If you are a thyroid patient taking metformin you should be aware of the impact that this prescription medication can have on your thyroid lab tests!
Metformin can cause your TSH level to drop without impacting thyroid function which makes it look like you are taking more thyroid medication than you need. It can also mask hypothyroidism because it may make your TSH look artificially normal when that isn't the case.
Metformin is often used to treat insulin resistance and diabetes and is one of the most commonly prescribed medications for this problem. If you are a thyroid patient taking this medication be aware of this impact and make sure to account for it prior to making changes to your thyroid medication dose!
