The WA-84’s blow my mind. They cancel out a lot of the messy harmonic bleed and unwanted (for me) character of the physical piano and give a nice detailed warmth without too much hammer. I love the different colors that each pair of mics offer, especially for the price point. You can really see how each pair can give you want you need depending on what the song calls for. Thanks for posting this!

Pezzo Lane I used the various mics straight into the wa412 with zero eq or compression. That way you get a really pure comparison of just what the differences in the mics are. Thanks for watching 👊🏼👊🏼

Warm Audio, could you please tell something about the recording setup you used here. Has there been applied post processing like compression or EQ, what kind of preamp was used?

A real cool piano technique is to point a WA-87 towards the longest part of the piano where lower register is. Not pointing at.the string but point at the frame of the piano. At Engine Room Audio in New York we used to use that and it would absolutely catch that nice low end. Though we used a U-87

So place the mic at the end of the piano and point at frame? Or place mic in middle of piano and point at end of frame?

Would like to have heard mics positioned at the bridge and not over the strings and hammers. Sounds like a very ‘pop’ sounding piano, WA87’s sounded better imo tho. Nice playing!

May I please know which is the best microphone are the best for classical piano recording? Prefer warmer kind of sound .. and can we use the mic plug directly into a camcorder or we need a pre amp ? Your recording is amazing btw 😊

Professional condenser microphones normally require 48V phantom power, which your camcorder is unlikely to produce unless it's a very high end model. As such, you always need a high-quality preamp for the best results. Our WA-14 or WA-87 R2 microphones in a stereo pair would work brilliantly on piano, absolutely. Hope that helps!

Joe, I have one question for you re: the mics on the piano.....Did you use them in Omni or cardioid pattern when you record the piano? I want to try to come close to how good you made the piano sound!
