That's one heck of a pad!! I used the exped synmat 7 for a few years and it was great! I still prefer the xtherm for winter though. I just like the horizontal baffles better. Great review! It's nice to see your ground set up. Good to have options.

I like this one. A bit heavier than my comfortable S2S Comfort Plus, but warmer. Exped LW also fits an Amok. Good choice if vertical baffles work for you. Schnozzle is great too. Thanks for the vid.

I just spent 350 USD on a Thermarest X-Therm and it is EASILY the worst piece of kit I have ever owed. It's impossible not to slide off it every few mins, and the noise is unbearable!

Have you tried this pad in any of your hammocks in place of, or in addition to, an underquilt? Or is the long wide size too much for your hammocks?
@SpiguyverBackpacking1
@SpiguyverBackpacking1 5 лет назад
No, I'm not a fan of the pad in the hammock, and I don't find that inflatable pad works well at all in a hammock. But to answer your question, no I have not tried it in my hammock.

As a side sleeper, ive been looking for a replacement pad. I used a sea to summit insulated on my elk hunt last year in my floorless shelter on the snow. Ran into two problems....first, pad slide all over the place and I kept ending up off the pad. Second....my hips and legs were so sore I didnt get much sleep, and kept tossing and turning all night for 4 days. Miserable after the second nights fiasco. Insulation wise, the sea to summit was ok, but my comfort was just NOT there. Im seriously considering this pad. I just wish they offered a Medium wide in addition to the long wide. That would shave off a few more ounces. A few have recommended the Klyment, but the R value to weight ratio on this pad has me swaying this way I think. thanks
@SpiguyverBackpacking1
@SpiguyverBackpacking1 4 года назад
I agree with you on the medium wide offering, if that was available, I would have it! I had a Klyment, hated it, just not nearly what it should be. The R values are optimistic at best. This is not the lightest pad, but for me comfort trumps weight when it comes to sleep! Thanks!

Just an unrelated question, the jacket you were wearing in the beginning is that a ghost whispered? If so how warm is it? you looked like you were wearing it over other clothes, do you have it a size bigger to accommodate that?
@SpiguyverBackpacking1
@SpiguyverBackpacking1 5 лет назад
Willem Knopper It is the Ghost Whisperer. I was wearing over a sweatshirt, I have a large which works with clothes under it. However even without anything under it, I can’t wear the medium, it’s too tight in the chest and arms for me.

Little off the subject but you mentioned you are using a quilt instead of a bag. Can I ask what quilt you are using? I am in the market for a good cold weather quilt in the 0 to 10 degree range. Thx!
@SpiguyverBackpacking1
@SpiguyverBackpacking1 4 года назад
I have several quilt setups, and it depends on the temp range. My most versatile quilt is the UGQ Bandit in 20 degrees. You can vent it really easily if it's a little warmer, and you can pull it nice and close if you are cooler!

How is the durability 1 year later? I bought the UL version from Moosejaw on sale. I prefer the weight and size of the UL, but the 75d on the XP is going to be way more durable. I returned the Nemo Tensor because it's 20d top fabrics felt super fragile.

Any ideas on the down fill vs the synthetic fiber fill? Both the Downmat xp 9 and Synmat xp 9 have R-Values of 8 (and I’m seeing the MegaMat has R-Value of 9.5). I’m trying to compare warmth and comfort as I have a shoulder and hip injuries. Less concerned about weight as will be for car accessed tent camping. Any guidance is appreciated.
@SpiguyverBackpacking1
@SpiguyverBackpacking1 4 года назад
The down should be lighter and more compressible for a given temperature range. The thickness of this pad is what I like, I am a flip flopping side, back and stomach sleeper and this pad allows all of that very comfortably.
@evljazzhands4990
@evljazzhands4990 4 года назад
Thank you for the guidance. Ok, I’m going to ask one more question and you totally don’t have to answer ... may I ask your weight? My hips and shoulder hitting the ground is my biggest concern as I am also toss and turn. Thank you very much! This was the most useful video and info I have found yet.
