th Jaegers and the Nassau-Usingen regiment in green, and Orange Nassau in blue. Later in the battle the Prussians fired on them thinking they were French.
I've been doing 15mm napoleon figures for 32 years black powder figures are great but I get heartburn when all the French are in great coats and shake covers stop being biased
Yes this is true I did buy 2 bags of French in great coats from old glory 102 to 103 in a bag for$20 I used them for lannes 2corp 1809 against Austria they were all 4th battalion from all the French reg not great troops age 17to20 with some vets added in so they to show lower quality troops 1809 French is mostly want I have the guard 3 4 reserve cav and wurttenburg bavarie Saxony troops all based on empire rules and Austria's 1 3 6 corps 1 2 reserve corps
