She died, but she can't pass into the afterlife because she's conflicted. She can't leave because of her love for the man, but seeing him and not being able to have him torments her. Notice that she's always elevated. She never touches the ground. Also, the children don't notice that she's there.
If you watch the video closely, you'll see that the one that is gone is her. He's wearing the black like as if he just came from a funeral, and she is wearing angelic clothes. She never once touched the ground.
Seen them years ago when they played small crowds at bars.. They played at Edmonton Alberta Canada at bar on Jasper Ave Can't remember the name of the bar or nightclub.. Her voice is amazing this does it no credit.. You could hear a pin drop in that place.. The whole band was good.. That's how I remember what Canada was like. A great time to live roughly 20 years ago. Whyte Ave was the place to party, see bands, meet people.. The music.. All the bands you have seen that made it over the years, now years later there the best of times.
As beautifully overwhelming as the sound of Amy Lee's voice on this track you must realize that NO OTHER BAND could have done this for her. Just like Deborah Harry's voice on "Heart of Glass" w/ Blonde and Helen Folasade Adu voice on "No Ordinary Love" w/ her band. Their voices are exquisite, BUT the band behind the voice is necessary for those songs to be a masterpiece!
Her voice is haunting. This song is so relatable to many for many different reasons. Loss of a loved one by death or just the death of a relationship. When she sings, "But though you're still with me, I've been alone all the long" implies a relationship where one person is still holding on while the other is half way out the door.
The song was inspired by the death of ex-bandmate Ben Moody's grandfather, but it speaks to that feeling of loss you feel when you lose someone close but you can't let them go. I just saw a clip where Amy Lee said she doesn't like the original version the record company released because she was only 19 at the time and she didn't like the way she sounded in the recording, and the piano was "tired" sounding. To me, that's what makes this version so impactful. It's raw and emotional. It still can give me goosebumps and bring me to tears.
I just read an article in rolling stones--supposedly amy started the song in the late 90s about a friendship--ben moody' helped her finish it---I don't know when his grandad passed by i know amy lee's younger sister passed at the age of three when amy was still young --So, to me that's what makes more sense--especially the 'my immortal" and wiping the tears and fears away---regardless, I think it's a loss of life that will never leave someone ( won't go away)
She always has such hauntingly beautiful songs ♥️♥️♥️ this is the alleged story of the meaning behind it. “”The song's words were originally written by Moody from fiction and the music written by Lee on piano when they were 15, after which Lee added the bridge. The lyrics of the song refer to a spirit that haunts the memory of a grieving loved one, according to MTV. Lee considered it Moody's song as he wrote the lyrics.””
Great job with your reaction to the song My immortal from the band Evanescence . You shouldn't have to apologize for getting emotional for hearing this song and for seeing this video Because it shows your human and not a robot.
For the "record": "The lyrics of the song refer to a spirit that haunts the memory of a grieving loved one. Similar to several other songs written by [Ben] Moody, the lyrics of the song are based on a short story he had previously written. According to Lee, it was "Ben [Moody]'s song." Moody said that the song talks about "a spirit staying with you after its death and haunting you until you actually wish that the spirit were gone because it won't leave you alone." He also stated in the booklet of Fallen that he dedicated the song to his grandfather, Bill Holcomb. In "My Immortal", Lee expresses her feelings through the line, "Though you're still with me / I've been alone all along.A writer for IGN said that "'My Immortal' is a song of pain and despair caused by the loss of a family member or very close friend and how it drove her [Lee] to the edge of insanity." I got into this band when the movie Daredevil came came out in 2002. The soundtrack had this song and Bring Me To Life. The record company wanted a rapper for the song Amy didn’t want that and she didn’t like the version. She made a version of the song that she wanted off Synthesis album. She had to agree because she wanted to be on the studio album. I had a chance to see them live in 2003 but I couldn’t go. I still have not seen them live to this day. A really good song with her and Seether song called broken. Amy dated the lead singer of the band Seether. She broke up with him and she made a song about him called Call me When You’re Sober
you definitely need to watch more of Evanescence. Amy Lee's voice is on another level and the emotion she manages to put into every single word is beyond imagining. This one makes me cry every time
Another song from Evanescence to check out is Hello, Amy wrote the song it's about her losing her sister at a very young age. I have never heard anyone convey so much pain and emotions in a song. Amy Lee is an amazing singer.
Please react to more Evanescence: -Lithium (mv) -Lost In Paradise (lyric video) -Wasted On you (mv) -Going Under (mv) -Far From Heaven (Stephen Colbert live)
One of the most heart breaking lines is " though your still with me I've been alone all along " when you find out your partner has already moved on it destroys you at the realization they never loved you from the beginning they just used you as a stepping stone
From the video, it looks like SHE is the ghost of a woman who passed away (notice that her feet never touch the ground, and she's got a bunch of bandages on her hands, etc), and her love is the one who is remembering her...
Nice reaction! Have you heard the symphonic metal band called Crystal gates? They are from my country, Uruguay, but the guitarrist and leader nowadays lives in Finlandia. They are a small band, but they are extremelly talented
Please do check out Corvyx's version of this! it will blow your mind. He sings in the original key. Just do a search on his name, he does EPIC covers. He's also covered My Heart Will Go On!!!
There were a few influences for this song. The other being the death of her sister. The verses are her attempt to push away God because she lost her faith because of her sisters death. But God won’t go away and the chorus is God responding saying I’m still with you no matter if you hate me.
I was just listening to this song went upstairs and took a 40 minute nap and came downstairs and found my mom had died on her recliner chair. Worst day of my life.
Hi Sarah, I know you’ve enjoyed Marty Robbin’s in the past and I’ve loved your reactions :) so I was hoping you would react to Marty Robbin’s “they’re hanging me tonight” another amazing song by him!
